I'm not saying it's right or it's wrong but for sure it would be fun to see people with a high rank whining for the lack of smerit especially those who have 20 or more accounts 20 Senior members are waiting DT for red trust abusing bounties + 100smallerACC

Well, ones who join earlier this forum were contributed more to development of this forum and earned their rank. That's sounds fair to me. We're now in the same boat and only left with the option to produce some quality content. If you do it with the intention of simply being helpful, you eventually be noticed and rewarded. Good luck!

So anyway, I applied as a merit source :)
All latecomers will have the same issue unless they change this features,  I got here to promote my website but after seeing a good project from the Ico and those high-rank campaigner making a good profit I become interested but it seems I will never reach that higher rank.
Of course you will never reach that rank because you are bound to become a future shitposter of this forum. I wish you all the best in you shitposting spree in these few years as you account grows up. Grin

I am just thinking if by 1 to 2 years,I stayed on this forum and make contribution to this community but unfortunately no one give me a merit, and at same time I make 1000 quality post,I will still be a junior member just like a legend. Is it fair? Sir Thymos.

Why it's not fair ? If you make spam post rather than make quality post, why it will not fair ? I can't see any useful post on your history and no one merited you. It's seems your already ware signeture, that's mean you will spam on forum to fillup managers requirement. How how you will get merit. In order to become Legendary you must be earn 1000 merit.  Forget complain and start make quality post.

So, by not having XXX000 merits, you can't post or participate in the forum?  Roll Eyes If you can't make decent posts then live with the lower rank. It's not the end of the world.

I don't understand the part about getting nuked as a newbie.  Is that a spambot-preventative tactic that mods have that isn't there for Jr. members and above?
As far as I know:
-any Mod can nuke a Newbie. Nuke means ban + delete all posts.
-only higher ranking (global?) Mods can ban anybody, but posts won't be deleted unless the Mod does that manually.

Just to add to that, as I understand it, all mods can nuke a newbie but only the global mods and admins can ban anyone above newbie. So it isn't just cleaning up the mess the spambots make but once they make it to Jr. Member that puts more work on very few people to deal with them.

Is it fair? Sir Thymos.
LOL at this idiocy and outrage at a meritocracy.
I seriously think there should be a minimum merit requirement to become a Junior Member. Maybe require just one or a few merit, because far too many shitposters are becoming Juniors including spam bots and once they hit Junior the accounts can't be 'nuked' which is annoying.

And I fully agree with you about requiring at least 1 merit for the newbie-->jr. member transition.  Even if they were to manipulate the merit system for that, it would eat up merits that might otherwise be used to rank up higher-level members.  It definitely would be an additional, much-needed barrier.  Not sure if Theymos would go for it, but it's a great idea.

Requiring one merit would at least prevent spambots from getting out of newbie status and getting one merit shouldn't be that difficult for regular users.
Agreed!

Alternative: could nuking be extended to Jr. Member level? And in that case patrol should probably include them too.

If you can't earn at least the minimum amount of merit to raise up a rank within the space of two yeats then you probably don't deserve to be here to be honest. I find that it's actually quite easy to get merit as long as you put some effort and thought into your posts, but this is obliviously too difficulty for some people.

if you can make 1000 quality posts, most likely you will get enough merit at least for Full Member
and if only half of it gets 1 merit each, you will be Hero Member
but I doubt you are capable of making 1000 quality posts if you can't spell Theymos correctly Tongue

even with enough merits, you will need a couple months over 2 years to be a Legendary
that is if you lucky enough to hit Legendary random rank up between 775-1030 activity Wink

I have been wondering if there was anything one could do to earn merit
Let's see your post history: ~ parents ~ merit ~ world war 3 ~ Hitler ~ Politics & Society ~ Off-topic Bounty (Altcoins) ~.

Merit is working just fine!

I have been wondering if there was anything one could do to earn merit and go to a higher rank but from the look of things one just has to accept the present state of things with respect of merit award and hope that the rules will be tweaked eventually to give a shouting chance of moving up to low ranking members.

I have an idea. And what if the measure is not given by the participants themselves, but by special people. Something a kind of bounty managers on merit Cheesy. And the work of these gentlemen will consist in reading the messages and assessing their quality.
Your idea is already partially implemented on this forum. It is being carried out by merit sources (83) that complement our meriting capabilities by means of awarding sMerit (up to 19100 sMerit per 30 days). Concentrating all the meriting responsibility on merit sources, as you suggest, would render the system completely centralized, which goes against the system’s design principals. It would also overkill merit sources, since they perform a voluntary task, not a job, that requires plenty of patience and time.
Last but not least, your idea would mean less eyes to evaluate posts, so really less chances of being spotted if you come up with a decent post.

Note: the task of awarding merit is nothing like that of a bounty manager: one is after quality and the other usually after quantity, with few exceptions.

You are living on a cruel world already so any thing is fair and regarding to your question, there is a possibility that you will remain a Junior member or maybe a Member with 1000 activity. It depends on how you will post.

I have stated this when the merit system was implemented last january and I know that this will happen. Maybe those accounts who are being used for reports of bounty campaigns are the ones who will experience this in the future.

Maybe you can change "thymos" into "theymos"

It totally depends upon your real quality of your threads.
I am just thinking if by 1 to 2 years,I stayed on this forum and make contribution to this community but unfortunately no one give me a merit,

In reality, if you can publish 1000 constructive, high-quality threads, I believe you will certainly get hundreds of merits.

Yeah, merit system is very fair and only allows deserved users to rank up with their earned merits.

the ranking system in the bitcointalk forum has already been replaced. first to go up the rankings is very easy just by reproducing post in bitcointalk forum, so naturally if you find legendary with 1000 activity. with the new system, it will be very difficult to rank up and it is very annoying for newly joined forums.

I am sure 'Sir' Theymos will not like the way you deliberately spelt his name.

On a serious note your concerns are legit but is there really a possibility of anyone making 1000 quality posts without getting some of them merited? I doubt.
