I don't think any altcoin will ever surpass bitcoin nowhere soon. Yes, we got a lot of problems and we need a quick and fast solution. But even if there are tons of cryptocurrencys better than the original BTC, we still have the strongest market of all coins just for being the pioneer.

However I still believe in multiple altcoins.

I suggest for you to try NEM and Ripple, both coins have the potential and are always on top of the list as one of the top 10 coins currently. But also do a research on the coins too.

The fees have been crazy. I am not sending bitcoin back and forth for the time being.

Holding on exchanges and not sending to any personal wallets. NO reason to pay huge fees. just hodl
I'd rather pay the fee than leave any BTC on an exchange.

There is nothing viable to switch over to/ If it took bitcoin to get this far, how much longer do you think it would take another coin to reach the same level of distribution? Its  not as simple a s just switching over.

Bitcoin has a coinbase wallet.
Litecoin has a coinbase wallet.

Both allow direct conversion between fiat and theirselves.
Vendors can convert LTC to BTC on an exchange , but they don't have too.

It is as simple as telling the person you want to pay , you want to pay in LTC.

Fact, on many merchants sites that only offer credit card , Paypal or BTC,
It is cheaper to use in this order now.
Credit card, cheapest
Paypal, next cheapest
BTC , most expensive

If they add LTC, then LTC would be cheaper and faster than credit cards.
But if they don't CC and paypal are cheaper to pay with than BTC.
Bitcoin lost the micopayment markets and now is losing the retail services markets due to its technical limitations.
I had to buy a service recently and used a credit card because it was the cheapest and least hassle of the 3, since BTC is not usable.
Bitcoin is falling behind Credit cards & Paypal as a payment option, that should tell you how bad it has become.

Totally agree with what you said, TOTALLY AGREE!!!

Im not talking about the logistics. Im talking about all the mental gymnastics the merchant, who probably got talked into taking bitcoins and doesn know squat about them will have to go through.  For him not so easy.

Litecoin maybe? Pretty much the same as bitcoin in some aspects.

Bitcoin will be going on like this until the miners that are being clever don't ruin it completely, and then they will allow SegWit. Until then, I doubt that something will major will be done in order to fix this mess.

The point is we as a community has to make these changes. Bitcoin was once a .05 cents and below coin. It only became popular and expensive because we the community put value into it. Why can't we take that same spirit and place it into a much better coin? Right now there are other coins with low value ready to make these next level of investors just as rich as bitcoin did. Bitcoin is old, slow and outdated. I think we should come together decided on something, promote it across the board and use it. E-Commerce will only switch if we the community demands it. But as long as we are stuck on bitcoins then nothing will change on its own. Its sad to wait days and days for 1 confirmation or to have to chase some freaking fees. We have to come together on this issue and make a change, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

BUY BITCOIN WITH PAYPAL AND CREDIT CARDS
Totally agree with OP's point of view. If you run a business you cannot afford to wait hours for confirmations and to make buyers pay high fees. I suggest you to switch to DOGE or LTC. They are both old coins and most people own them.

I am terrible at Fantasy Football!!!
I've had enough of btc and its rising fees along with many hours of unconfirmed transactions. No one should have to continuously chase fees just to get a quick confirmation. This is insane and madness. This is destroying the business model for those who wish to do e-commerce business using bitcoins.  Which cryptocurrency to you recommended to switch over to and why?
If you want to still do business with crypto currencies you have no option but to use bitcoin, the only business that I have seen accept other currencies are bitcoin casinos, most other businesses only accept bitcoin, so whether you are a seller or a buyer you need to use bitcoin.

I guess bitcoin is not a good investment at this time and really fees and so over price in the sence the it is almost 1 dollar but when you are finding a new currency probably i will buy ethereum it the closest currency in bitcoin and probably will be the next big thing in the digital world so i will buy it.
You're an idiot, a $1 fee is not a big deal especially in the investment world, before Robinhood stocks cost a minimum of $5 per trade. If it isn't a spam attack and you truly have a natural backlog of transactions then you're saying Bitcoin is too popular and that is bad for it's price. That's not how things work, what will happen is someone will finally get their way and blocksize will increase , may it be segwit or another block increase.

This is one of the reasons why altcoins can survive along with bitcoin. At some point, bitcoins are going to be too expensive.
alt coins are beginning to be consider since bitcoin having some issue regarding to its transaction if more exchange will add more alts aside from bitcoin being exchange to a local fiat for sure many traders will use other cryptocurrency instead of bitcoin.

lol, you have no idea what you are talking about.
traders will always be traders, and trading means you are buying and selling something on a platform and never (or least very rarely) withdraw.
the issues you are referring to are the increasing fees and when you don't withdraw you don't even feel that issue.

also for a trader who is making thousands of dollar daily, paying a $1-$2 fee is not an issue.

Clear answer to OP: Litecoin. It is the next best alternative, it has been around almost as long as BTC. It is BTC's younger brother. There is a large hashing infrastructure and most exchanges trade it, in large volume.

It confirms fast, low fees...and will always stay like that, due to Segwit/LN plus guaranteed on-chain capacity.

Now of Bitcoin would also do segwit, and litecoin wasn't scared to tell Jihan that they'll UASF.

I do not see any alternative for BTC, lots of merchants are only accepting Bitcoin.  How can I transact with other cryptocurrencies if the store where I am buying stuff only accept bitcoin?  It is expected that bitcoin transaction fee will increase since the bitcoin adoption is increasing, the price of bitcoin is increasing and the people who do bitcoin transaction are increasing.  Since the confirmation system is created as a bid-like system, people will outbid other people in the transaction fee to confirm faster which result in a higher fee (or fee battle), kinda sad since miners are exploiting this system.  But let us be patient, once the fix is implemented, I believe fee will be fixed.

Fact of the matter is that Bitcoin is still the only form of cryptocurrency that has a lot of merchants and 'infrastructure' around it to make it actually useable.
The number of places that accept Bitcoin can't even be compared to the number of merchants that accept alitcoins.

Though, I'd personally like to see some more merchants accept Ethereum or Litecoin.

You can take a look on ethereum or Ripple.
They solve the actual problems of bitcoin. About the fast and cheap transaction fees. The latest condition of bitcoin network makes not worthy to run e-commerce business.
That will run off the purpose of bitcoin as a micropayment. The main point to take the stable condition of its coin.
ethereum will bee same with btc in future?
