they planning to hybridize the best of Bitcoin into ERC-20 Token.
Its a newly introduced token not being a hard fork.
I don't think that's scam for it has a value even though it become down right now. As I observed the hype many investor just buy and sell it so they got stack of eBTC.. and it grows organically.

I say we will see soon enough, but being listed on Coinmarketcap gives it some credit.
The price stabilised after the pump so it is safe, for now.

To me, a scam is something which is created to earn something while you disadvantage someone else in doing so.
A cryptocurrency, like any currency (including FIAT), has no worth on its own. It's the users who make it valuable. If users "believe" something has value, they can trade it for something else. Currencies are just fabricated and can be used to trade more easily.
So about your question... Is eBTC made to only earn the creators something? Are there enough supporters who believe it already has or will have value?
Every cryptocurrency is a gamble. You can't predict which ones will succeed. It's up to you to decide in which ones you'll invest. :-)

How is it different from any other coin on Ethereum - at least those provide some sort of business plan which may lead to real value? Does it do anything apart from taking the name Bitcoin, adding e before it for ethereum and use a smart contract for management? Any other features it adds which are not in the underlying platform?

Don't fall for this scam it's just a pump and dump coin that people are advertising now and the thing is has "btc" on it's name remember on how many attempts that many created their token and coins that will make bitcoin in the last position of this race.
