Completed, Great survey! Security is definitely a point we should all focus on in developing Bitcoin.

 thank you Smiley

Survey completed ! It was interesting survey though I never had any issue even before as I was already keeping my Bitcoins in different ways to secure them.Hope it will help to complete your project better way.

 thank you !!

Survey completed.

keep the coins safe and use a hardware wallet for example:

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/overview-bitcoin-hardware-wallets-secure-your-coins-899253

thanks for the link and your time. you like to see more secure and affordable hardware wallets .

The survey is really interesting and really puts the emphasis on the different ways you can go about keeping your bitcoins.

thank you that's exactly what i wanted to say in thesis a new bitcoin user should know exactly where he wants to store his first bitcoin.

there's an assumption here that to own bitcoins one needs a wallet, which is not the case.

it could be really useful if you can explain more ....

I just completed the survey. Thanks for reminding me that I've lost bitcoins due to exchange closures, wallet compromise, scams, and theft. Tongue

I personally got scammed back in 2013 while buying my first bitcoins. thank you for your time

done
I have already completed the survey and I think it's an interesting question

thank you  Smiley

Keeping it safe from hackers or any bad element may come to it. I have this feeling that it might as well be very in demand in the coming years so better keep them safe.

well it is a currency and it has value. so as long as it is worth something in fiat and it is being traded and used, you should keep it as safe as possible.
doesn't matter how much the demand is, the hackers and scammers are always at work!

exactly!! as we know we need a strong infrastructure on information security and Bitcoin is here to speed up the process . thanks for completing the survey.

The questions was easy to answer and I like the fact that you did not need to give any personal information. Some of the first questions should have made provision for multiple answers, but the rest was good. A survey should not take up more than 5 minutes to answer, or people will lose interest.

I would have liked to see a summary of the preliminary results at the completion of the survey to judge your answer against the rest of the people who completed the survey.

I hope you will post your thesis or the result of this survey on this forum.

Thanks for your feedback, sure the thesis will be posted even i'm interested to see what people think about wallet safety. thank you once again for your time.

Done!

 thank you Smiley

I've just completed your survey. I would also like to remind everyone that if you lose Bitcoins on a online service then it is your own fault. If you do not own the private keys, then the coins are not yours. I've never lost anything over the years (I think) and the only problematic thing would be a direct hack of my system. However, I do hope that the developers will either integrate better security options or that hardware wallets become cheaper.

thank you for completing the survey. Hardware wallets are becoming cheaper AFAIK the Ledgerwallet H.w1 is available for 18€.

I think that people do not realize that Bitcoin is very valuable until you lose it. Honestly, who would keep a lot of $ on a online service if it could get stolen easily? Offline options are the best for Bitcoins that you do not need at the moment, and a hardware wallet if you do.

Where is my ring of blades...
Dear fellow Bitcoiners,
I am an MBA student and currently doing my master's thesis about bitcoin wallet safety.
I have compiled a short survey of 12 questions for my thesis. The survey is completely anonymous. This survey is conducted purely for academic research purposes, it does not collect or require any personal information.
The results will be published with my thesis. My goal is to make this thesis to be useful and informative for new bitcoiners. Especially on topics of how to keep bitcoins safe and to understand the differences between bitcoin wallets.
