The number of spams and topics that has been discussed before that are being posted daily in some sections is quite high and if one of your threads got deleted in those sections then your topic must have been either spam or maybe a topic with the same subject has been created before, searching before making a new thread would help you with that matter, if you make a new thread that is relevant to that section and is not just another topic with the same subject then your topics won't get removed.

A simple and general reason: breaking rules.

- Spam
- Scam
- Bumping service
- Duplicate topic
- and more.

So please read the rules Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ

Which thread was locked, can you share the link of the locked thread?

Please what is the reason behind the locking of a thread by Bitcointalk moderators? some of the thread about altcoins created by my friend has been locked for further comments after receiving up to 60+ comments within 24 hours. What's the reason behind this, please?
Akhjob already answered your query. In addition, bunch of same explanation may also be the reason why a thread is lock. If the topic is very specific and it answered already with the first reply (like this one). Moderators will lock the topic or even OP. So, don`t be mad when you did not reply or your topic was locked already because locking a topic prevents spamming the forum.

PS.

You may now lock this thread. I think it was already answered.

Which threads are these, and who exactly is your friend?

I'm also curious about this, I've browsed through all the altcoin section and I can't find those topics based on what he said, multiple topics with the same author more than 60+ replies in 24h and locked in the last days...

Going through Loycev index for the last 7 days I only found 3 topics that match what the user says:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/just-because-its-called-a-shitcoin-doesnt-mean-it-really-is-5259206
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/is-this-true-or-scam-5259092
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/how-reliable-is-crypto-payment-5259371

It might be possible the topics have been trashed, posts have been deleted so they are less than 1 page now or maybe the author is talking about something that happened a long time ago, anyhow it's obvious he is trying to hide something and at the same time trying to find out how he could avoid the locking of the topics. Probably an ann bumper who got caught.

There is no reason why you get annoyed because the moderators are doing their jobs and task to make the forum more cleaner and do not make spam. I know most of us to experience getting locked our thread ang quite curious about it.

Here are some of my experiences of why my threads getting locked.

  • Duplicate thread
most often we would like to share a topic and sometimes we forgot to check if there is an already topic existed or there is an old thread we don't want to necrobump.
  • Avoid spamming the thread
there is some topics which is many people would like to talk about and cause of spamming.
  • Does not related to the particular board
for example in gambling you make a topic not related in cryptos.
  • Does not have to keep an update
we are avoiding having a necrobump

In addition to what the above poster said, threads get locked by mods if they think the issue/question the OP raised has been resolved/answered. There isn't any more use it serves leaving the thread running after that. Doing that creates repetition and spamming.

How much better it would be if the stater of the topic himself lock the topic once he find his answer from the thread or the purpose is fulfilled. This will not only reduce spam but also it will make less burden on the mods to find and lock such threads which are creating spams.

I noticed even in the gambling discussion board where I usually make my posts, a lot of threads are also locked.

Happy to see that moderators are very active now, I can say that they are carefully reviewing the threads with a lot of replies but with repetitive thoughts, their effort should be appreciated as that's one way for this forum to be soon free from spam.

Apparently, this happened to you again? Not the first time? The name of the topic has exactly that meaning. Whenever some kind of violation occurs, “friends” come to the rescue and always these “friends” are afraid to protect a friend from their main account. Somewhere I already saw it. Cheesy
Surely your thread  was blocked along with the bumping spam service that you hired

friends or you who make threads, it's the same.

Many people ask questions like the ones you ask in Meta.
The answer always leads to some of the things below.

I can't find anything that explicitly answers this question for me, so I figured I might as well make a little Meta post and see what's going on. I've seen a lot of topics, as we all have, that are full of repetitive answers, redundancies and plain ole' spam. Not only mega-threads, but regular questions like in the beginner's and help section; a newbie will pop a question, get it answered, acknowledge they have received their answer and then dozens of people continue to post the same answer. I'm wondering if it is appropriate or accurate to report these posts to a moderator to be locked?

An example of a thread that I was watching can be found here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3123906.msg32423969;topicseen#msg32423969 , and I even suggested to OP they lock their thread after they received their answer. Is there any solution to this kind of problem or am I to just ignore it?

I sent the OP a PM to please lock their topic, I've posted in their thread instructions on how to do so and so now my only thought is hoping that moderators would be receptive to this kind of reporting and work.

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/can-bitcoin-make-banks-disappear-1324174
The OP was thoughtful and genuine, but the topic is now over 300 pages long and most of the replies are now mindless and low quality.

Plus no one is truly discussing anymore. That deserves a lock, yes?

Someone reports your friend's thread to be locked.

Actually I am wondering if OP is really telling the truth, altcoin discussion is a mega thread is a spam board and honestly its hard to find a post there that deserved to stay longer with its redundant topics created.

Mprep is the moderator there, probably a tough job for him to seal deal with lots of threads created there.

Simple reason why its locked its unnecessary.

..the thread about altcoins created by my friend has been locked for further comments after receiving up to 60+ comments within 24 hours...
So, this is your friend's experience? Why don't your friend that post this thread and aks about the reasons? In what boards are thread locked? Local or global? You may ask by PM to the moderator in that board, but remember that the chance is very small because the moderator has criteria why the thread must be locked.

Actually there are some reasons why a thread is locked probably:
1. There are similar other threads that have been created previously, so it is no need to create new thread again, better to continue or post on the previous same thread.
2. So many spams and junk posts that are in your friends' thread. So it is better to lock the thread. If you want to avoid the spam posts or junk posts, better to tell your friend that he should make the thread "self-moderated" because your friend can delete the spam or junk posts.
3. There are also probabilities where the OP only made a thread and he didn't make any reply again, likely making a thread and then leaving it at all.
4. The topic of the OP has been expired, not up-to-date or even no suit for this current.
5. If the OP made a thread with some questions and there are many similar and true answers given by the members by replies or quotes. So, it means that the posts have already answered the topic, so, rather than only there are repetition answers, better to be locked.
6. There are many out-of-topics discussions most on the thread.
7. Plagiarism (copy and paste from other contents)

So, ask your friend or analyze your friend's posts about them.

If your "friend" has created topics related to altcoins and members are getting the same repetitive answers on their posts don't you think by yourself that the discussion is not going any further and the topic should be locked? Your friend shouldn't really be counting the numbers of posts/replies they have in their topic since its really irrelevant, your friend should really be looking for the content behind their topic and if your friend cannot see the spam behind it then he shouldn't be surprised why his topics are getting locked.

Spamming by the other members here in the forum, Most of the time in the altcoin section the discussion really is non-sense so their is a very high chance that the moderator is going to lock topics.

Also, a lot of members could report a topic if the topic is reported so some reason the moderator could also take action. Another thing the OP should also lock the thread if the topic is already answered or resolve since the most of the time it leads to spamming because members are just posting the same answers.

There might be a few reasons for locking a thread by moderators; some of these (not limited to):
1. Thread got enough replies/discussion.
2. OP problem is solved in case that was a question.
3. Thread generating a lot of spam.
In case, if you think all of these are not the case of your friend's thread, your friend may start a self moderated thread which I guess won't be locked. Make sure your friend is deleting the spam on a regular basis.

Threads generally get locked when they constitute spam or when there is already a thread discussion about the same topic or any other specific reason. Why not provide the link of the topic which got locked.

Better move this topic to Meta as it is related to forum moderation.
Definitely. The number of comments doesn't mean anything, even you get a 10 pager thread after being posted 6 hours ago. Threads are more likely to be locked by the moderators if the topic is too off for a reason, not that really substantial, irrelevant at all ( even in off topic lol ) and duplicated or has the same topic as previous posted threads. Moderators more often just lock the thread instead of deleting it, it is a way of saying the reason above respectively, they appreciate your effort on posting and pleasing you not to do that again and be careful next time  Wink
