EDIT: It seems Cryptsy uses "BitCoin" and "LiteCoin" but Dogecoin is just "Dogecoin" without the capital C. Hmm...

It's the Bitcoin symbol where the real confusion begins

I personally like BTC best (like the most commonly used Bitcoin logo) but it's not an official unicode character yet.
The best way to display or use this character yourself is probably Font Awesome. Looks great and works pretty much everywhere.

A good alternative is ฿ (unicode 3647), it works everywhere but the disadvantage is it's also the symbol for the Thai Baht. Ƀ (unicode 579) is also used sometimes.

I can confirm this is true but most cases bitcoin does well for both cases

bitcoin is the unit, of which you can have more than one, e.g. 3 bitcoins.
"BitCoin(s)" or abbreviating it as "BC" (instead of BTC) is for retards

You should definitely use Bitcoin because BitCoin is usually what people that have something against it seem to prefer to contrive it a bit.
But even Satoshi has used BitCoin at some point, as the folder were the "wallet.dat" file is located is indeed with that different spelling:
C:\Users\YourUserName\Appdata\Roaming\BitCoin (Vista and 7).

I just created my first site (www.bitwhistle.com) for BitCoins or Bitcoins whichever the case may be, and I want to at least make it appear like I know something about the topic the site is about.
