I think that already happened. Google almost have the monopoly of searching machine, they know everything about you (yes, even the porn you search.)
No, you're being paranoid. You're assuming two things: 1. The person is using that search engine; 2. They know who is behind the screen. You do not have to use Google if you do not want to.

if it can be a threat, bitcoin and most technologies needs to be evoluation
No. Just because something might possibly be a problem at some point in time that does not mean that we should obsess about it right now. There are other important matters that require our focus.

They dont need to say they are working with bitcoin,if they join bitcoin we would see another bubble happening into bitcoin value ,and well this time i doubt the value would decrease .
If super computer get involved in mining bitcoin than bitcoin will be no more decentralized coin and also if these super computer are only accessed by google and some large company other miner will not have chance to get some coin out of mining.

Yes if supercomputer get evolved than it will be threat to bitcoin.

I would  be very sceptical on the speed claims of this thing, and either way i think nasa and google have got better things to do than try to crack private keys/mine all day.

Do not worry about Google hashing for bitcoins. Instead, worry about how will you live your life privately without them knowing every single thing you do through the use of this Quantum Computer to monitor your activities.

That is way scarier than them mining all of the remaining bitcoins to be mined and cracking all the privkeys (the latter of which is close to impossible.)

Google supercomputer can't be a threat because Google is not so cheap to make something vulnerable for anything. Google is giving life to bitcoins era.
Google is giving us the knowledge and experience about bitcoins.

Hello guys,

I was reading my daily news when I saw this:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/news/12042781/Google-D-Wave-quantum-computer-is-100-million-times-faster-than-your-PC.html

If you don't want to open this link, the title is: "Google’s new quantum computer is '100 million times faster than your PC". They also say "It can answer certain algorithms in seconds rather than years".  Shocked

I'm kind of worried, but I don't know if I should be, what you guys think about this? I don't mine but this could affect me somehow if Google decide to use it to mine Bitcoins  Tongue
(any language mistakes? Sorry for that, english is not my native language).
good news, yes i said that is good news for me,and i wish someday will try that D-Wave Quantum computer, and about bitcoin,we dont have to worry about that,i'm sure, even google use that computer for bitcoin miner, they will use it wisely, and if they mine bitcoin, they should be introduce to all people, that google accept bitcoin, and its a good advertise for bitcoin.

People we are talking about one of the biggest if not the biggest company that have all the things required to mine bitcoin cheaper and with a low cost machine, but i hope they dont get into bitcoin ,otherwise we would see bitcoin being total mined in a short time. But as the most places people against the use of bitcoin i doubt google will direct their bases into bitcoin since they hold a monopolio and no one can try them .

Unless we have magic, cracking SHA-256 is almost impossible. Sure, you could crack it first try, but that's like rolling 99.99 on a dice game. 1000000 times in a row.

The supercomputer would guess much faster, yes, but it will still take eons on average for it to crack a private key.

Mining/hashing? Nah. It may be a little faster than an ASIC, but it probably costs hundreds times more than an ASIC.

its not about the power its about the energy required, pardon the pun

Private keys don't use SHA-256. It will be significantly faster to crack a private key since there are known algorithms that QCs can do faster that do prime number factorization, an important aspect in ECC which is used to create the private and public keys. Quantum computers would have an advantage over classical computers in getting private keys from public keys, but it will still take a while. But the time it takes is much much less than the time it takes for a classical computer.

If Google had the indecency to use its quantum computer in bitcoin, it wouldn't be significantly faster than an average ASIC. The one thing it would be alot faster at though, is generating a private key. If Google got hold of someone's private key, that would be very, very bad news.
The computer used by Google is not up to the end of the quantum. More precisely the computer Google works like a quantum but significant results are still very far away. Therefore, modern cryptography is not yet under threat and it is too early to worry Wink

If google gets into bitcoin world if not present ,something i doubt they are watching just bitcoin,if they use their computer to mine bitcoin we would see the coins being mined on the next maybe 20 years instead the 100 years people prediction, and well on that time the demand and popularity of bitcoin would rule the value of it.Soo i doubt those could be bad to bitcoin ,would advance several years of expectation.

Google decided to run a scam/fraud via XT and their main man MH as their first foray into the bitcoin world. And like all scams and frauds in bitcoin land it's now #rekt. Google is on their way down IMO.

What google have been doing for years is to provide solutions to the internet users. One thing among them is speed when it comes to connectivity. I am not sure if google are interested in mining the bitcoins using their supercomputer. What I am sure is that they are coming up with a computer than can compute algorithms within the shortest time possible. What you need to worry is for the bright minds of persons in the bitcoin mining to make a copy of the computers and use it for mining. It is a little bit scary since it will make the coins loose their value.

And why exactly do you think that it will make the coins lose their value if this were the case?  Contrarily, it would make bitcoins gain value due to a higher hash rate and thus, a more secure network.  You can only mine so many bitcoins in a given time because there is only one block to mine every 10 minutes or so.  The reason why it's scary to some users is that it would insinuate more centralization than how mining tends to be now, and it's already very centralized in some aspects, where only big time mining farms running tons of ASICS can earn a decent enough ROI to keep going... for now.  When halving comes next summer, it'll be interesting to see what happens to a lot of the mining farms and if they decide if it's worth it to keep running.
