One or two chips would be a good use of funds right now. More than that and I'd probably be better off saving money and waiting on samples. I say this because I can get a lot of design completion from testing just one chip. More chips are better, always, but since some are coming for free before long that additional info about total power use and noise between ASICs is something I can likely wait on.

Umm, so what I mean is that right now if I had one chip then I could verify the ASIC data signals and result nonce receiver, and chip detection strategy and that would be enough work to get everything ready before more chips could be fully used in further study.

Back from Bkk. Have PIC chips and various parts. Will be working later today on a first test for programming firmware and analysing signals. Also, got really a nice looking heat sink from Bicknellski - much smoother and fine finish than the ones I have already, plus 2 small sets of heat sinks from China for K1.

Just after I left Bkk I got word that the scope had arrived. That caught me totally off guard as it was Sunday and I wasn't expecting it so soon. Seems DHL from China is super faasst, and they deliver on Sunday here. So... won't be picking that up til next time. So sad, as I'd have loved to get my hands on it already.

Case design is totally a part of the topic I agree. But the problem is that its such a complex issue in itself that it needs its own thread. This thread is mostly used for technical issues regarding the pcb design alone. To keep BkkCoins from having to dig through 100 posts on case design its time to start a new thread. I personally wanted to wait untill I had something physical to show.

BKK is gone till Monday... not really at all off topic as people looking to squeeze the K16 into something and this can be part of the design process considering it is DIY.

Yes I'll send them to BKKcoins to add them to the project as soon we have a working K16 board.

I think it was more of a precaution as long as you have that capacitor near each ASIC probably will be fine.
I would think about adding on next rev of the board though.

I like this case... was thinking off using it for a single GPU rig if i ever needed a proper case for it.

If you use raspi or linux router as the host, then fit more k16 instead of the motherboard. The sideways ventilation could be an added advantage.

For our more adventurous modders maybe this as well?

PICs and other parts have arrived so I'm off to Bkk again in a few minutes.
Will be back Monday morning with my goodies for playtime.

Also, a good chunk of the firmware is written but untested. The work send/result receive code has been tested by chaoztc using 2 PICs. Mostly what's left is I2C chaining code. Right now sitting at 6811 code and 805 data.

marto74  if you change the  location PSU,  that will fit in mITX standard housing like Fractal Design from picture above.

Neat... Do you have an off the shelf Mini ITX in mind? Or maybe BFL have a few left over cases they want to sell cheap considering they are not going to use them... just have to scratch off the old logo.
