I think it's too early if we say bitcoin is the new era of currency, user bitcoin is no more than 5% of the total population of the Earth, and current transactions already feels slow, if bitcoin used more than 40% of the total population of the Earth.
Yes obviously bitcoin is the new era of currency as it provides everything to a person like financial freedom , wealth etc.

Yes bitcoin is the new era of currency because it is in a form of digital asset or digital coin which cannot be touched but we can hold it through the use of online wallet which can be converted into fiat currency with the help of online exchangers and trading markets.
It also simplifies monetary system and payment system. 
In my point of view, I think Bitcoin will be widely used in the upcoming years and more and more people will be adopting this technology and appreciate its benefits to everyone. 
I do believe also that bitcoin is the new era of currency because aside that it is a fprm of digital asset many investors are also choosing to invest in bitcoin rather than in banks because of the huge profit they can get from it. And also because we are currently engaged in the technology so it is easy to transact in bitcoin rather than in fiats.
But still it is not recommended to invest all your money on bitcoin or other forms of digital currency because of the volatility issues of this stuffs. But still even this technology has its downside for me its better than paper money because of the security it can give, For example bitcoin is a digital asset and it cannot be counterfeited like the paper money that we use and for the past 9 years no one has hacked the bitcoin blockchain.
