As we know, the king Bitcoin, mother of all crypto, is on a very stead bull rise. This time is not like 2013, the uptrend is slower, more controlled, and sustained over time. Ever massive selloffs like the few ones we have seen due the shady chinese government PBoC press releases, cannot stop bitcoin from going up. It always recovers stronger than before. All you have to do is keep buying all those dips.

The question arises: What's the point of holding alts? Not a single altcoin seems worth holding when BTC performs this good. Not a single altcoin is revolutionary enough to be a serious #1 contender. So what's the point in any case? might as well go all in on BTC.

1. BTC transaction capacity is already maxed out.
2. BTC is Wasting enormous amount of electricity and real estate storing ASICS.
3. BTC Proof of Work is a Technical Dead End
4. BTC is already priced out of the micropayments industry , with the now ever increasing fees, it will price itself out of many Foreign markets.
5. BTC is Centralized and Manipulated by China (Never know when they will have to sell to prop up the Yuan.)
6. BTC Miners are the only ones that can receive Transaction fees for processing blocks

I Hold ZEIT for the following reasons

1. ZEIT has 20X the Transactions Capacity as BTC
2. ZEIT is Energy Efficient.
3. ZEIT has enough coins to be affordable across the world.
4. ZEIT will own the micropayments industry.
5. ZEIT is economical to be maintained for a very small sum of fiat, unlike the millions required to keep BTC running.
6. ZEIT is changing to an Ultra Low Inflation coin , meaning the Price will rise
7. ZEIT is PoST (Proof of Stake Transactions) , Anyone that runs a wallets will be able to process a transaction fee when they stake.  Wink

8. And the Final Reason to Hold ZEIT's Upside Profit Potential is in the X1000000 range, with BTC even if it hits $10,000 per BTC, you limited to X10.

I don't have any decent profits that will earned if I sold my hold NEM today so I will just keep it even if it will become dead. I already accept that thing but I don't see any reasons why NEM would be dead. There are still lots of developments and future plans for NEM. Even with cheap price today you can see that their devs are active.

Just giving it a time and sure I will make a decent profit out of holding it. For now just riding the wave of bitcoin price increase trend.

i wouldn't take a risk for holding altcoin when bitcoin price rising like now, get small profit from altcoin still better than take a risk for it, because we all know that if bitcoin price going up, altcoin will down so fast

As we know, the king Bitcoin, mother of all crypto,

Maybe father of all crypto Cheesy.

The point of holding alts is because there are people who are looking into has another option for getting profit.

That's the simplest answer that I can say, looking upon the market cap of each coins that you'll hold that will give you the reason to hold.

And when its market cap increases, you'll benefit from it upon holding.

Yup. And its really much profitable than bitcoin. If you really know how to trade altcoins. You can earn huge amount in just seconds. But its not good for long term because some altcoins usually dies kr turned into a scam. I would not recommend altcoins for long term trading. Altcoin trading is the cheapest way to earn. You can buy cheap coins and sell it when it pumps.

holding altcoin is good for me at least if the altcoin is increase to follow bitcoin price then i think it should be increase more than the highest price before. i think altcoin is to back up bitcoin when bitcoin is getting down and if bitcoin is increase, then altcoin will be cheap in price and its good to holding. and now, i am holding some of coins especially the oldest coin plus new coins in my wallet and waiting for another increase and adjustment prices from the altcoin.

I just think if in the altcoin all about the money maker competition. with a conclusion to make a lot of money. rather than use it become the daily currency. It is my clear statement about why are the people need altcoin or interesting with it.

If that's not a post to boost activity idk what is, lmfao. How about a contribution rather than a clump of words?

Anyways, back to the actual discussion with real responses...

Altcoins are mostly used to get more Bitcoins so regardless of the value of bitcoin your moves for getting more of them through trading altcoins should not be affected.

A major spike could impact your buying power on the altcoin side but spikes in BTC price tend to cause dips in altcoin prices. When this happens you can usually buy cheap alts in anticipation of a correction on the BTC price.

Or it can all go the other way Tongue

Personally I have dumped every altcoin except the ones that I think are too undervalued and I actively follow and could also spike at any time soon. For now there is no point in holding a coin just because it's a good long term investment, dump it and buy it back cheaper  Cheesy.

While BTC might be the "main" coin, I still think coins like Monero, Litecoin, Dash, & Etherium are still decent and have a chance at becoming very popular if Bitcoin goes mainstream, along with the fact that they've all got something that bitcoin doesn't, each appealing to a different market of users.

And, like @cryptohunter, there's a lot of people who are using Altcoins as stocks to try to invest money.

MY RED TRUST LEFT BY SCUMBAGS - READ MY SIG
BAY - is worth holding (to me) along with any undervalued alt coin with a lot of good development that can outpace even btc's growth factor.

Perhaps there are many others that are below value too that will rise faster than BTC even in a btc bull run.

You could argue you may hold alts only to speculate and accumulate more BTC.

Then again some argue you only hold BTC to eventually gain more Fiat Smiley

Some alts will provide things BTC is unable to or even if BTC could provide them they will never become adopted by enough miners to be implemented.

BTC to me is fine as it is.. it is the crypto storage of wealth. As a currency to be used fast and efficiently perhaps we don't need one currency/coin it can be distributed over a few currencies  that are reasonably stable against BTC.

I guess it is simple. If you see a coin you think has a lot of potential for 100sats and believe it will become a 200-1000 sat coin regardless of btc steady increase why would you not hold it?

Yes, some people are saying Litecoin is the sleeping giant, so I hold one LTC or two, just in case of. Anyway, even if it does not increase, I still like the coin for its Bitcoin-likeness. People mainly do hold altcoins for speculation, as I do. But a great part of them hold them because they believe in it (Monero) or it brings incentive to them (Diamond).

Hold bitcoin in your crypto portfolio and along with it add ICN tokens or Iconomi. It has a diversified fund with 15 % in bitcoin and the rest into the top 8 to 10 altcoins such as dash, monero, steem, ether, etc. Also there is a chance to see it rallying in the coming weeks once the team announces some updates. And did I mention about getting dividends? Wink

Iconomi is an Ethereum token. What will happen when the next Ethereum hard fork/disaster happens? I wouldn't feel very confident holding such a token long term.

Also, what makes you trust that those people are good investors and will make good picks and not run with the money?

How do dividends work? you get paid in ETH? what wallet do you need to get paid? how many ETH per ICN being held you get?

In the first place, altcoins are not meant for a long term investment but rather for trading purposes. If already on a loss I suggest to just continue holding that coin until the end. Considered that as a loss and just idle it if they already accept they are now eaten alive by those risk associated when holding a certain alt.

And there is still a so called pump series that will happen again on a certain alt even bitcoin is performing a much supported resistance at the current price rate.

monero is a coin that is used in the dw just like btc because of its good anonymity.
when btc price falls maybe people want to set their money to an another harbour.
i think for the future monero is a good place for it.
