Just scan any file  you download before opening it.

Online security is better.

There is a possibility it could be bound malware.
If the file is way too big or looks odd size wise that could be a sign.
Scan it on virustotal, it has a huge amount of antiviruses and is ran by Google so its pretty awesome.

Viruses usually comes from unknown senders, emails or files format.
If you received this file from person you know, send him private message and check if he send you this file or not.

Yes! Because apparently, you can change file names to end to any extension. Maybe it's not even an image and as soon as you try to open it it starts downloading a virus. Never open files received from people you don't know.

Yes, if you don't know the person, never do it.

Also if you know the person, still ask what it is. Because there are many viruses that just send files to everyone in the contact list to spread themselves over the skype network.

Could it be a virus or malware?  Or is it not possible?  Ty.
Could it be... ? yes it can..! Just avoid receiving/downloading files from total new strangers or people you don't trust. Atleast avoid it on the personal system that you never want to get in influence of any malicious file.

Could it be a virus or malware?  Or is it not possible?  Ty.

Possible, never receive files from unknown people and better before opening scan them.

I scanned it with avira.  Weird thing is that avira scanned 2 files.  I only received 1 file.

Using Windows?  It makes temp files when scanning/opening some files.
