Just a reminder about the FR node that I posted ... a while ago.

Some time between 04:00 and 05:00 UTC (in about 12 hours) the datacentre will take the node offline for about 5 minutes.
Since bitcoind isn't all that happy about being unceremoniously stopped, and can, on rare occasions, end up having to resync after an untidy shutdown, I'll be shutting the node software down just before 04:00 UTC until the datacentre work is done.

If you have a backup of DE or DK or even Vegas then you'll continue mining on the pool without any down time.
However, I will also redirect FR DNS to DE about half an hour before 04:00 UTC
The DNS TTL Is only 10 minutes so half an hour is enough.

This will mean that your miner will switch over to DE when I take FR offline just before 04:00 UTC
Once the datacentre has finished whatever they are doing, and I've restarted the node software, I'll switch the DNS back.
Thus when your miner next disconnects and reconnects some time in the future after that, it will connect back to the FR node.

I'll post again here once I know it's all been completed.

Edit: the times were EDT not UTC, so I added 4 more hours to correct the UTC values
FR has now been repointed to DE
FR will go down in about 15 minutes and anyone mining there will switch over to DE or their backup.
I'll post again once it's all complete.

So isn't it just a matter of replacing the cgminer that comes with the new S9 with a copy without this extra protocol?

Im really pissed if this is the true and how the Hell can they even think people would accept this kind of behavior  Angry
I allready wrote BITMAIN to make them confirm if this is false and why they made a hack in the software.

I wrote the full details there:

"to Bitcoin/we Bitcoin" is now a verb-freaking hilarios on reddit/youtube (Conan's show with a Silicon Valley show lead character).
warning: HR nightmare and wholly inappropriate. New meaning of "debit/credit", "cash" and "bitcoin"
take it easy...it is just a joke.

and... nobody's house is on fire yet.

I ordered 1 unit and probably so did thousands of other miners worldwide, the first lot of B1 already sold out ...

Other than outdated cgminer, I don't think there is a pool-hack or jiggyrig in their codes, but the default pool upon setup is likely same as  other "S" miners.

Putting in R&D dollars to get to 16nm chip manufacturing is also a multi million dollar question - I am sure they want orders to come in.

Best is to get real life results in before we call in the calvary, so take chill pill.

Shipping starts June 12 - I hope I can get mine first, because I live in Singapore and paid DHL to send it to my doorsteps.

Thanks for that. I couldn't get to that bit of info for some reason, and you've nailed it. It's what most of us thought.

Dont get me wrong though... I am no Bitmain fan, blah, blah, blah.... I am too, very anxious to get the S9 pointed to kano pool and see it for myself ; kano said this "extra stratum - multi-miner- commands" is big no no when connecting to the pool and that is enough to raise the red flag IMO - until then we need real life results to confirm this, otherwise it's business as usual.

.... meanwhile, where are the blocks!!!!???

oh ya.... with 6 blocks on 4th June.... forgot that we already passed our "normal average" of 4-5 blocks per day.  Grin

EDIT: Kano's post re the stratum sending garbage was what I had missed (but what I had pretty much figured out anyway), and it explains everything...and why I won't buy one. If I can't mine here, I won't mine.

Block by 17JVLWMAk with his 22nd Kano Block!  Cheesy

That's the 6th block today!  Cheesy

I'm loving it...even the measly six S3s are now generating enough (here at home...I've got amps to cover those) to cover my power costs on the S7s in the datacenter.

I'm just goofing about with the dogsled thing...I've been to Labrador and know full well the weather's quite nice there this time of year.  Cool Gotta have something facetious to hang onto, having almost 14TH idle with spot at $570+.

C'mon, dogsled!

I would wait until someone actually has one to pass judgement.
Just speculation here.
They may just have the config file locked in the linux filesystem. I have seen an S7 in that state. If you have root access you can fix the permissions.
I don't think they will pull root access.

Hey, just got a keepkey, slick little bugger.

Yup...the last two S7s I got (Batch 16) came with Antpoo as the default first pool, etc. but were not locked, nor anything out of the ordinary in that respect...so, who's actually got an S9 and kicked the tires/lit the fires toward ckpool?  Undecided

Indeed...but, like I said...who's got their mitts on one now, and has tried to point it to kano.is? I don't think I would particularly trust any reply from them...and that's if it even remotely addressed your actual question (ie., I've had comms with them before, and it wasn't necessarily pretty).

Gave in to my dogsled angst and put my last two S3s back online whilst waiting for the S7s to hit the datacenter...

OK...can someone give some solid feedback on this S9 code thing? I have a bit of difficulty wrapping my brain around a corp doing something like what is being suggested...which would keep any reasonable person from buying. Who has actually got their hands on one of these and fired it up? Wha' hoppened?  Cool

KANO, are you saying that I just wasted my BTC on 5 x S9`s since they cant mine at CK ?
If so, I have to write BITMAIN. I do not want to be forced to mine at crappy Antpool.

'The right to privacy matters'
If I want to mine here with the 2x s-9's   looks like I point them to nicehash  24/7/365 and rent back from nicehash on larger spot rentals.

It works but is convoluted.

Please fire your translator. I didn't understand even one point you are trying to make.
Sorry but I have none, and had no privilege to be educated in English.
Maybe instead you make some effort as my writing can't be that bad.

My point is simple: I think that most of Antpool miners are unaware of pool choice nor reason for change. Nothing to do with making a stand.

I understood your original point just fine.  I'm sure your English is better than me writing whatever your native language is.  Maybe better than my English Smiley.

I got it just fine the first time as well...but did have to work at it a bit. That's OK, as it was worth the effort. I happen to agree, basically...perhaps because I've spent so many years in user support  Cry  and find that most folks are not particularly inclined to actually understand why their particular thingy (tablet, laptop, miner) does what it does, but just want it to "do its thing" when they plug it in. I can see quite easily how someone could take any unit out of the box, plug it in, and not even know what pool it's mining to other than they had to get their logon right. OTOH, I also happen to fall in with Kano's pointing out the issues that BiteMe continues to create for itself.

I rather enjoy this forum for the reasons you noted as well...(mostly  Roll Eyes ) intelligent discourse from folks who have more of an investment in BTC than just cash...and I find out what I need to know on important issues quickly, and it's usually already vetted.
