For someone above this post that said about UEFA coefficient for Italy, you got wrong fact sir... It is Football not some statistic out there, im still remember Spain still below German and Brazil in coefficient after Win on World Cup for the first time. If you said that you talk about football club and i make example on National Team its okey... Lets check here if someone that come from outside Europe that know and can talk about atleast 3 or 4 football club from greece, i think no one can do that except he is greek, but he Fact they won on Euro Cup 2004 and who can said that greece football club have good quality on that day??? Let talk others unpredictable result like Udinese match.. I wouldn't call it poor quality. If you check the UEFA coefficient (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_coefficient#Current_ranking), Italian clubs were doing pretty much as good as English clubs in the previous 3 seasons. If Italian clubs can keep it up this season, they could surpass England and get one more seat in the Champions League.

Italian Serie A is poor quality. I remember in the 90's it was best league in Europe with best teams
