And I pity the people who invest in something that got promoted by a celebrity.

It's not that I don't care that people lose their money because they very easily fall under the influence of celebrities, but obviously for the majority of those who want to invest their money, it is very important that someone else be the one to decide for them, because in case of failure, they will blame someone else more than themselves.

It's all a bit funny to me sometimes, because it seems to me that just one announcement from a famous person can convince thousands or maybe even millions to do something that has no logic at all. But in the market there have always been those who act like wolves, and those who act like sheep - and we all know how the latter end up when they play with wolves.

~snip~

Are you sure you understand what this is about? KR did not mention Bitcoin or blockchain, and all this other talk has nothing to do with decentralization, and it is even less "amazing" considering that at least 9 out of 10 of these projects will end badly for investors.

Well, he is amazing too! It's really true, the idea behind blockchain and bitcoin is awesome and that is the reason why I am involved with it, I have seen how amazing it was, and joined right away as soon as I learned. The decentralization of currency itself is something beyond understanding, like that alone is super and should be promoted to everyone.

The fact that our money has been centralized so much so far is not acceptable and I deny using something like that. I rather have bitcoin which can't be controlled by anyone, and I do not mean the price, price could be manipulated, I mean bitcoin itself, that's the key to our success and our future.

Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves talks about cryptocurrencies, NFTs, metaverse, and much more, during the promotion of John Wick 4, saying the principle behind cryptocurrency is amazing.
Last June Keanu Reeves launched Futureverse Foundation with Fluf world NFT along with artist Alexandra Grant. Regarding the foundation, Reeves stated it’s something his partner, Alexandra Grant, is really interested in, so he’s kind of riding her coattails.

“I helped set up the launch. We’re trying to take this technology that people are interested in and give opportunities to artists with different viewpoints,” the Matrix star added.

That is probably the reason why Keanu Reeves is shilling for cryptocurrencies now. After all, it's a capitalist world where each individual, despite them being celebrities or not, will pursue and endorse products they are involved with.

The most recent memory I have about Reeves and business is his participation on the Cyberpunk 2077 game fiasco. He was the poster boy of the game and a lot of expectations were created due to his participation, as he is seen in a very special manner by the audience. Anyway, it didn't end well for players who pre-ordered the game, paying a much more expensive price for the product, which was considered a failure due to the blatant number of bugs, glitches presented.

So, be careful with what celebrities endorse, even if it's Keanu Reeves. Cheesy

So, Keanu joined some NFT shitcoin project and now shills for cryto and NFT. That's a bit sad, because Keanu has a reputation of being a very kind and genuine person.

But frankly I don't care what Keanu says about crypto. He's not an economist, cryptographer, mathematician, programmer, social scientist. He's just a famous actor. His opinion on crypto is as valuable as opinion of Kim Kardashian.

And I pity the people who invest in something that got promoted by a celebrity.

I think for Meta, it's a buzz show. Mark just announced about the "meta verified" thing and someone has to pay from $11.99 - $14.99 depending on which is your choice.

As for Keanu, I like him and even liked him more now that he's open to the idea of cryptos. He didn't said something wrong and hating against it unlike the other known people that I've seen say something about crypto just to be relevant.

Is there hope for celebrities to someday become competent and knowledgeable about things like NFTs, crypto and metaverse on a broad scale? Celebrities tend to be a little isolated from technical details. Is there hope for this type of enthusiasm resulting in a positive experience with the technology?

Being successful in acting does not mean that you have to be above average intelligent or have a university degree, you just have to be good at what you do and you will have a lot of money. Celebrities have their place in the scheme of things, and I don't see why they should become experts in technical matters - because people who have money also have personal financial advisors who deal with technical matters.

I think actors and actresses are capable of learning just like any of us.  But I think it would be rare for a celebrity to be completely knowledgeable on cryptocurrency because their time isn't 24/7 like many of the members of the forum.

I believe Keanu Reeves knows things about cryptocurrency, one of the reasons why Keanu Reeves stated that the Principle behind Cryptocurrency is amazing.

If by celebrities, you mean those acting only in movies, then I guess we won't find a lot of them having much knowledge about the technology. But if we look at other sectors such as sports like football, basketball, boxing etc. then we can find that a lot of them are already involved with cryptocurrencies. Such as Cristiano Ronaldo partnering up with Binance to launch his NFT collection, and there are plenty of such examples.

For celebrities from Hollywood specifically, I think it will still take some time before they are totally aware of the technology and maybe learn a little bit about it too when it is way too popular among them.

It's really cool how he initially just seems pro-tech, and thus pro-crypto (he's amazed not just by cryptos, but by AI music, NFT art). And then suddenly he is against the metaverse, which means he is selective in what's good and what's bad. His description of it as cave walls without being able to look behind sounds a lot like Plato's allegory of the cave. I'm not sure if I agree with this comparison because the metaverse won't be obligatory and taking part in it means realizing it's superficial (unlike Plato's cave or Matrix), but I agree about the system of control part.
His comment on cryptos isn't very deep, but it's not bad either. I don't know the project he's into, but I hope it isn't something malevolent.

With FTX the issue was celebrities were being paid quite a bit of money to promote the concept of cryptocurrency/centralized exchanges without having any idea how they operate. They were just happily collecting a check. There isn't anything wrong with sponsorship deals, but perhaps they can be used to mislead the reputability of companies and celebrities owe it to people to exercise caution.

Of course, everyone should (if they care about their reputation) investigate what they are promoting, regardless of how much money someone has offered them for the job. Some people obviously never have enough money and will do anything to earn it even more, and while I was thinking about which other celebrities have participated in the promotion of things related to cryptocurrencies, I also remembered Matt Damon who appeared in a commercial for a CEX approximately 2 years ago. I didn't know the whole thing turned into a fiasco and CEX ended up deleting the ad, but critics say the message it was sending was just wrong.

Here's a good recap that includes the controversial video for those who want to watch it.

I don't see any issue with what Keanu Reeves is saying. He's not supporting a specific project, merely talking about the philosophy of crypto.

The article claims that he participated in his partner's project, that is, that he helped start it - but that is his personal matter and I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

Keanu Reeves are an actor and his partner is into NFT's, so his opinion on Crypto currencies are a bit biased. That said.... he rubbed shoulders with a lot of influential people in the technology industry and "The Matrix" was ground breaking when it came out. (Bullet time, was something brand new)  Grin

I know people look up to celebrities and any good opinions on Crypto currencies are welcomed, but then that person must be totally biased. When Elon Musk talk about Dogecoin or Shiba Inu... speculators listen and he influences the markets.... but if he says "Crypto will be in his new Tesla cars" ... competitors listen too... and that is what we want.  Wink

Imagine if Keanu Reeves says.. you can only pay with Crypto currencies, if you want to see his next movie before it's release date.  Grin

Everyone, including Keanu Reevs talks how amazing cryptocurrencies are and how they are capable of doing great things but no one talks exactly about Why? & How? in details. I think these celebrities just throw away memorized words. None of them talks why and how is crypto amazing, none of them talks about why and how are cryptos capable of doing great things, no one talks about why and how are cryptocurrencies able to change the future.

Imagine I am a person who knows nothing about bitcoin and someone comes up with: Bitcoin is amazing currency, it's unbelievable how huge potential it has to improve our well-being. The whole ecosystem behind it is just phenomenal.

Here is the problem. I understand that it's amazing but how is it amazing? What makes it amazing? Why is it amazing? This is a thing that no one explains.

Is there hope for celebrities to someday become competent and knowledgeable about things like NFTs, crypto and metaverse on a broad scale? Celebrities tend to be a little isolated from technical details. Is there hope for this type of enthusiasm resulting in a positive experience with the technology?

Cardi B, Shenseea, Lil Pump, Kim Kardashian. These people will never be able to assimilate any technical information but they are more successful in terms of fame and finances than all of us together Cheesy

Like the enthusiasm these celebrities are having all the time. To be frank the word of these celebrities could change many things in the crypto space. Just like what Elon did with his action but everyone knows he did for his own fun. However, these celebrities are involved with the crypto as investors considering they are not are billionaires like Elon so they would take up this in good way.

Moreover, various series and movies are already mentioning bitcoin all the time. Whether bitcoin is being shown in negative role or the positive one, it is at the end of series is getting published to everyone through OTT platforms and social media all the time.

Sometimes what celebrities are speaking about crypto may not be based on knowledge or perfect one but whatever comes out of their mouth is publicity to the fans.  Smiley

You could gauge someone’s intellect or at least try to ascertain how smart the person really is when the person speaks. I think you could tell if someone is of high intellect with the way they speak and act.
Asides his comments on cryptocurrency, his demeanor generally has been nothing but gentlemanly. No scandals that I’ve heard of, and people that happen to meet him wherever always leave him a 5 star rating for his behavior and manners.
I think his comments has some good solid points and I could easily rate his intelligence level at a much higher rate than a lot of celebrities who endorse whatever and whoever pays the right price. And yes, I think there is a glimmer of hope for some celebrities celebrities at least  to be somewhat knowledgeable in technical details.

I have a vague memory when it comes to celebrities and their opinions on cryptocurrencies, but it seems to me that most of them are not very expert when it comes to this topic. I know that some have been mentioned in relation to FTX, as well as that some have invested in various crypto projects, but this is not enough to give ratings and assess the intelligence of the actor in question. It is interesting that Bitcoin was not mentioned (at least as far as the quoted text is concerned), which perhaps best says that everyone wants something new with potential big profits.

Kevin O'Leary is a prime example of this, financial guy who was the prime cheerleader for FTX and received financial compensation from them. He was abundantly clear about his partnership, but of course he probably should have done a bit more research into what type of unstable business venture he was getting into (IMO all centralized exchanges are unstable).

I don't see any issue with what Keanu Reeves is saying. He's not supporting a specific project, merely talking about the philosophy of crypto.

He is an interesting person. Maybe he does not have very deep technological knowledge and understanding of technology, but he has a high intellect, he is intellectually developed, and he has his own opinion. How much it corresponds to reality is a question. Perhaps his worldview was strongly influenced by shooting in a variety of science fiction and post-apocalyptic films, and this leaves an imprint on thinking. But what is clear is that it cannot be denied that this is one of the possible ways for the development of events ...

I'm a fan of Matrix since and yep he is a smart guy and very humble as well.  But the idea of Zucker's metaverse land and wealth creation seems to re-hype the metaverse. All these are just virtual, it's not like you can rent it out as if it's a real property.

This interview is for his launch of the Futureverse. I hope he is careful enough not to fall for it and not gonna end up like Kim Kardashian or Tom Brady.

He's smart enough to know that cryptocurrencies can do awesome things, and recognized the metaverse's potential for wealth creation, but not on its utility to people and how can it help in a number of ways and not just enrich those who are into the metaverse. This man is the epitome of being a public figure IMO. He rarely speaks on such things but when he does, he poses a great understanding of it which is admirable. He mentioned that he supports his partner in what she does, but is also smart enough to not use his name in the cryptospace to create his own NFT for monetary gain.

Yeah, in the last days or so, Keanu Reeves has been in the forefront of crypto because of his statement.

And it seems that Keanu is intelligent as well, he might not be as successful as other actors, but perhaps he had investments from the money he earn from acting. And his idea to give back, and in any case, there are news that he runs a private charitable foundation, but he doesn't want to have his name attach on the organization itself.

Yes he is a pretty cool guy. He is very down to earth. Someone commented on how they met him in person and he is not unlike most snobby celebrities, he was very kind and friendly when they approached him in person.

He is also big on motorcycles. I think he has his own brand of motorcycles because there was
Some clip about him displaying them at a automotive show.
Best ones are those who has the knowledge about something and not simply one of those who does not but still claims negative thing bout that certain thing. Good thing that Keanuis a smart guy; rather than to not give a statement, he spoke what he has in mind. This industry is just amazing and interesting. Problems just arise with impressions created by different individuals. There are influencers who are pro cryptocurrencies and also those who are not. Whatever their ide is towards this industry, the way they would deliver it to their fans and audiences is the thing that would matter the most especially ones which are under this industry.

On a scale of 1 to 10. How intelligent could Keanu Reeves commentary on cryptocurrencies be rated? How would Keanu's intelligence level compare to commentary other celebrities and financial figures have made on bitcoin and crypto over the years?
