What exactly is the ISIS trying to achieve. Just read that this week they had also kidnapped 200 Christians. What do they plan to do next ?

If they execute them , I am sure it will bring widespread riots and police action into it.

I'll bet they didn't burn one rare book in particular. 'The Anarchist Cookbook'.

[…]

Actually, that's wrong.  The self-proclaimed Islamic State is adhering to a very specific part of the Koran.  They believe they are fulfilling the prophecy by having a caliph and a caliphate.  Terrorism in Western eyes is just part of the old ways of practicing Islam so they believe they are following the rules of their religion by crucifying and beheading as that is what the Koran mandates as law under the caliphate.

It's awful.

They are following a very specific part of the Quran. The part that they want and ignoring the rest. That's what extremists do. They don't represent Islam. Much less the 1.5 billion Muslims in the world.

[…]

Everyone’s an “extremist” (Gronthaing) when its self-preservation goes unmetered (regardless of the veneer [e.g., “their religion” {grendel25}] utilized in the reconciliation thereof with one’s psychological conscious).

What is funny is that they burn hundreds of books written by scholars, Christians, philosophers or whatever they feel doesn't agree with Islam.

But you burn one Quran and they cry cry cry.

C'mon man! Everyone knows that the ISIS have nothing to do with Islam.
What if......the ISIS uses Islam as a shield to cover up their terrorism?

ISIS want the people to go back to the stone age. So this is not surprising. They are against literacy, medicine and science. And still there are hundreds of millions of people who support them.

Hundreds of millions of people? In what world?

Another stupid aspect of this is that many of the works they burned were written by Muslim scholars from the past. When Europe was a forest full of dirty warlords Islam was flowering and making advances in science, medicine and mathematics. So not only are they burning our common human heritage, they are specifically burning their own history.

This fight is not Islam vs. the West. It is DASCH vs. the civilized world.

Organized religion is against science. Now it is ISIS burning rare manuscripts. A lot of knowledge accumulated over the past few millennium is now lost for ever. But this is not confirmed to the ISIS. There are some evangelical Christian sects who are much worse. In the Amazon region, these maniacs murder shamans, accusing them of preventing the local indigenous people from converting to Christianity. These shamans are some of the last people, who have knowledge about rare tribal medications, believed to provide cure to dreaded diseases such as cancer. Kill them, and those medications are lost for ever.

Pretty pointless exercise, not really sure what they hope to achieve. Suppose burning books is better than beheading people...

Total dominance over the areas in which they are in control.
They are trying to control the thoughts of people. Too dumb to realize that this is impossible.

This is the kind of thing I see on a regular basis except much less extreme, there are people out there who would rather we all live in ignorance and fear rather than actually discover the truth and the reason they go after books is like with free speech if there is written questioning of somebodies beliefs it makes them weaker.

Maybe thyey should realize then , that its the whole world they are challenging and not just the beliefs of a few people.

I don't think they'll ever realise it sadly, they're either willfully ignorant or had it brainwashed into them at an early age, it's pretty amazing and sad to see.

This is not new, the human race has probably destroyed more of its own history that it has preserved, usually under the direction of a religion.  So much ancient knowledge has been lost over the millennium, so many ancient cultures' traditions and histories wiped away forever.  We, as a race, would be so much further advanced today if this sort of thing never happened.

This has to be stopped. They need to get nuked long with the idiots that blame it all on X race or ideology (like, they act like that because of USA/jews/whatever you hate, otherwise they would all live happily together). How fucking delusional. These barbaric idiots need to be shoot.

They need to be stopped, yes, but its not that easy. They often hide behind others who they force into joining into their crazy cause threathening to kill their family members.
You cant just nuke whole city where 5% of population is backing ISIS, and thats the main reason why its so hard to fight them.
Burning books is just another example of them trying to limit their people of knowlegde, and lure them to their madness.

cheers

The Taliban did the same in Afghanistan when they took over, those people are really afraid of knowledge...

True that. Then again knowledge has killed a lot of Gods, and they sure are into their God.
Man, what a waste and crime against humanity.

While the world was watching the Academy Awards ceremony, the people of Mosul were watching a different show. They were horrified to see ISIS members burn the Mosul public library. Among the many thousands of books it housed, more than 8,000 rare old books and manuscripts were burned.

They always attack historical symbols to prove their supremacy.
Reminds me of the destruction of the Bamiyan Buddha statues by the Taliban.  Cry

Bunch of medieval philistines
Sad but sadly not surprising at all....

Bunch of medieval philistines....and schools' dropouts!
 Wink

As somebody who barely finished school properly I resent that.

They are getting themselves into much trouble now. Too many crimes commited. If they are against education, then remain uneducated, why hinder the education of other people
