It's been useless and full of spam since 2013 (2012?). Once everyone and their dog started realizing you could make a quick buck opening a coin and pre-mining/ICO/pump'n'dump'ing it, everyone started creating a coin just so they could make some $, not so that they could actually help the altcoin scene to improve.

uhh, there are more crypto related boards than this one, for example dogecoin is very popular on reddit.

but yeah, you are right that altcoin hype is already over and I see only real chance to success for bitcoin, dogecoin and dash, basically nothing else. (well, maybe something establish by some private corporation etc..)

I wouldn't say all other altcoins except Litecoin and Bitcoin are a load of crap. There are indeed altcoins which have good features.

For some coins this is the only way to 'advertise' and you might ask yourself is this the project you want to invest in which has no damn potential to reach users outside a tiny forum section.

I think it has pretty much always been like this. Sure, you get some decent discussion but most of the time its always been just trolls and bagholders pumping or spreading fud.

Altcoin section is not yet dead , it is just plagued with a lot of trolls recently .
first it was litecoin and now it is monero , and tomorrow it is going to be another altcoin that they are claiming is the next replacement for bitcoin!!

and this was always the way things go , because the nature of altcoins requires that. but you can still find good discussions here too.

agree! But it doesn't mean the altcoins are dead! Most supporters or dev teams of the altcoins are actively involving in their own ANN thread!
