Kraken had a major trading engine upgrade at the beginning of January. Trades go through much smoother and connectivity is no longer an issue. Please try Kraken again and check out our new trading interface at trade.kraken.com.

All status updates are posted here https://status.kraken.com/ starting from the scheduled maintenance up to the present situation. Always check it to know if all issues were fixed.
There was even an article on Coindesk. They claimed they were dealing with a bug that required further testing. At least they're back online and doing fine.
