I would not ever use online wallets like blockchain for storing any substantial amount, they are a target for hackers and their security can be compromised. Or the service operator may decide one day, that it's more profitable to steal all clients wallets, than run the service.

In the case of blockchain.info the private keys are stored locally on your computer and they don't have access to them so it's way safer than other online wallets.
But still, there are lots of risks associated with using them. No online wallet is 100% safe.
The only safe wallet is an offline wallet properly created.

Learning how to store them offline is your best option, don't trust other people with your money unless you're sure they're trustworthy, if you're nervous about fucking up the offline wallet then just practice with a tiny amount you don't mind losing and then when you've worked everything out put everything else in.

it is safe but it doesn't mean you should do it, of course it's safer for you not to hold them there!
you shouldn't have too much problems keeping them there as they are the leading exchanger in the business..

So coinbase or blockchain?

Blockchain.info is much better choice, Coinbase is about the same as MtGox

Keeping funds online is not safe anyway and there are many examples lately of people getting burned by online wallets.
Keep on exchanges only the money you actually trade with.

nothing is completely safe. for storing coins, mtgox is certainly less safe than an offline wallet.

You better setup a linux box setup an encrypted wallet, backup this wallet, encrypt the backup and save it in the cloud

Technically challenged at this time, that sounds like a serious challenge. Would virtual Linux box on Windows do?

Been a learning curve for me, just been in over two weeks. I will look into paper wallet in the next few weeks.

I am happy with Coinbase and Blockchain.info for now. Wish I bought at $100. I put in big amounts in silver 3 years ago think it would reach these heights like bitcoin, unfortunately hasn't. Wondering whether to sell silver at 50% losses and plump in BTC.

If you really want to store it online, blockchain is probably your best choice.
Don't forget to make a encrypted backup Smiley

Ok I will familiarise myself with Blockchain, coinbase seemed more intuitive and safer.

Just get out of MtGox while you still have time. You're lucky you still have your Bitcoins on there  Wink
Basically, any kind of online wallet is unsafe.

Is it safe to hold bitcoin with MT GOX if I get YUBI key and OTP card plus google authenticator.

I don't know how to do Paper wallet. Also I prefer everything online.

It depends on the risk appetite, as a rule of thumb you should keep funds you are willing to loose inside your online wallet.

MtGox has a long history of issues. I'd stay away from them unless you want to become a statistic.

So coinbase or blockchain?

Blockchain.info web wallet is better, as you have control of the private keys.
Of course, offline wallet is the best.
