CPU-based altcoins might still work though.

Bitcoin certainly wont work anymore with CPU-based mining. In the mining board someone wrote:

There is a list of CPU mining coins here http://cpucoinlist.com/

That list isn't bad but it hasn't been updated since mid-2014 so some of the information isn't quite up-to-date:

Wild Keccak has a GPU miner; the advantage is known. There are rumors of a particularly performing GPU miner.
X11 is well known to have private elite kernels which can be easily 2-4x more efficient than public.
Groestl2... there was some turmoil with GRS some months ago... I'm not sure this is worth considering.
JHA remains in the realm of "CPU" coins because nobody taken care of resolving the borderline trivial "complications" they introduced.
Cryptonight is known to have private implementations.

Let's say the others are fine.

Yeah I was saying CPU altcoins.

Nice link though.  Smiley

Hey, where can I find a script to add to a webpage to enable CPU mining?

It's not worth it there are websites which have attempted this and in the early days I even looked at it myself it's not feasable and will not work if you aim to make a profit

It is a cool concept though.   An alternative to banner ads on faucet sites.  If there were a coin profitable enough to even make a few satoshis, it would be a good start.

I saw a calculation that showed that all of the CPUs in the world would only be a small percentage of the mining power in the world now.

It isn't going to be worth your time or electricity to CPU mine, even if you have millions of CPUs, unless you have some virus that mines in millions of computers without being noticed, but that isn't something to be recommended!

Even if you "own" all of them. That's probably the one and only good aspect on ASICS.

because you're not describe about mining altcoin
you just say about mining, since this forum generally is for bitcoin
i think you should edit your OP to make people more understand what you're asking for

It doesn't even matter, mining altcoins is equally futile in JavaScript.

Now why would you do that?  You'd be taxing visitor / client CPU/GPU for a few satoshi at best - y'know, unless you wanted to try injecting it into a popular advertising platform with umpteenmillion sites with thousands of visitors.  You wouldn't want to be doing that, now would you?  That sort of stuff could get you into legal trouble, after all; https://www.eff.org/cases/rubin-v-new-jersey-tidbit

I am creating a simple faucet - and I wanna let the users help the funding by using the online miner - nothing shady

Please don't do this. You're wasting your time, their money, and contributing to wasted electricity and won't even benefit from it. If you could a CPU-viable coin and altered the miner, maybe. But don't go after BTC like this.
I have never said I want to mine btc... why everyone is assuming that?

That's what every other webminer has done, so we always assume people are going to take the same path.

I don't even think any CPU coins are going to make a profit, but you might find one somewhere.

I am now using script from https://minergate.com
There is no possibility to mine X11 or X13

you can mine either Bytecoin, Monero, Fantom coin, Moneta verde, Quazar coin or Dash (Darknote)

any of those could be profitable? I will try dash, but on shorter periods it did not generate anything

(The site generated 0.9 bytecoin by now, so hurray 10 satoshi!)

None of these are really profitable, especially given how inefficient JS is compared to something like an ASIC, OpenCL kernel, or compiled C, and how low the values of these coins are compared to mining profitability.

10 satoshi isn't really worth the time it takes to implement mining of this sort, even by copy-pasting. it is equal to $0.00002397, or about 0.01 seconds worth of time at a reasonable estimate of minimum wage.

actually I thought to use altcoins for this.
I am now experimenting on the faucet. The users only go there for a minute or so every 60 minutes so it is not a lot people mining at the same time. Google analytics shows that on average 3 people have the page opened at any given time. The site generated 0.6 bytecoin over around 6 hours. This equals around 7 satoshis Cheesy
Big money/no whammies!  You might want to see what kind of profitability you can get when mining either an X11 or X13 coin.

I tried mining on a JavaScript-based web miner once back in 2011 that used your computer's CPU to mine bitcoins in the background. I was able to make about 30,000-60,000 satoshis per day through it although the price of a single bitcoin was much lower back then compared to today. Because of ASICs and the increased popularity of mining, the network hashrate is 30,000 times higher today than it was in 2011 so I'd be surprised if you could make even a single satoshi per day now.

Nevertheless, if you're still interested after reading what I just said then you can try it here if you want:

http://www.bitcoinplus.com/

There is an embeddable version for websites too although I haven't tried it:

http://www.bitcoinplus.com/miner/embeddable

And finally, a WordPress plugin:

http://www.bitcoinplus.com/miner/plugins/wordpress

EDIT: I see the site has already been mentioned. Well here's a picture to show how pointless the whole thing is:

I doubt you get much help on this.  CPU mining just is not profitable.

I think the shady part is still possibly there with mining through a "online miner"
