Just think, how many altcoins are there, ETH just made some fast buy/sell campaign, but good altcoin can survive in a medium to long term, noy just few months. Let see how ETH will survive in next two years.  Wink
I think it will survive very well and with each passing day Ethereum only gets stronger. And all backed by a fantastic dev team and community who are intelligent enough to see its potential.

I love reading all this btc vs ethereum shit. They both have a purpose and not one of them is perfect. Why do so many people care if other people invest in btc or eth. Its their money, if they lose it they are to blame.

If you dont like a certain coin whatever it may be, dont invest in it.

There is no perfect coin out there, they can all be improved in some way.

Finally my anwer to the ops question

It might be, time will tell all

I think it was roach who wrote a scathing reply breaking down the uselessness of ETH.
In technical terms he tore it to shreds (better than i could have done)
I think he got tired of re-posting the commentary though.. not like anyone cares.

Maybe if he sees this topic he will go round up the summary and re-post it.
I felt it was accurate and very informative and HONEST !

Seems more people create new accounts to bash Ethereum and that it does actually have organic support.

A bunch of r0aches. (multi account along with Spoetnik)

People said the same thing about Bitcoin (and still do).

I'll be laughing when Ethereum passes Bitcoin in value.

Many anti Eth people already thought Ethereum would be dead by now.  Roll Eyes

Ethereum isn't leaving and is here to stay.

You have no fucking right comparing ETH to Bitcoin.
Bash me & roach all you want but that is where i draw the line buddy.
nuh uhh not happening scammer.

Hey wanna steal 15 grand from us here on the forum then spout off more ?
Go read why this douche hole has a neg rating guys.. he was busted red handed .

ETH is not a marketing fraud. I would rather say it is a marketing success.

Out of around 700 odd altcoins, ETH has shown its true colour. Taking the coin price from nothing to $15. So it is a success of marketing certainly.

 Roll Eyes well said !

What's the point in even talking about it? The amount of energy burnt fudding and countering it is amazing. No one trading it is gonna care about a few opinions on here. Current numbers say that enough people like it for now.

Cults, used as a morally neutral term, are very powerful organizational structure to build things.

If one came here in 2011-12...
One was clearly dealing with a Bitcoin Cult...
Where any form of critical analysis was rejected in favor of Bitcoin maximalism.

Even though there has yet to be released a single, popular, mainstream Ethereum app...
Ethereum has succeeded in creating a similar Cult of true believers (VB replaces SN, for example)...
And this has become very obvious with the creation of The DAO...
Where otherwise sane people actually believe that visionaries like Steve Jobs can be replaced by Solidity code...
And governments can be replaced by prediction markets, etc.

So regardless of Ethereum's merits, its Cult will drive the price higher over the medium term.

On the other hand, The DAO is a fraud from inception...
Since it was designed not by Venture Investors, but by a group (slock.it) seeking to extract max free $$$.

The DAO was not created nor designed by company known as "Slock.it", 5 minutes of research into the DAO is all it took for me to debunk that...

People like r0ach easy to debunk.

As I try to research the actual value of Ethereum in the cryptocurrency economy I come across more and more evidence that it is a kind of good idea, one part of a general concept many people have been working on under various headings, but it is being sold as some major exclusive breakthrough. A 20$ improvement being marketed as a million $ advance in thinking.

First a person notices that there is not any organic activity to justify the valuation. Forums do not have the kind of activity they should have for something at that price. It is sort of like Ripple, an okay product, but nothing great, with a vast marketing apparatus pumping it higher and higher, a bubble getting ready to undo.

Looking at ethereum on Google Trends from January 2013 to January 2016, a person sees a steady increase in activity from December 2013, when it had a relative index of 5, to January 2013, when it scored 100. But if you extend the chart to January 2007 you see that the search term Ethereum peaked at 69 out of 100 in May 2007. https://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=ethereum&date=1%2F2007%20109m&cmpt=q&tz=Etc%2FGMT%2B10 In other words it appears that even the name may have been chosen because metrics had demonstrated it could be made to generate a false 'buzz' at a reasonable cost. Extending Google trends to today a person sees more growth but still May 2007 had 11% of the 'Ethereum search activity" that June 2016 has.

Buy? Sell? Hold?

It looks like a huge fraud getting ready to take a dump. One of thousands of "good ideas", but it is being marketed as "the best idea since bitcoin". What is it that convinced so many people that this modest step was some major breakthrough?

IS BITCOIN A VAST MARKETING FRAUD Huh? Wtf ? btc vs eth ? why ? its only another cryptocurrency !  usd dollars destroy euro ?  japanese yen destroy uk pound ? canadian dollars destroy malaysian ringgit ? WTF HuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuh?

ethocreampie is crap and mist is junk, the network is not for long term. everything is possible when whales behind it. in eth case, the banks or these crypto pumpers want to destroy bitcoin reputation and they have eth to play around.
bitcoin as cryptocurrency is perfect, nothing else is needed. if the scammers or any big brain people want something more they can build around bitcoin, simple as that.
organization also can build it own blockchain to keep record/bill/receipt/whatever by running their own servers(centralized) or pay the fees(pos/pow/dpos or whatever) to others. cryptocurrency or blockchain at this point is perfect. others ipo, premined, coin, platform or unseen promises is nothing but scam idea, instant millionaire, nothing more to it.

there is 0.000000% the world need something like this ethocreampie.
if you want smart contracts use something like rootstock.io or if you want something like ebay then use openbazaar.org
it's seem the crypto community and the world want something more with this crypto or expecting more but in reality nothing more to it beside bitcoin.

others scam platform or coin think they can be better or bigger than bitcoin, they can't, it is just scam idea.
i like lisk but don't mean lisk can be better or bigger than bitcoin, it don't. it's just convenience like i have mentioned before, it can store photo or video in sidechain but don't mean bitcoin can't do that, no people want to build around bitcoin but they rather want their own name and currency.
