It is little bit early to say that in my opinion. If you know technical analysis, it is still in correction phase which is very normal in any market where there are sharp ups and downs. So it is still in bullish trend channel.
Why'd you say that 2018 is bitcoin's downfall? Because it dropped in price? Bitcoin's price has been hugely fluctuating in price since forever; and price doesn't determine the success of bitcoin. Lightning network isn't even being currently used besides for testing, so I'd say bitcoin is just getting started.

January is about to end but there are still no good progress happening in bitcoin's price, this is not what I've expected. I thought that btc will recover by the middle part of this month but I was wrong.
Though it indicates a bad sign for btc, I still do believe that it will rise again soon. We're just in the first month of this year, very early to predict whether this year was btc's downfall.

Bitcoin made so much hype last year. And bitcoin became unstable because of it. This year bitcoin's correction may take a while to settle down before another hype emerge. This is a great opportunity to acquire more bitcoins before it goes wild again.

Do you know that in 2014, few months after the pump to $1300, Bitcoin had a brief crash to $100? Yeah that was a crash of over than 90%. The correction we had now is not even close to that figure. So to answer your question: NO. 2018 won't be the biggest downfall of Bitcoin. Worst case scenario, Bitcoin maintained at this price level year long. Best case scenario, Bitcoin goes to $1M
