When I want to follow a user, I'll memorize his/her username, then Google him/her (like if you search 'el kaka22' at Google, the first result comes out will be my bitcointalk profile). Then check for his/her last posts. You will see that user's newest posts on top. That's how I've followed another user in the past.
Same thing here, but I realized that memorizing the user ID would save you some time in searching the name of the bitcointalk profile in a search engine. Idk but I find it more convenient than typing the name of the user (especially if it's a long and sometimes unintelligible.)
