I saw this https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.2345354
a few minutes ago.
I'm thinking to speed things out and to help BKK coins with testing
There is a member willing to sell 10 chip Avalonmodule for 14 BTC (1.4 BTC per chip)
I'm thinking if we all collect this ammount in an escrow ( let say John K.) if the seller is agree and module be shipped to BKKcoins?
I believe this way we may spare some time and to be ready for july/august delivery of the firs group orders from zefir.
What do you think?
One or two chips would be a good use of funds right now. More than that and I'd probably be better off saving money and waiting on samples. I say this because I can get a lot of design completion from testing just one chip. More chips are better, always, but since some are coming for free before long that additional info about total power use and noise between ASICs is something I can likely wait on.

Umm, so what I mean is that right now if I had one chip then I could verify the ASIC data signals and result nonce receiver, and chip detection strategy and that would be enough work to get everything ready before more chips could be fully used in further study.

----

Back from Bkk. Have PIC chips and various parts. Will be working later today on a first test for programming firmware and analysing signals. Also, got really a nice looking heat sink from Bicknellski - much smoother and fine finish than the ones I have already, plus 2 small sets of heat sinks from China for K1.

Just after I left Bkk I got word that the scope had arrived. That caught me totally off guard as it was Sunday and I wasn't expecting it so soon. Seems DHL from China is super faasst, and they deliver on Sunday here. So... won't be picking that up til next time. So sad, as I'd have loved to get my hands on it already.

Just my two cents when it comes to racks, I have been eyeing the eurocard form factor and some racks designed around it. I especially like what this guy has done http://vincentsanders.blogspot.com/2013/04/when-you-make-something-cleaning-it-out.html

We have a new thread for the topic of case design.

From now on if you have a case design idea for the Klondike 16 pcb please post here:

Hey all; can we take the case talk to another thread please?  The wood case looks cool, but it's a little OT.

BKK is gone till Monday... not really at all off topic as people looking to squeeze the K16 into something and this can be part of the design process considering it is DIY.

Case design is totally a part of the topic I agree. But the problem is that its such a complex issue in itself that it needs its own thread. This thread is mostly used for technical issues regarding the pcb design alone. To keep BkkCoins from having to dig through 100 posts on case design its time to start a new thread. I personally wanted to wait untill I had something physical to show.

Agreed. Time to do that I guess.

I started a new thread here for case design brainstorming:

I'm excited to see what the community will come up with!

+1

The case talk is interesting, but it DOES dilute this thread

Complete miner
8x K16 stacked on 4 200x100 heatsinks with fans and enclosure

Looks like you're using SW? If so, would you mind sharing your part/assembly files?
Yes I'll send them to BKKcoins to add them to the project as soon we have a working K16 board.
I did already sent a sample heatsink for single K16 to BKK for tests

Excellent. Would be nice to get some IGES renders of the PCB as well

Found some more info on GitHub in the commits tab.
"finished hash unit BOM"
It lists MB as magnetic beads quantity (11) 30 ohm at 100MHZ does not specify DC resistance.
That doesn't seem like much of a roll off. Most of the traces for AVDD on the K16 board are long enough that I can cut and patch one in if need be but I suspect it will be ok. No doubt the intent is to keep high freq. PLL noise from passing via the supply between the ASICs. I wonder how unstable it is and if it was put in out of necessity or just for extra precaution.
I think it was more of a precaution as long as you have that capacitor near each ASIC probably will be fine.
I would think about adding on next rev of the board though.

I like this case... was thinking off using it for a single GPU rig if i ever needed a proper case for it.

If you use raspi or linux router as the host, then fit more k16 instead of the motherboard. The sideways ventilation could be an added advantage.

Full enclousure 8 x K16 with PSU and space for linux router

Neat... Do you have an off the shelf Mini ITX in mind? Or maybe BFL has some cases they want to sell cheap... just have to scratch off the old logo.

Look very nice. I think here is many cases we can use.
marto74  if you change the  location PSU,  that will fit in mITX standard housing like Fractal Design from picture above.

For our more adventurous modders maybe this as well?

PICs and other parts have arrived so I'm off to Bkk again in a few minutes.
Will be back Monday morning with my goodies for playtime.

Also, a good chunk of the firmware is written but untested. The work send/result receive code has been tested by chaoztc using 2 PICs. Mostly what's left is I2C chaining code. Right now sitting at 6811 code and 805 data.

Interesting to look at the pics of the KNCminer boards in this thread:

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/kncminer-openday-wednesday-5th-monday-10th-june-214285

A lot less parts count than the Avalon or BFL boards. I believe it's the  6 GH/s device called Mars.

Different technology, different requirements. Could you not spam KnC stuff in this thread?

Might we just keep to the topic? Start a new thread to debate the pros / cons and observations of other builds especially those that could be scams.
