The launch time was bad. I think if he did this on a Saturday or Sunday it would have gotten a lot more responses. I have friends at work that that wanted to get in on this.

If you want 500 people to mine your coin, you start a pre-ann page two weeks beforehand to build some buzz and interest. If you want 500 people to take your coin for free, you still need a week to get the buzz and interest.
It was posted early to give everyone a fair chance of seeing the thread and be ready to register. As there are only 500 stakes, didn't want to post for example the day the reg opened and lots of people complaining they never had a chance.
