Time and market, over time, will show what is more profitable. I still watch some IEO projects and analyze them, and how their tokens behave in the market. I can say one thing, IEO has certain advantages that ICO's cannot now provide.
IEO's are the exchange's projects. Exchanges make rules on this stage. If they don't MM I'm sure all projects wouldn't raise quite enough money. But with MM from exchanges IEO become lottery for participation and instruments for specific coins aka exchange profits. It's manipulation but in the next stage of scam
They are "sort of" more profitable but that is because IEO tokens are checked out by the exchange before hand and makes you research less, if you go into IEO you know that coin must be at least not scammer, that doesn't mean it won't fail, the creators and the team could suck and fail and the price could drop but at least they won't scam you.
Now in ICO, there are plenty of scammers too and failures too but do not forget some of the most awesome ICO coins that came up and made like 1000%+ profits to their investors as well. We can say that best of ICO's and best of IEO's will be about the same but the worst of ICO is much worse than the worst of IEO's and that is the difference, highs are about the same but you get less risk and better lows when you go into IEO.

IEO is still an ico because they just list there coins from those exchange to attract some people in investment and to buy it from exchanges. Its a good way to gain for their sales to gain money and reach the minimum they need.
It is not every IEO that is profitable, there are as well some ICOs that can also generate profit for investors. IEO projects can also be shit coins just like the ICOs. Crypto is not always a win win affair, you can as well lose.
Money is collected faster. Under the pumps. And the result is not known. Only the main problems he does not solve. I do not know, we will see what they get out of it.
The IEOs collect so much money for a reason, everyone wants to be a part of the legit token sale. Especially in the crypto projects, the majority of projects are a scam and only legit projects can achieve IEO level. IEOs actually now is more profitable than ico that's the clear facts, looking at the statistics of the rate IEO has operated it show so far 80% success story.

All the coins coming from crowdfunding suffer the same fate, but it's the project and the roadmap is the one that matters, coins go down and up but eventually will have demand in the market, once the platform and roadmap has been realized, very seldom that a coin that just entered a market will not suffer a dip.

If you are not sure about the prospects of the project, then why buy tokens after IEO? IEO gives the opportunity to earn the first investors, after that the price of tokens is reduced. But if the project has prospects, you should not judge its cost at such a short distance, buy tokens and hold them for about 2 years.
If the Token really have purpose then the value will eventually go higher after the progress, invest with something you really trust can bring huge amount of profits, best to make sure that you have good knowledge and understanding so you'll be good in the long run even wait will take you to materialize. 
I already to participate in one of IEO project and that's profitable. Faster in token sale and faster to register on exchange than ICO project.

So far i see invest in IEO it is profitable. Many IEO project was successful and now IEO projects are very good as short-term investments.

IEO and the ICO is not so much different in between them. But If you are purchasing the token IEO you have the advantage of that you can sell your token immediately on the exchange. But, for ICO investment you should evaluate the whole project before investing.

For shure - now IEO profitable than ICO. We don't need even ask it - just need to look an numbers and percents. IEO's (almost all) gives at least 2x from selling price or higher.
