Is all the bad news actually good for us?
Does it actually get people looking into bitcoin?

Those who are not interested in bitcoin don't actually hear those "bad" news. They do not actively seek news on bitcoin what so ever. It is only us bitcoin users who remember chains of "bad" news and generate impressions of a failing bitcoin environment.

I believe more frequently people hear the word "bitcoin" the better. The context doesn't matter much. The news get forgotten, the "bitcoin" keyword sticks.

Many in marketing circles will say that there's no such thing as negative press.

However, if your company'[s CEO gets caught diddling little boys... yeah, there is such a thing as bad press.

This is not Bitcoin's case, everyone loves to back an underdog, look at the rise of islam; killed by negative press.

Volumes go up but Bitcoin's proven to be an impulse buyer's market, meaning, buyers always want the best price... not the 15 minutes ago price.

This means, in normal times, it won't get much attention; last US Gov't shutdown is where it got its big break; panic buyers.

If there is no impulse to buy, the price will always tick sideways or down; mining farms needs to sell... which is an impulse sell.

Right now it's all we're seeing but thing about it though... if CocaCola gave 1 free coke if you buy 1 12pack with Bitcoin?

People would trample over a dozen newborn babies to get on that deal!

The moral is, give deals to die for to entice people into buying Bitcoin more regularly.

I figure the "bad news" is really just a shakeout of the bad actors and the exchanges that don't bother to get their security buttoned down. Once that's finished, we can just hunker down and start making cryptocurrencies the way to handle any kind of business in the digital world.

No, If everything on BitCoin is bad news then why would average joe wanna invest in BitCoin?

Yes, not every piece of news should be ideally bad, but when you're first starting out, you pretty much just want to get your name out there.

Remember the Internet was the same way.  Only the computer literate with money, privilege, and know how had access to it back in the day:

There was the stereotypical nerd in his Mom's basement that was a hacker and had the latest and greatest equipment to be able to prowl BBS message boards and download German porn before anyone else.  And for awhile it was true, but now the narrative has changed for the common internet user.

This is how it is in year 6 of Bitcoin.  Not everyone is using, gets it, or has access to it, but there's building blocks and infrastructure and developing and investing that's underway.  Just to get the word out there is the hard part now, and if that means some bad news, then that's what we'll have to take for now.

I don't know if all bad news is good for Bitcoin or the Bitcoin community, but anything to bring attention or put a spotlight, in my opinion, is worth reporting about.

Better to be talked about behind your back, then not at all, is how I approach life.  If you're barely noticed, it means your inconsequential, it means you have no purpose, no meaning.  Silence = Death.

I actually first heard about Bitcoin a few years ago, when Silk Road 1 first came about, and that all products and services were transacted anonymously using this new currency called Bitcoin using Tor browsers.  At first I thought, wow, now there's digital money and you can buy drugs with it anonymously.  Then I heard Bitcoin used in other contexts, used for buying and selling legitimate goods and services, and started hearing about it traded on real exchanges like an asset or like gold and silver

So although bad news can be bad, it can be good also, just to get it on people's minds.  Since it's still early days, any exposure, positive or negative, will have to do.

Yes, more people get aware of BTC.

BUt of course too many bad news aren't good. At least for those who lost money, for example
It will scare the ppl away from it.

Now with the money presses rolling in the EU and people's saving money returning negative, this might be THE time to push bitcoin to the masses by handout actions, wealthy btc holders giving out some, but that will never happen Sad

if the Greek EU exit speculation isn't helping bitcoin the way the Cyprus situation did way back, that shows bitcoin has been badly tarnished.

It's not seen as a safe refuge the way it was back when Cyprus happened. People will go into gold and swiss franc, not bitcoin.

Bitcoin price seems to be random. Big news like retail stores accepting BTC in 2014 didn't stop the down trend but rather fueled it. On the other hand big exchange hacks in 2015 didn't manage to stop the recent climb.

I think it is a little bit and it will when the fiat major currencies will fail once again.

Good for awareness, when prices start to surge people will get interested buying thinking it makes them rich.

Between some limits, any kind of news is good: it increases awareness.
But I think that we are (slowly?) get out of those limits and people will be afraid to use cryptocurrency because of so many news about hacks, scams and fraud.

There is too much bad publicity around bitcoin for sure and that is very bad for currency. Bitcoin is not celebrity where you cant have bad publicity, Bitcoin is sort of money and if ppl read about scams and hacks every day it sure make them very carefull about.

Does it actually get people looking into bitcoin?

People will read about bitcoin but they won't invest or pretty much do anything that would help bitcoin.
