Can we please hear from LabRat regarding getting listed on havelock??

...Maybe part of the reason LR doesn't think an exchange is a priority is the lack of bids/asks/price movement? ...

And maybe he's afraid of ending up in Erik Voorhees' / Ken Slaughter's shoes (selling unregistered securities).
Just a thought Cheesy

I see a lot of user names asking about an exchange but not posting any asks or bids in the forum trading post.  Why is that?  The more bid/asks in the post the better the liquidity of LRM.  Maybe part of the reason LR doesn't think an exchange is a priority is the lack of bids/asks/price movement?  If you're going to complain about no exchange but have no skin in the game right now, it seems a bit hypocritical. Put your contracts/BTC where your mouth is and post some bids/asks.

Right now, Colored coins are great for proof of ownership, complete shit for asset management and exchanging.
Fair enough, I'm a bit behind on where things stand in that regard.

Making these existing contracts tradeable (i.e. on a secondary market) should not be a problem.  Heck, they already are on this forum.  I think coloured coins or similar is the way to go.  The damage (legally, for LR) was done when this thing IPO'd.

LabRat ... can we please be listed on Havelock!

I think from previous statements LRM isn't able to run any type of trading platform for legal reasons.  The real question is would LRM support someone who did list the asset somewhere, or would it immediately be DOA?

Two news stories from today involving bitcoin security offerings and hosted mining companies:
"Eric Voorhees Faces $50,000 Fine Over Unauthorized Securities Sale"
http://www.coindesk.com/sec-eric-voorhees-deal-unauthorized-securities-sales/

"Missouri Secretary of State Halts Mining Business Over ‘Deceptive Tactics'"
http://www.coindesk.com/missouri-secretary-state-halts-mining-business-deceptive-tactics/

LRM is not close to being as bad as those two (Voorhees blatantly had an IPO of an unregistered security; VMC was intentionally deceptive); I think LRM doesn't have to worry about this stuff. It's close, but it should fall on the "safe" side.

(Perhaps my idea of a data center is different to others, so as a brief explanation I am an IT consultant that deals with small to medium businesses from around 10 to 600 PC's.  This has allowed me to work in a number of small and large data centers and numerous small business server rooms.  Small business server rooms can range from downright crappy to quite elaborate, however all data centers I have worked in have at least visually looked quite similar with rows of server racks and the above mentioned fit outs.)

Nope, your idea of a DC is pretty much the general population's idea of one Smiley

I think the carpet helps mask the tiny screams of agony from all the hardware every time the difficulty goes up...

Is it just me... or was anyone else expecting to see a "data center" when looking at these pics?  All I see is someone's spare room or even living room?   It doesn't really bother me too much as providing it doesn't burn down it will still produce the same hash output...   But, calling it a data center makes it seem like it is in a building designed for computers with racks, secure access (theft resistance?), fire suppressant systems, proper power backups, resilient internet connections, all humidity and climate controlled... you get the idea.
To me it just looks like a decent setup in someone's house, flat or apartment.  (I like the giant fans behind each wire rack!, were they turned on?  Or just there in case of air-con failure?)

The locations are pretty nondescript from the outside -- industrial(ish) strip mall spaces.  A "real" datacentre (with "a building designed for computers with racks, secure access (theft resistance?), fire suppressant systems, proper power backups, resilient internet connections, all humidity and climate controlled) would run in the millions and take a lot of time to build.  You can rent space from established operators, but the power requirements for mining are absurd when compared to general server operations.  Operating in rented rack space in an established DC host would likely (and I'm pulling a number out of my arse, here) increase monthly costs by a factor of 10.

I didn't post the pictures I took of the AC units (and I only have pictures of the interior blowers, as I didn't take exterior pictures for obvious reasons) because they're even more boring than the hardware pictures.  But there is significant cooling that was added to each of the two locations.  And there was a *lot* of Bitfury hardware, although it may be hard to judge.  There is also an out-of-state DC that I didn't get to see that has a lot of the newer hardware.

So, for my part, not really too surprised.

I wasn't expecting Labrat to build a data center...  And as I said, as long as it works it makes no difference to me.  But the fact that it had been called a "datacantre" made the picture in my head significantly different to what the photo's showed and I obviously made the wrong assumption he was renting rack space.

I find it humorous that LostDutchman slammed LRM's contract partly on the basis of grammar and misspellings, while the organization he puts in his sig (that leads to Quickstopcorporationshop.com) has a bunch of this on their webpage.  Does he criticize them as well?

Creative spellings:
"cyrpto"?  "siginificantly"?  "ecorporation"?

Interesting grammar:
"It my own assets"
"a corporation is a separate legal entitities"
And the best of all: "in order to preserve the insulation from liability".  Wow. Can insulation be sued?
Smiley

Yeah, my webguy sometimes isn't much for proper English but I will fix it.

Thanks for pointing out the errors and you have a good day, OK?

yeah, not quire what I was expecting. A data center with carpeted floors?

I mean, if it works, it works. Also, pretty amazed by how little hardware there is. It makes sense based on our hash-rate and the hardware types, I just had a picture in my mind of them spanning a larger amount of space.

Not saying anything negative, just wasn't what I pictured.
