That's probably one of the reasons why City signed him back from Barcelona. And also, i think the main reason is probably related to the decision of Barcelona to let him go for free. Moreover, Barcelona can't register Olmo without reducing their wages. Parting ways with Gundogan helped them a lot. And it gives Olmo a chance to play in the main squad as Barcelona will be able to register him in La Liga.

Sometimes it is not about the players you intend to sell but when in crises like the way Barcelona is you will just have to make some decisions and this is certainly one of them, first if I agree with post you quoted that De Jong should be the first on that rather than anyone, reason been that he is the highest paid player in the league which is certainly not a very good thing for Barcelona financially now, with Barcelona finding it difficult to register players I think his wage load would have been better used elsewhere since he is even rarely available.

Although I don’t blame the decision of the Barcelona board at the moment to actually let Gundogan go because Gundogan wanted out and he already has just a year left so the decision was already a easy one to make, they wouldn’t want to lose De Jong for free and no club currently want to buy an injured player a high amount and still pay that high wages

Barcelona are actually facing a higher financial issue right now that is affecting their team even though it can do a lot of damage to them more than what they think, but since they can’t afford other new players that will hold the midfield for them, I also think the best they need to do is utilise those that they already have, even if they do get injured due to the game, but I hope they will be able to be something for the team this season because for now they are not in a better condition than last season, but there is a possibility they might try more than last season or less than last season due to the conditions of the team and their performance.

Even though iIkay Gundogan is still physically strong enough to play with Barcelona until the end of his contract, financial problems made Barcelona act inappropriately by releasing him for free. Barcelona messed up big time by allowing IIkay Gundogan leave the club as a free agent. He terminated his contract for reasons best known to him and will always have a room to explore options. Manchester City will always have edge over their oppositions in the English Premier League because it's definitely a long competitive run for them. Manchester City coach, Pep Guardiola will reinstate the retired Germany international. He will play key role in the midfield of Manchester City this season.

Every player that comes to Manchester City should know what they are coming their for and they must have something to offer the club because with the kind of name that Manchester City have made name for them self and you seen the way Manchester City is always playing you as a player their will just do everything possible to offer something your self. Club matters a lot for players and it will be better for him to play for the city than for Barcelona because productivity matters a lot and if the club is not productive enough it will affect the performance of the players and that is part of the reasons that mbappe decided to go to Real Madrid for the benefit of his own career.
