What's with all the drama?

AFAIK the Thailand government hasn't done anything with Bitcoin, nor do they have any plans as to how they would attempt to ban it.  The only thing we know is that the Bank of Thailand supposedly blocked a Thai BTC exchange from operating correctly, and so was closed down.  Unless that bank is also their ministry of finance, then Bitcoin is not officially banned in Thailand; this is the same behavior we're seeing in America, where banks are getting uppity about people and services who operate in and around Bitcoin.

That bank is the Bank of Thailand, the nation's central bank.  That puts it in roughly the same position as the Federal Reserve in the United States.  If they really have taken a position that Bitcoin is illegal, that could be highly problematic.  It would strike me as highly unusual, though, for a bank to make a definitive, final policy statement about the legality of something without promulgating regulations of some kind actually saying so officially.

On the other hand I have people calling me a "douchbag", "mental retarded", that I "bought a wife", that I'm supposedly selling fake goods, posting names of my family members, posting addresses, and telephone numbers, should I wait for them to start posting my vacation pictures, or snaps of my kids at school, maybe my credit history?

Fair enough.  I zapped my OP to this thread and just replaced it with a statement there should be a thread about this but the previous one is locked, so I created one.  To say the least, my OP did not start a productive discussion.

At least I do not make false claims and then say I can't give the proof cuz people might kill me  Roll Eyes

So what is your reason for no proof with this false claim?

They told you to stop cuz they suspected your operation might have been supporting tax avoidance.

I told you already the link is in your locked thread.

Please provide the link from the locked thread then (or which post # of the locked thread you posted these quotes/links)?

If you have no link or quote, then what are you basing your calling me a liar?  Also where you getting this info about tax avoidance that you specifically mentioned?

There is no way I can prove they never said that BTC was illegal. There is no way to prove a negative.

Keep trying dude.

BTW BTC in Thailand, still not illegal!

You also said:

I have asked you to provide a quote/link to back up these claims.

Ask me to quote him in english when you know he is thai... facedesk

Also he askex you to stop not cuz you were avoiding taxes but that you might be helping others.

Ok Thai quote and link will do fine.  And if you think Google translates it incorrectly then provide your own translation.

All of your insults and tangents do not matter man. Links are in the locked thread.

BTC is not illegal in Thailand and you have absolutely no evidence at all to support your claim. (other than the video tapes that if you send us they will kill you for  Roll Eyes )

So you are not able to provide a quote/link to backup what you are claiming then (about Governor Prasarn's statements)?

Your claim was that btc was illegal in thailand. That is bull shit. Bank said they thought it was legit did not now how to regulate it. Asked for time. They told you to stop cuz they suspected your operation might have been supporting tax avoidance. Since you thought you needed their paperwork they said ok stop while they look into it. They did not tell the other btc operations to quit.

Please provide quotes (in English) and link for this.  As the statement I saw from Governor Prasarn didn't mention anything about tax avoidance (how can a company opened a few months ago be avoiding taxes, it's literal impossible seeing as tax returns would not yet have been filed)

Also what do you mean by "thought it was legit", do you mean "legal" if so also please provide quote to where he said this.  All accounts of his comments that i've read have not said this.

I claimed that it was advised to be illegal for an extensive list of activities, unless all you read is headlines?  In which case you must think "God is Dead"?

Yes i forced you to remove your post. Dont be silly.

Can you honestly tell me you would quote high ranking government officials saying controversial statements, if I was standing here shouting "I'm going to report you directly to this individual and tell them your harming their reputation" and others posting your name/address etc...

It's just not worth the risk.

This is nonsense.  The statements from the bank corroborated my facts, about the applications, about the meeting, about the advice to stop operations.  They stopped short of corroborated whether BTC actives (buying/selling) were illegal in general, but certainly did not refute (or "tell the media this was full of shit").

Plus his statements come 2 days later, and are politically calculated to soften the issue and make it go away.  (ie "we're looking into it" = "Pending forever", note that while it is "pending" no legitimate business is advised to operate = defacto ban)

Sure we can continue the flame war here, but the general name calling, personal detail posting and off topic cultural/religious posts were no longer related to the issue at all.

Please flame away; suggested this moved to somewhere other than Service Discussion

The personal attacks on you are a mess. So you can not argue, in fact. Anybody need a minimum of respect.

I didn't agree with those attacks until he locked the thread.  That was seriously sketchy and makes me doubt his other comments.  I was polite and respectful up until that point and willing to accept that he was acting in good faith.

The issue he started a discussion about is one that needs a thread.  Locking it was a highly questionable action and difficult to square with good faith.

In fact i never posted any personal attacks.  I made some postings drawing attention to the obvious motifs of certain members and also showing the inconsistencies in their claims.

I had to delete certain posts about my evidence, as Chang Noi made it clear he was going to stir up any trouble possible, for example if I posted a specific quote such as "Personal A at BoT said 'xxxxxx' to me" then he was going to report this to them.  It doesn't matter if the quote was true, in Thailand they can still press charges for criminal defamation if so inclined; and I have the burden of proof that I did not state in to cause harm to the persons' reputation.  Obviously I don't want to me involved in that kind of mess; especially as the persons involved at BoT may feel harmed, if named personally.

Since the sketchy douchebag who started a thread on this subject locked it after being questioned about his highly questionable statements, I'm just starting another thread on the same subject.  Nice try, douchebag.

Let's continue that discussion here.

Is Bitcoin illegal in Thailand?  Some say no.

A sketchy douchebag who locked his own thread says yes.

What are the opinions of sane people?  I promise not to lock this thread, since unlike the OP of the other thread, I am NOT a gigantic douchebag.  So feel free to express your opinions here.

This slanguage is disgusting. I'm just German but I can understand it!

Goat has states multiple times that it's just a bank rep who said it's illegal, no official statement from the bank nor the government.

I'm not personally in thailand, but I would trust what Goat has to say here.
