https://bit.ly/387FXHi lightning theory
I'm mainly surprised by the "we" used by Satoshi: "We propose a solution". Because of his sudden disappearence, I always assumed Satoshi must have been one person. Satoshi's last post didn't sound like someone who expected to disappear: Added some DoS limits, removed safe mode (0.3.19).
If it's one person, I can imagine he had an accident, was jailed or got murdered. If it's a group of people, that's much less likely.

Up to the next 10 years! If I dare make a guess for the Bitcoin price 10 years from now, it's going to be anywhere from $10 to $10 million. In the past 8 years, Bitcoin went up in value ten thousand fold. The growth will eventually have to turn into an S-curve and slow down. You may quote me on this 10 years from now Cheesy

I think I brought this up a while ago also.
Someone was saying here that a lot of the writing looks as if it’s from one of the original bitcoin development team (might have been schildbach) anyway my thought is that the team used to run the account, maybe schildbach and Sirius and potentially theymos, and then they each had an account anyway and thus made the forum more secure by splitting their ways and locking the satoshi account.

I'm mainly surprised by the "we" used by Satoshi: "We propose a solution".
That's probably a lot more easily explained than some of the other mysteries around Satoshi.
In scientific papers, even when they're written by a single person, it is not uncommon to use "we".
I don't know exactly why, but I've seen it quite a few times.
May have something to do with the fact that in many cases there are at least a few indirect contributors to most scientific work.
In short, it's probably just an indicator of a scientific / an academic background of Satoshi.

Because of his sudden disappearence, I always assumed Satoshi must have been one person.
One of the most likely explanations for that may be that you will have to differentiate between the Satoshi who "invented" Bitcoin and the persona Satoshi who actually wrote the code and was active on the forum.
There may have been a group of people who collaborated to design Bitcoin, but only one of them was a programmer with some decent skill.
After the initial design had been laid out, the others may have stepped back, leaving the programmer alone with the dirty work.

In the end, the single "public" persona Satoshi disappeared, whereas the people behind never actually appeared in the first place.

Satoshi's last post didn't sound like someone who expected to disappear: Added some DoS limits, removed safe mode (0.3.19).
AFAIR, Gavin received some emails from Satoshi for quite some time after his last post.
So, he didn't disappear nearly as abruptly as it seems.

Woke up straight to my phone and notice the pinned news although the white paper isn't the best place to go if you truly want to learn about bitcoin but is a step closer to that. I had the suggestion the White paper should be pinned long time ago and I'm glad to see that has happened. Just wish it can stay longer instead of a one day event.

Satoshi Nakamoto's original paper is still been ignored by many today. The crypto (Bitcoin) community on bitcointalk.org (Bitcoin Discussion) welcomes new community members (potential investors) in their hundreds daily yet i see no effort/discission made available to educate these newbies on what bitcoin really is.
Let's take a good look at the Bitcoin Discussion thread for a second all you can find there are spam upon spam. The newbies have now been left in the hands of spammers to educate them. I feel every newbie should be introduced to what bitcoin truly is first via the whitepaper (it should be pinned) so they know bitcoin is truly a revolution and not some get rich quick scheme and keep their emotions in check.

Here is a link to the whitepaper:
https://bitcoin.org/en/bitcoin-paper

What's your opinion on this? And back to my question, Have you read the bitcoin whitepaper?.

There are quite a few on the Bitcoin Discussion board:

Bitcoin soon anniversary-10 years
It's been 10 years!
Happy 10th birthday to Bitcoin!
Bitcoin turned 10 years old! It's a lot or a little?
Happy 10th Birthday Bitcoin! have you got any presents?
Happy 10th birthday to Bitcoin! 31/10/2008 -31/10/2018
Bitcoin's 10th! Where is it heading?
When do you consider Bitcoin to be 10 years old?

I particularly like the last one by @DooMAD, which debates about Bitcoin’s specific date of birth amongst the following options: 18th August 2018 (date of bitcoin.org domain registry), 31st October 2018 (Satoshi’s whitepaper release) and 3rd January 2019 (genesis block mining).

Waiting to see if @ xtraelv comes around with a great historical post on the topic.
Glad to see those threads and I really like the last on too and it will be a good debate thread to stay tune as well with some great convos out there.

Not to be rude but I guess you have made a mistake on your post Mr. DD you just posted 2018 instead of 2008. "31st October 2018"

No plans yet. I consider the forum's 10th birthday to be Nov 22, 2019, so it's a ways away.
Ways away but let's celebrate theymos has plans for it.

I posted some thoughts in this thread.

@theymos: How will the tenth anniversary of this forum be celebrated? I don't mean what happened in the April Fool's Day Tongue

I'm mainly surprised by the "we" used by Satoshi

That's standard practice in academic papers, even when written by one person.

I am no stable coin. to the mooonn.. and back
If there isn’t I think we should make one for the occasion since the news at the top of the forum reads it’s the anniversary of the white papers’ release.

I was late reading it by about 2 years after being here, if you haven’t yet read it, I’d urge you to take a look into it to see the thoughts behind the first most stable cryptocurrency and the generation shift of a people who only two years prior had invented the smartphone (I still think mobiles came out far too late Grin).

I think you got it bit wrong about the smartphone invention dates. some links for you to read Smiley
I have seen the movie. it was eye opening..

I have also exhausted a lot of search options and have found no thread dedicated to the anniversary of bitcoin's original whitepaper.

The info at the top of the landing page does a lot to create awareness and presents the link to those who may be yet to read it. And also clear the air as to exactly what anniversary it is, as some believe it's the launch of bitcoin, that which would be early next year.

@theymos: How will the tenth anniversary of this forum be celebrated? I don't mean what happened in the April Fool's Day Tongue

Maybe a bitcoin party, free BTC for everyone invited, that'd be a good prank.

It has been a long time, and I think there should be a publication that tells about the early days and provides more information about the Bitcoin.
Since it has gone public and there is no longer a link between it and the dark activities, I hope that old members"Sirius" will be invited to answer questions.

I was looking for one too. But I reread the first message he sent to the cypherpunk mailing list and there it is that it was on 31 October that he sent the message. So there are two celebrations. One when he published and the other when the world could read about.

I was going to do that, then I saw it bitcointalk wasn't registered until 2011-06-24.

So, I figured it belonged in a main section rather than forum meta.

But meta meta  Roll Eyes

Otherwise, 2008 doesn't even seem that long ago looking back. I think I joined this community in 2012 sometime. I heard of BTC around 2010 but didn't really understand the value of the system.

Then again, until it can solve the scaling problem, I'm not sure there's much of a value.
