Not just to help the close users to rank up. That's a crystal-clear abuse to the system and that's not how Merits system should operate.

So According to your thinking process, if users deserve to rank up (he is online often, he post constructive post, he helps the forum) and you merit him since he is useful to the community, you consider an abuse.
Instead, you want to give the merit to a newbie with few posts, that maybe posts 90% of his post on bounties and spam the forum.

Do not worry, good newbies will be merited too we have a lot of cases.

The question now is, how can you criticize a donator member with almost 1k merit earned while you are a shitposter with 0 merit earned?

BTW nice use of your merit, this post is even worth 50 merits not only 14.

Current Merit system works specially for members encouragement where a good quality poster worthy of it. Lafu is one of them who's are really think about forum and Its users. Anyine can easily get their answer by seeing lafu's previous works that actually he deserve merits from one of our forum merit source to achieve near rank.

In my point of view its not looking unusual to me. We can put our attention to those issues where some users selling or abusing merits rather than rewarding someone for his/her quality works.

Qwk is a merit source, Lafu is very close to hitting legendary rank, probably he wants to help him to rank up.

Lafu is a trusted member of the community and he helps as he can the forum.

I see nothing wrong here, the "job" for merit source is to help members who deserve the new rank to rank up. (ideally with banking 0 merits at the end of the month as theymos said)

Instead of helping that member to rank up, there might be a newbie user putting a maximum efforts to help others.. IMHO, I think that newbies like this should be rewarded.. I am not against anything nor anybody here.. Everyone is free to do. Whatever he wants with his own merits.. But just try to be neutral and authentic.

Based on my review of theymos' comments on the matter, this is actually the preferred behavior, even if you assume the person deserves a lesser amount of merit.

Based on my review of your review you're full of shit as usual. Sending 5 merits each to 10 posts is better for the forum than 50 merits in one piece. The primary purpose of the merit system is to award good posts. Stop fucking around with it and harassing merit sources.

qwk & Lafu are respected, experienced members of the community. Absolutely no chance either of them are implicated in Merit abuse. If you’re looking to make a name for yourself OP then picking on OG’s is not the way to do it.

Nothing to see here, move along.

If you award too much merit, then there will be no real damage

I would not, on the other hand, award anyone with a single "Airdrop" of 50 merit in one go, for a simple reason: if I happened to stumble upon other posts from this person that I deemed worthy of merit, I might "over-reward" that user, which is something I definitely want to avoid.
Based on my review of theymos' comments on the matter, this is actually the preferred behavior, even if you assume the person deserves a lesser amount of merit.

If the person has shown they are deserving to rank up, theymos has explicitly said to give the maximum amount of merit to allow them to rank up.

If this is true, IMO there is no need to give merit to multiple posts of his just for the sale of giving a small number of merit for each post. qwk might as well review his post history and if he believes lafu is deserving to rank up, he should find one post and give it 50 (or however many) merit.
It is true that I looked a little closer at Lafu's posts because I saw him hitting the Legendary mark, and decided to be a little more generous with merit towards him.

Coinlocket$, what do you mean by this?

On OP, I see that there's nothing wrong here. Two of those members mentioned are reputable. And the merit sending is not on bulk and different people were merited by qwk and Lafu.
You can find the original quote of theymos here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/is-this-not-merit-abuse-really-5050263

If they complain about amounts, tell them to complain to me. It's best if sources try to exhaust their source allocations, even if it means giving posts higher amounts than is typical. If you have 150 source merit and you only see 3 merit-worthy posts in a month, then I'd rather you over-give each of them 50 merit than let the merit expire. That way there are more people capable of sending merit, and the "merit economy" is less top-down.

Theymos wrote somewhere he prefers to see a merit source using all his sMerit than see a merit source save (burn) An X amount of merit every month.

OP,
A little view of the delivery system (sMerit) and those who accept it, maybe the Forum members here often see this kind of thing, but not necessarily all that is seen is abnormal or wrong, what happens now I see Normal means, it can be said that the condition is not less or notmore. "in the middle".
Normal in artillery, shipping (sMerit) that is in accordance with the Forum rules that are appropriate, and while not deviating from forum rules.
In this case it also relates to the daily habits of the post that are considered reasonable by the sender (sM erit) certain.
this habit can be very "subjective," meaning that behavior becomes reasonable, valuation depends on how people view the post as appropriate
For me it is very difficult for this accusation to show abnormal behavior, if it is not accompanied by strong foundations, even unique behavior requires a lot of views and involves sensations and perceptions in shipping (sMerit)
Therefore, it is not that easy to define someone in giving (sMerit) or abnormal action.
Because everything in the forum lives with a system, has rules, and procedures, many people perceive a person's actions, that is a measure of the behavior of all members of the Forum, which is done naturally to someone without disrupting the system, forum rules willbut can be accepted by other members.

@OP

I never asked for get Merits !

I just try to help the Forum and new Users and other Users as well so far its possible for me !

If i get Merits for a post or an thread then sure its nice to see that because i know then the thread or the post has something good or helped somebody !

Sometimes you get Merits even you just give an ironic or funny Answer (Depends what you write and to who )

If i get or got no Merits for some threads or posts i dont care about and dosnt matter , i still continue try to help the Forum and Users !

As others already said too , qwk is an Merit source and its his one thing how he doing that as all other Merit sources have also there one way to doing that !

Sneaky bastard, somehow he evaded my query. Fixed.
Edit - to answer OP's question: yes.
