There is no doubt that Bitcoin is slowly expanding its user-base. But the new users who get attracted to Bitcoin right now are very different from those we had in 2011 and 2012. Now most of the new users are profit-oriented. They want 1,000% or 2,000% returns in a matter of few months. But the users from 2011 and 2012 were mostly using Bitcoin for ideological purposes.

So just curious.  I know its almost impossible to tell how many people are actually using Bitcoin in the entire world. Maybe this might be a forum moderator question as well I suppose.  Are new people actively joining this Forum?  Are new people actually coming on to Bitcoin.  I have talked with several of my friends about it and had a couple of them even bite for a bit, but they quickly forget about it and they move on.  I guess I am just curious if Bitcoin trend is growing still or if it is more stable, or at a standstill.

Thoughts?

For sure community is growing day by day, though it may not be growing drastically but somehow there are people joining this forum or bitcoin world everyday from every corner of the world, we don't come to know about that as there is no information about this thing but on the forum we can see newbie accounts falling in everytime and asking questions.

of course it is increasing. there are always new people who start using bitcoin and the simplest reason for that is that bitcoin is accepted by such a small portion of the word so there is always new people who find out about bitcoin and start investing until we reach mass adoption. and we can see that effect in price clearly.

Yes, many people are looking for another extra income. and earning bitcoins was more quick and easy due to many sites offering to double your bitcoins in just a couple of days. every day many people got interested in bitcoins, they started to research and ask people how to earn bitcoins and where they can get bitcoins. Bitcoins are more popular now than the time i started earning bitcoins. and now bitcoin user in the entire world was countless.

Yeah, I have lookes through the statistics and it seems that the amount of new participants is not approximately average. However, can we rwally say that it reflects the situtation with Bitcoin? I think more people are starting to use it and yet they maynot become members of this forum, because they are not interested i discussing it. And some people may leave the forum, because discussions here are mostly nonsensical.

yes i also agree with you that the number of bitcoin users is increasing on daily basis, in my area i know that when i start using bitcoin, there were only two or three other people who were using bitcoin, but now i can see that the number of bitcoin users is more than thousands and i think this is really a good progress in the world of bitcoin specially in such a backward hilly area.

You can estimate the number of new peoples learning about Bitcoins and trading/exchanging bitcoins based on Google trends search volumes of Bitcoin and the Bitcoin purchase volume on an exchange in a particular country. To have a brief graphical overview of this you should check out Coin Dance that provides nice looking graphical statistics based on google trend's search results and Localbitcoins trade volumes in different countries. https://coin.dance/stats and https://coin.dance/volume

Also, do keep in mind that not all of the trading happens on one exchange, so you could do the match and calculate the average bitcoin transactions from different exchanges in your country and determine the % increase in transactions. Most certainly this won't give you a clear picture at all of how many new people use Bitcoin, but it'll hint you that if trade volumes are building up newer and newer people are investing in it. You could get to know this base don market analysis and news or events that affect a particular countries currency or stock markets, where if a sudden devalue happens, Bitcoin price tends to soar up.

According to coindesk it is roughly estimated that close to or less than 100 Million people use Bitcoin. A web wallet service could easily track registrations of users based on a single IP to determine unique hits and find out how many such unique hits have created wallets. But ofcourse, a lot of people would not use that particular web wallet and may prefer using hardware wallets or desktop wallets.

I assume that there are gradually more and more people learning about bitcoin and trying it out. I think there will be a growing acceptance but it will take time.

There is a gradual trickle of people learning about Bitcoin. Every now and then, when you have events like the Cyprus crisis or Indian Govt's demonetization drive, there is a spike in interest and more people enter Bitcoin.

It is possible as they are looking an avenue to store their monetary assets. There are also others who are looking for investment, and bitcoin is one of their option. Those who are doing this are visionary people who are looking or thinking ahead of their time.

Yes,new people are joining the bitcoin community every day,but they aren`t that much.

Lots of bticointalk users have multiple accounts here so we can`t know the exact number of active forum

members. It`s even more difficult to know the number of people who use btc.

You are right that only moderator can tell us about the average number of new user in bitcoin but still in my thinking it is not possible to find out that exactly how much person or newcomers coming in bitcoin , because one person can make more than one account in this forum .
So it is a tedious task for everyone .

I bet your friends already have their own source of income and are too busy to add another one. If they aren't into bitcoins, then just let them. The population and popularity of bitcoins doesn't depend on your friends. There are 7 billion people in the world and your friends are just a small fraction of it.

There might be a lot of people in here that have had the opposite experience as yours. For example, I didn't push my friends into doing bitcoins. They start doing it themselves. I don't want to spoon feed them and I guess they just think that I'm somehow cool and financially responsible as I can manage my time properly and earn money. I've become an example to them and they just followed my path.

what you ask -as others have pointed out- is available in the stats page to everyone what you should have asked was where do they come from, as in their IP address for example which country sends the most visitors.

i have had that problem with my friends and all those who i have introduced to bitcoin. they all face the same problems: "no place to use bitcoin" and i guess until that problem exists we will have a hard time introducing bitcoin to others.
