But I rather contest last longer then 1 or 2 days.  the way it is now it is a short time and will almost never go as long as 1 week.

Ah, that makes sense.  I don't really care either way or even how long it lasts.

I am more concerned about encouraging lots of rented hash due to the withholding potential (seller of hash has no stake in the pool success and can withold blocks while collecting a PPS rate).  So far I see no evidence this has been done in the wild, but it certainly is possible.  Those of us who don't rent for the contest would pay the price as our % goes down.

yeah that has always been a problem as any rental can be rigged to toss away a share above  current 120 diff.

Dark Passenger Bitcoin miner 2013,Bitcoin node
I pay for confirmation after one block if i am in a hurry or slide it far left and for a twenty five block wait in the end i am glad bitcoin core gives me that option, PS: I am glad the contest rules were set ahead time, and very glad with pay scheme of this pool,

Dunno then. I sent about 5-10 transactions every day on average and have not had anything hang up in many months.
I send using 5block confirmation as extra. It's so little, who cares..

Gotta love this contest, makes it all more fun! Cheesy
If you're going to change the rules, you should look at the average hashrate numbers.
As it is now, you're better of pointing your miners elsewhere before the contest (to lower your average), and then rent a couple of PH/s at the start of the contest.
You would still be below 250TH/s on average.

Looking at the total hashrate average AND a max 250TH/s per shift, would probably do the trick.

For the record, I did not do this, I rented about 200TH/s from the start of the contest, just saying its possible with current rules.

I'm really happy to support the Kano pool because Kano and CK are so conscientious about doing everything they can to avoid empty blocks and fighting SPV mining but I'm starting to think bitcoin is heading towards disaster.  You can't even do a simple bitcoin transaction without having to wait hours for the first confirmation to take place.  It's getting to the point where it's painful to use bitcoin for anything other than just collecting it and wait for prices to go up to cash out.

How can you pay for a cup of coffee at Starbucks with BTC and wait for 2 hours for a confirmation before they can give you the coffee?  Something has to give here before bitcoin can be used as a mainstream currency but it's heading in the wrong direction.  You can't even exchange bitcoin between two bitcoin entities anymore without waiting for hours.   Angry

If you don't send it with ZERO fees, you won't have to wait...

I have not had a confirmation take more than a few minutes in MONTHS.

I sent a 0.5000 BTC transaction this morning with a 0.0002 fee and it still took hours.  That's what it's coming to, to use the best currency system since sliced bread you have to slip in more and more bribes to grease the skids or it gets pushed to the bottom of the pile.  It is getting worse and worse with all of the zero transaction blocks being pumped into the system.

Imagine holding the line at a busy Starbucks for 10 mins to get first confirmation  Huh As of this posting, over 15 mins w/o any block.

The Lightning Network, and similar side chains being developed, will likely enable Bitcoin to have  instant, high-volume micropayments.

The above Idea gave me an idea. Kano just picks a Future block number and the miner that hits that block or the first one after it wins the miner. Boom.

Mai Dee.

Sorry if I sound harsh, but can we let Kano keep HIS giveaway the way he has decided to run it? And can the newbs stop trying to change things here?

Thank You  Lips sealed

Perhaps the contest could be done randomly during the month. Kano would pick the start end time and the block found during that time wins it. This would prevent those from cheating the system. No one would know the time period other then kano and perhaps 1 of the guys at the top of the hash power list as they are out anyway. Another idea would be to time a timeframe and all those that find a block get a bonus amount of btc and at the end of the month they can either turn that bonus in for a drawimg ticket or keep the btc bonus. Amd then 1 person is selected at random those that enter.

The miners could also be out up for a drawing/raffle and every X btc buys you a ticket. With an X number of ticket max per person. This could increase funds for kano to inturn get more miners to raffle.

Instead of changing the rules completely, how about keep them the same but add one little part.

When you find the block you must maintain at the very least an average hashrate equal to what you had when you found the block or equal to the red line for a week. If you rent your hashrate then you would need to ensure you maintain that rental and keep a steady hashrate towards the pool.

This would work great until the day a person wins the Avalon and then his internet goes down for 4 days...not only does he lose 4 days of BTC earnings but he also loses a free Avalon6!  Cheesy

well nicehash could crash

hash rate could jump from .0045 to .0085

Or a guy may have scrapped up .1  and put it all on the line  wins and has no more coin to spend on rentals for the next week.

I can see some justice with your idea   if someone rented 1 ph and hit in an hour or two of the rental.   as some could have been gaming the system doing just that.

Lowest CDF - I wonder who will rent a PH or two for 5 minutes after every block find?

Highest CDF - Some already rent to crack those blocks.

Neither will improve rented hash.

I personally don't see a need for a change.  This month was quick, but it could just as easily have gone on for several blocks and/or days with the top miners (who are above the contest threshold) hitting most of the blocks while we wait.  I'm not opposed to a change either... whatever is fine with me.

no it won't ever last more then 1 week with current rules. (at least 1000 to 1 to last a week)
ph break down for last contest done with lazy math
---------------------------------------------------
8ph = big boys

10ph = people that could win.

10 ph hits a block every 13 or 14 hours
---------------------------------------------------
so to go 1 week would be a 99.99 cdf block
1 day  would be a 70. cdf block

all very loose math in my head.

But not far off.

I let my rentals play after the contest as I am going with team Kano

But I rather contest last longer then 1 or 2 days.  the way it is now it is a short time and will almost never go as long as 1 week.

I agree, if we make the contest for a winner to be lowest CDF (person brought us the greatest luck) or highest CDF (person saved us), both are good choices.  That also make the contest more fun and last the entire month vs a few hours.  It also help reduce our pool member's cost for those who do very high TH rental in the hope to win during that peak period which also would drive up the renting rate making everyone a loser.

Interesting idea but you generally dont want to change the rules of a contest in the middle (especially after someone already received a reward).

I see what you mean about the rules, but each month could be classed as separate contests. As long as the rules are changed in advance and people know, then they can choose to take part (or not). I think most people would be ok with it (well I would at least).

Perhaps kano could offer a voting option, although his decision is final so this just gives an idea on user preference.

His pool his give away his rules.

Next contest starts March 1 so  plenty of time for the new rules.

Low cdf for a month  or high cdf for a month both work for me.

In fact whatever one he picks and he said low cdf   I will toss in  a two compac stick giveaway for the other one.
