Thank you for this input, logfiles. You are right about Exodus. I only meant to explain how Jaxx users can retrieve their funds using a solution they provided. Of course, after retrieving the funds from Jaxx, everybody should use a more appropriate wallet, not Exodus. Exodus was thou one of the two solutions offered by Jaxx, so there was no other way to obtain those funds. But I agree, there are better wallets than Exodus.

Thanks for the announcement, restored my wallet using Exodus, no problems. Everything works exactly the same as in Jaxx Liberty
I wouldn't recommend you using Exodus as well. It's not open source, just like Jaxx Liberty, so there's nothing much you have changed in terms of safe for your funds. Try out coinspace or Unstoppable crypto wallet if you are looking for a multicurrency crypto wallet.

Coin Wallet is Jaxx Liberty compatible (not all coins, but the most popular such as BTC, ETH, BCH...).
Here's how to do it: https://coin.space/how-to-recover-jaxx-liberty-wallet-cryptocurrency/

I did not try to see if it works. Did you try?

However, on Jaxx official blog only Edge and Exodus wallets are mentioned. This is why I specified only them in OP.

RIP Jaxx Liberty
I am not going to lie, lol.

This is my first time coming across this wallet, and yet it's very old. All the way from 2015!  It's open source and also supports multiple cryptocurrencies. Far better than the likes of Jaxx Liberty, Exodus, trustwallet or atomic wallet. Why isn't there so much talk about it or was i blind all along?

i have some old files from jaxx wallet, no idea if there's anything on it, can I check somehow if there's balance? i dont have a passphrase, just the files
The only mention of "files" that I was able to find regarding Jaxx Wallet was these two reports on Reddit[1][2]. More specifically, jaxx_andrei - Staff at Jaxx - posted this when asked how to import wallet files within Jaxx Classic:
Quote
Jaxx always kept the wallet files in the Application Support (Mac) or AppData (Windows) folders. If they have the files all they need to do is to install a Jaxx Classic instance, create a new wallet and then overwrite their files to the ones created by the app in their ^ folders.

If they think they have the files, I can share a copy of the latest build we had for Jaxx Classic if they email us ([[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])).

Unfortunately I can't help with details on the specific files/information you listed.
Sadly both the user and the website listed here[2] doesn't seem to be around anymore and I wouldn't trust anything that states that it still has Jaxx Classic available to download. May I ask, what are the extensions of the files that you have @anonbtcnoob23?

I never used the Jaxx Liberty wallet but do they take the email of everyone when you register for their wallet? Subscribing to email notifications is another thing, if they had emails of their users, they should send this information to everyone regardless anyone opted for the email notifications or not.

Using Jaxx did not require an email. You could opt-in for an email notification though, about their updates. And, if I remember well, at some point they started working on a new feature and you could be notified on email about updates for that feature. I think it was a new coin they had in mind to create / implement, named Jaxx token or something like that, but this coin was never launched. And, if you wanted news about this development, you could subscribe to their mailing list.

To sum-up: not all Jaxx users were notified by email as not all of them subscribed to their mailing list. Only those which made this subscription received the email.

Regarding the other ones things do not look good -- since they did not receive any email, unless they used Jaxx often (thus being able to see any app notification about the future shut down) then prolly not many of them heard about this event on time. Some could see, by pure chance, the posts made on Jaxx's blog. But who know how many these were...

This is why I considered that a topic on BitcoinTalk may be useful for Jaxx users which were not subscribed to their email list, which did not used Jaxx frequently and which also missed their blog posts.

While I understand your stance - as in they are going to close and the users lose access to their accounts/seed phrases - I don't support the fact that they would still send notifications/information to everyone even if a specific users opted out of their e-mail notifications since I'm mostly sure that goes against some kind of anti-spam law in some countries[1]. Here's a good summary explaining the reasoning behind such action[2]:
Quote
Now, here’s the important point: when a person unsubscribes from your email list, that person will be opting out or withdrawing consent previously given. To continue sending commercial emails to that person would amount to your sending unsolicited commercial messages which, in turn, would likely result in your acting unlawfully.
This applies to both unsubscribing from a mailing list but as well to opt-out from receiving such notifications as well (from my interpretation of the actions).

Given that the wallet has been in operation for so many years with probably so many users, the time frame given to shut it down is too small.

Well, if you have the seed phrases with you, then you can import it in any other wallet and will still get your funds access anytime. The important thing is that you have noted down the seed phrases somewhere with you before this wallet service is shut down.

Good luck to those who never even subscribe for the service email notifications. The team should have started announcing about the shutdown 6 months or 1 year before, but then again, this is why it's so important to write down the seed phrase and store it safely as soon as a wallet is created.

I will share information on one of the topics Dompet Bitcoin - Wallet Software which I moderated myself on a local board so that friends can follow how to transfer funds from the Jaxx Liberty Wallet, of course for those who use it.

Thank you!

Given that the wallet has been in operation for so many years with probably so many users, the time frame given to shut it down is too small. [...] The team should have started announcing about the shutdown 6 months or 1 year before

It also baffled me that short time given for moving the funds...

I have this wallet on my PC but only use it for small transactions

And did you manage to migrate it?

I'm glad that you were still able to migrate your funds now, but other users may not be so lucky since probably a good percentage of users use e-mails solely created for Jaxx and probably don't watch it as often.

Hopefully, this topic will help some, at least...

If you go over to Jaxx sub[2] there are a considerable amount of reports of users who aren't able to transfer their funds out of their wallets already. I wonder for how long will Jaxx support exist to help their users/clients?

They said they are not offering any support for wallet migration. Instead, users should address to Exodus / Edge wallet developers if they seek help. This was stated in their blog post.

This link does not work on my end Oo

Took me a while to find that event, but here it is[1][2] and it's quite shocking

I also had a problem with Jaxx but, fortunately it was solved after restoring my wallet...

The topic is not self-moderated. Did you forget it or did you move the topic here?

No idea what happened. I checked the self-moderated checkbox prior writing anything inside the topic (if you start writing and check it later it won't be self-moderated thread due to a bug) yet it seems it is still not a self-moderated topic... Hmmm.

Anyway, I deleted the reference about being a self-moderated topic, since it is not the case anymore Smiley (I hope my topic won't be filled with spam, though )

What amazed me is that there is a person who is still using this service, since 2017, and I hear a lot of warnings, especially related to security, so I did not expect that someone would use it or even that it works until now.

In general, the wallet is compatible with many wallets, and even if it is not, you can use iancoleman and extract your coins ----> https://github.com/iancoleman/bip39/releases/

Topic is self-moderated for avoiding spam.

Good. Jaxx has historically been a pretty crappy crypto wallet in the first place. If I remember correctly (this was like in 2017 or something) — they refused to ramp up their wallet security despite people calling them out on their lack of wallet backup security.
Took me a while to find that event, but here it is[1][2] and it's quite shocking honestly:

Even when your Jaxx has a security PIN configured, anyone with 20 seconds of (network) access to your PC can extract your 12 word backup phrase and copy it down. Jaxx does not have to be running for this to happen.
The comments on the official Reddit sub[3] are also very interesting to read. I'm actually surprised that they were able to survive for such long after that fiasco and declarations from the company CTO. I guess there's always someone who is unaware of these shady companies and somehow they manage to get a hold of them...

The fact that on 7nd of March announce that the wallet will be shut down on March 27th baffles me[1]. We are talking about giving less than a month for users to grab their seed phrases and then who knows what will happen. I'm glad that you were still able to migrate your funds now, but other users may not be so lucky since probably a good percentage of users use e-mails solely created for Jaxx and probably don't watch it as often.

For those which are not aware, Jaxx Liberty wallet recently shut down their services.

I received this email in March:

I saw this message at beginning of April as I only use Jaxx rarely. However, I had some funds deposited inside it and I was afraid I lost them.

I quickly checked Help section from Jaxx and there was a mention to a blog post as well: https://blog.jaxx.io/jaxx-liberty-sunsetting-update.

I tried to transfer my funds but I was unable to. Fortunately, another blog post explained me what to do:

Quote
Migrating your Jaxx Liberty wallet to a different compatible wallet is simple. You do not need to send your digital assets out – all you need to do is input your Jaxx Liberty 12-word backup phrase into a trusted wallet platform like Edge Wallet or Exodus Wallet to manage your cryptocurrency from there. In fact, after we shut down Jaxx Liberty servers on March 27, 2023, using your backup phrase with another wallet will be the only way to migrate your digital assets.

However, this statement scared me a little:

Quote
We expect to officially retire Jaxx Liberty on March 27, 2023, at 8:00 am ET. After this time, users will still be able to view their 12-word backup phrase for a limited time, but they will be unable to make transactions and balances may be out of date

I had my seed phrase stored somewhere but I was afraid I will not be able to migrate my wallet.

However, I took my chances with Exodus (Android version). At first glance my fears worsened: I could not scan the QR code of the screenshot containing my seed phrase. The QR code scanner from Exodus did not recognize my QR code from Jaxx. However, next step I made was to write down manually all the words of the seed phrase.

Hooray, it worked!

I have no idea how things work in case of Edge Wallet, but I believe they are similar.

In any case, I advise all Jaxx Liberty users to migrate their funds as soon as possible, while they still can! I migrated my wallet at beginning of April, so still after the deadline given by Jaxx and I was able to do the operation. However, the more time passes, the lower are the chances to see your seed phrase inside Jaxx, in case you did not store it somewhere else. And also, it is possible that the wallet migration to not be possible after some more time passes.

I hope this thread will be helpful to all Jaxx users.
