I don't think that there is such option for Barcelona like not caring about the Europa League this season. They didn't care about it too much in the previous season because they weren't in need of a huge amount of money. But now they need to make money from every opportunity. Maybe the incomes aren't as big as the Champions League there but Barcelona had better fight for even the title to earn as much money as possible. They have made many signings by spending a lot of money.
Xavi can still focus on the La Liga title first. But he shouldn't just put the Europa League aside. They are technically one of the biggest contenders for the title. If they make a similar effort to the one in the La Liga then they can surely win the title also.

A good coach won't consider any league or game not important . I doubt if Xavi will see the Europa league game not to be important. If Barcelona tries their best and do very well in the Europa league it is an advantage to them. If Barcelona don't take the Europa league serious it doesn't mean that will give them the chance to win Laliga easily. Not taking the Europa League proves sign of weakness. 
In La Liga, there are only a few games that are always a concern and are eagerly awaited. While the rest I often miss. Maybe the tension of the game from a club that doesn't really have much desire to survive and a lack of popularity also makes the game less fun to watch. Clubs that play other than Real Madrid and Barcelona I miss the most. I think some people feel it, and if they are not a Madrid or Barcelona fan they will often miss it too.

They may still loose to Espanyol, they are not the same Atletico Madrid that they we used to know, they have just been bad this season, just like their coach is out of ideas and the players tired of his playing pattern.
