Yes holding bitcoin for a long term is a best way to make profits as people who have bought bitcoins at lower price before 3 to 4 years and who are still holding their coins have already become millionaire and even I have a same plan to hold it for next 4 to 5 years.
Investments in bitcoins should be made in a long term basis and short term investments suits only for altcoins.Bitcoin does not give huge returns in short period of time.Bitcoin price has raised from $850 in december 2016 to around $3380 today in just eight months.So,longer,we hold bitcoins,larger will be the profits.
Yeah if you want to make good profits in bitcoins then you should have patience to hold if for a long term as you cannot make huge profits from it in short term but make sure that you sell your bitcoins when you are making good profits from it instead of getting too greedy.

If you hold a few BTC then you are already rich my friend. If my vision is right then BTC will definitely reach $10000 price in 4-5 years and the holders will be ultra rich.

Do your research: who started the company, were they an original founder/cofounder of bitcoin, if not look at their experience, what is the purpose of the coin, is it mineable, does it have a maximum quantity as bitcoin. To my opinion it's the correct time to make the money today.It's around 3353$ .Which is 300$ greater than today. Of you are satisfied with today price means you can sell it today or else keep your bitcoin for longer as much as possible and sell it.You will became richest person.
It all depends on what purpose. If you get a small profit, you can sell it as soon as the price rises to the desired mark, and if you want to fly to the moon, you can hold it for several years.
Purpose is profit of course, after a long time of waiting. Holding bitcoin for a long time is not a good it is a perfect way to make money. Just invest money and forget about it, you do not need to do any thing

at the price 5 years ago, now close your eyes and try to imagine price in 5 years from now, if you buy now how much profit you can make?

Holding BTC is a safe investment but I think there is more money to be made by trading.
As long as you do your research and buy decent coins, your profit will always be in BTC
So personally I think BTC is still the best coin to invest in, I grow my BTC by trading other coins.
