Bitcoin: An Idea Worth Spending

i'm new here.is this the thread where i can sell my account?

Seriously, I'm curious as to what my account would be worth, not that I'm interested in selling it.

I don't think anyone would scam with your account, they would just get multiple BTC per month in Signature advertising for all of your posts.

But...but...but wouldn't a scammer then want to double dip, get monthly revenue until they pull the trigger on their scam, then they'll even be able to sell the account once they're done.

Or, better yet, a scammer would buy my account to make sure I'm outta the picture, not being a loud voice to try to uncover their scam.

That said, asking price is now $100,000 USD, payable in BTC, and I'll ride out into the sunset. $123,456 USD if the BTC are tainted.

Kind of strange that a sort of "black market" for accounts is allowed to operate on the site when everyone knows mos of the accounts will be used to scam.

I think it is ok if the account is a 'support' account for one of the bitcoin services if the service is sold to an investor.

Of course, I think most people expect that to happen, e.g if I own "EpicDice_PR" and sell the company, said buyer gets "EpicDice_PR".

As it has been answered, yes Forum accounts are allowed to be bought or sold, and you may have more than one. The reason being, it would be impossible for the staff to weed out all account sales and multiple accounts. We just couldn't do it, so by allowing it, everyone is aware that it happens and knows to watch out for it if they need to. If we said no buying/selling accounts and no alt accounts allowed, the many people who could slip through the cracks would be able to do far more damage, as the community wouldn't be on guard the same way it is now.

That being said, buying/selling accounts isn't always bad, people can use the accounts for paid signature advertising, giveaways, and whatnaught, rather than using them to scam. There are scammers, and those that use alts responsibly. Some people have alt/purchased accounts so that they may speak their mind without fear of people associating certain ideals or policies to them. For example, and established business may not like to post their personal opinions which may be unpopular on the account that also is used to faciliate trade.

I hope this clears it up a bit better.

+1, Thanks for clearing this up.

Imo, this and for advertising space is the only legitimate reason for buying Bitcointalk accounts. Even if you're a legitimate business owner, you shouldn't buy an account, mainly because people will notice and accuse you of being a scam.

I'm surprise to know this, because this is not allowed on most forums.

You are profiting by spamming us with your sig/advertisements.

Why are you not surprised at how that is allowed or any different than selling the entire account ?

Wasted resources aside, if a ban on either practice was to be implemented, this would make BTCtalk no different than most other fascist/big brother run forums.

You are allowed to sell accounts, but many people look down on it, and some people may even distrust you for it.

This. If you want to gain reputation, earn it yourself.

I'm not here to debate that. You missed the point I was making.

You also may not be aware of the fact that many/most forum users do not approve of this practice. Those that do, tend to stand out. Wink

I'd say this practice is tolerated by the forum because of how nearly impossible this would be to stop. Any attempt would be a waste of time/resources and will only serve to benefit the sellers as the price will skyrocket. eg. it will turn into a crypto war on account selling.

It is allowed to sell publicly accounts. It is also allowed to have more than 1.
