Y can earn 1 million dollars with investing in the crypto currency. But you have to choose good coins with a very good potential. In addition, you need to know exactly when to go from one coin and invest in another.
If one were to buy and hold solid avaerge coins (not a coin that kicks out and gets 10000% gain), but rather a nice steady gain like eth, Ltc etc (top 20) and starts with 10k, is it possible to reach a million without trading and buying/selling at highs and lows? If so, how long would you predict it would take? Or are most coins not going to last long term, so every 6 months would I have to rebalance with newer coins?

Yes very possible, and we know someone that has been lucky enough. he got more than a million coins and when the price hits more than a dollar, he becomes millionaire. I think it's possible, but it will take much time for experience and great amount of money for investment.
Yes it's possible but it will be hard. A lot of ico scams looming around you might lose money before hitting it big. Keep on trying and don't get too emotional over your investments.

Million dollar is definately possible for those hardworking and lucky persons. But understand the simple logic if everybody in the crypto wants to be a millionaire then where will that amount of money comes.

If you dedicate yours work and proper time to them and your luck is must your side and you buy a bitcoin and hold it in one year you became a rich person.
I think that bitcoin has little chance of a good investment tool to get so much income. Earlier, when it was cheaper and less famous, it was possible. Now if you choose some cheap altcoin, you will have more chance to become a millionaire with long-term storage
It can be a possible to hold the coin for more than 1 year , but no one knows what will happen in the future, for that I always rely on graphics and intuition in making decisions.
With the mentioned coins, it is very much possible to be able to reach a million dollar thru long term investment. We can necer say as to how many months or even years it would take for such investment to reach its target value but you can try checking on your investment every 6 months and while you are st it, try to observe the trend of the coin you invested in.
