I thought it meant the smallest current division possible of a bitcoin? But yes, the person or persons hiding behind the Satoshi moniker could certainly be female, or include females. It wouldn't be the first time a woman chose a male pseudonym to get respect in a "boy's game."

I am myself a programmer with interests in diverse fields (from cryptography to high level app programming) and I am confident Bitcoin goes far beyond single person's capabilities. Satoshi = several people. And as noted already, Kim would not keep his mouth shut for this long.
