I think you have to observe "But the rumor sell the news" but in reverse. Which means BTC is being or has been sold and buying will start on Aug 1 (or a bit sooner or later once segwit has settled and it's safe to do so).  Wink

I don't see any positive scenario for altcoins. If BTC drops because segwit is a mess, alts will drop way more and and if segwit succeeds, altcoins will also be sold as a form of reverse flippening.

Thank you all for the great insights and advice. I'm still a strong supporter of ETH for its potential but it was not meant to be a currency like BTC. It is indeed crazy, as someone mentioned, to have 90% ETH, which is why I was planning to diversify. With ETH testing the $150 support now and all the crypto-currencies going down since a few weeks, I'm considering reverting to fiat until things settle down in August. I hate to give up and panic sell but maybe this is the best ATM. Inputs welcome...

nope rather this is the right time to sell bitcoin and buy eth. bitcoin is already on its massive down time where the split of chain will happen and segwit is coming this august 1st in eth i have some good result this fast few weeks and im already loving it . eth is also crypto currency thats why it's usable in my daily transaction in my business.
Yes, I agree, starting August the bitcoin price may go down, maybe it's better to buy eth than to buy bitcoin. But if you do believe in bitcoin, maybe buy bitcoin, but we all have been advised to prepare for the worst possible in August.
Can not be sure bitcoin prices will decrease when segwit occur. Some news does state that bitcoin prices are down but there is also a reliable analys who says that bitcoin prices will increase. So for me at this time everything is still limited to speculation, no news stating the truth. We will see it all on the 1st of August, everything will be felt when the time has come.

It seems to me that such operation is not bring any profit. The decline of bitcoin prices entails lower prices for all other crypto currency. What is the meaning of sell cheap Eth to buy cheap bitcoin? After August 1, prices will rise on everything. Bicon profitable to buy only Fiat.

ETH is strong don't sell strong coin, sell shit coin and hold both btc and eth, i would keep your ETH for now, it won't fall much until it get pumped again after this 1 august drama ends

actually for now that everyone is dumping i would hold everything, and i'll wait for the next pump before doing my move

Yes, ETH is really powerful, it is even more powerful than LTC, however, if you want to compare it and bitcoin, I assert that it is not strong enough to beat bitcoin, it is still a young coin late.
I agree and the price of ETH is also not favorable now. Nearly all of the traders are sure about the date 1 August for big markets volatility and speculations. Even if the prices of altcoins will fall, ETH (and i think also ETC) there are going to resist to fall. If the price of altcoins will increase, their performance will be better than many altcoins and of course bitcoin.

[1]- Will BTC crash at the end of the month due to the uncertainty around the fork(s)?
[2]- Is BTC likely to split into two viable chains, thus giving coins on both chains to those who owned BTC beforehand?

[1] Likely there is a chance that there will be a crash but expect that after crash, rise is going to follow it.
[2] Yes but it's only applicable if you will store your bitcoins into an offline wallet because there's no assurance that the exchange can support both chains, so secure yourself.

Yes, it is a good time to buy btc and eth as its price still at this point and we know the potential of both of it could rise significant within weeks.
However, if you doubt whether bitcoin or ethereum prices will be drop futher in case of negative news regarding bitcoin, I suggest to wait until July 21th when they test segwit2x into the blockchain network, if many bitcoiners/miners support it then its price will rise and vice versa. For now, you can check on this site https://coin.dance/blocks

Buying bitcoin is a good idea expect that ethereum will drop this coming few months and i think if you are holding good amount of ethereum if you stay holding them expect to that the price will decrease more . better to sell them early and convert into bitcoin before august.. I don't what will be exactly will happen in bitcoin but i feel that we will see a good result after splitting..
So in august 1 just dont't deal to someone just to be safe to your bitcoin ..
The splitting is an irrelevant thing, the complete statement about the hardfork of bitcoin BIP148 will be activated in 1 August, but there are no more words that have the relationship with the splitting of the bitcoin blockchain.
Did you read the latest news before trying to spread the bullshit thing about splitting the bitcoin blockchain? Are want to make another people scared with the rumour about the splitting of the bitcoin blockchain?  Roll Eyes

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not sure...
90% in eth!?!? Holy crap you aren't a very wise investor there! I'd never hold 90% of my assets in anything ever, let alone an infinite supply crashing shitcoin!

I disagree about ETH.

I believe that ETH will eventually get back into the double or even single digits before it's all over, so if I were the OP I would get out of ETH asap.

Run for the hills and buy some bitcoin!

Totally agree. Litecoin went up to $50 each, then dropped to $1 each. I expect the Ethereum crash to be very violent...as in SINGLE DIGITS.

It is a wise decision when Bitcoin prices are down, you can stock Bitcoin and wait for it to increase. Besides, I'm still worried that Bitcoin will crash but there are no concrete evidences of what will happen now.
If i really had the capability to predict the market swings then i would have being a millionaire by now,it is really difficult to predict how the market will react if at all there is a split and my guess is that people might get scared off and sell off their coins, till the time comes the only thing you can do is speculation.

At the moment my portfolio is about 90% ETH and 10% of various altcoins (no BTC). I would like to diversify by swapping about half of my ETH for BTC. Is it a good time to do so with ETH rallying and BTC being more or less stable?

Basically, what I'm really wondering is:
- Will BTC crash at the end of the month due to the uncertainty around the fork(s)?
- Is BTC likely to split into two viable chains, thus giving coins on both chains to those who owned BTC beforehand?

I'm not fully up-to-date on the latest bitcoin developments so I'd be happy to get some insight.

Thanks

Just a thought, wow about moving to USDT if one is afraid of a crash?
Stay away from USDT, before you buy USDT read their tos.

ETH dump has just begun, i've read on reddit that EOS is dumping ETH for fiat. what would happen if other ICOs start unloading ETH? the price will go down significantly!

Either go all in Bitcoin or sell everything and move it to bank if you can. If btc falls, alts will fall more, so it is not a good idea to try to hedge against btc falls going to altcoins. Well, at least it is a risky idea.

If you hold Bitcoin you may get some free alt if there is a fork

But recent days condition is not like that alts like ethereum, litecoin, dash and Dodge seems to settle on their own price. Growth of alts is better than bitcoin from this February onwards. I see the even bitcoin is moving upwards from yesterday. What so ever happen bitcoin will be always top.
