In my opinion, bitcoin will not forever lead the crypto currency market. See now, public confidence in bitcoin is declining. This is apparent in the imbalance between supply and demand of bitcoin thus causing very fluctuating bitcoin prices. Technologically too, some altcoin already have technology far in front of bitcoin. This is increasingly becoming an ultimatum for bitcoin if it can not keep up with technological developments so it will be more retarded. It's not only about the popularity. It's about how the people could use cryptocurrencies in real life, for some concrete things and in that aspect bitcoin still has no competition among other altcoins.
