Would it be helpful if I showed the price separate from the QR code?
While it can be seen by hovering over the QR code, it's not very intuitive. I think that showing the price would be a good idea.

Regardless, fantastic idea for a service. I may be giving this a try some time. One question however, what are your policies with logs?

Sorry for the wait. Showing the price is live now: https://launch.sporestack.com/

Had to update bitcoin-fiat.js: https://github.com/coinfee/bitcoin-fiat/commit/64a37a4ca7f5de715d479d9ae5e0450045f37319

Change to the launch site is here, if you are curious: https://github.com/sporestack/launch.sporestack.com/commit/e30a8a6de8da1a5bdc825bc94e792d270a935696

Please let me know what you think. Thank you!

Thank you! I'll work on adding that.

On launch.sporestack.com and sporestack.com I have basic logging of what the server is doing (mainly sending metrics/statistcs). Also user agents and HTTP referrers. I don't log IPs.

The VPN server itself is spun up with this profile/script: https://github.com/sporestack/node-profiles/blob/master/vpn.json

The OpenVPN configuration file doesn't have any settings where it is configured to log. I haven't thoroughly checked and validated that absolutely nothing is logged, but I doubt anything would be. The server is your own and you can validate it. When it expires, the whole server is deleted. I see it as very low risk and less likely to draw attention than known VPN hosts which share servers and IPs.

How much does it cost? It is not stated on the website itself.

The QR code has the amount embedded in. If you go to pay you should see the amount before you accept. You can also hover over the QR code to see.

It usually ends up being about 40-50 cents for a single day. Your wallet may have notably transaction fees to go with that, however.

I need for win10, what are the prices? I mean what does it take to have a decent vpn without limitation? not that I want to download a lot but only normal browsing the websites blocked in my country.

It's about 10 USD for 28 days, but the price is currently fixed in Bitcoin, so will vary with the exchange rate. I think the most bandwidth you can use is about 30GiB per day.

You'll want to install the OpenVPN client here: https://openvpn.net/index.php/open-source/downloads.html

Then select the nearest datacenter here: https://launch.sporestack.com/#vpn

You'll see the price in the QR code. May want to start with one day to live to make sure you can get it working. After that, can try a week or 28 days.

You will have to renew it after that period, it's not on a subscription.

Let me know how it works out for you. Thanks for your interest!

Thank you everyone for your feedback and support!

I just rolled this out with SporeStack: https://sporestack.com/launch/vpn

You can run:

Code:
sporestack spawn --launch vpn > openvpn.ovpn
sudo openvpn-client openvpn.ovpn

You can tweak the lifetime with --days, from 1-28. 1 is the default.

Let me know what you think.
Is it based on OpenVpn ? Correct me but aren't those available for free once you configure it on your desktop? The modules are based on python which I don't have installed, can you try to make one for npm (node) ?

It is based on OpenVPN. I am not aware of free OpenVPN services, but you can certainly give them a try. I would imagine the performance and isolation of them may not be very great.

Eh, rewriting it in node would be a ton of work. But I did just launch a web client with Javascript here: https://launch.sporestack.com/#vpn

You can see it in action on Android:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oktTwmujUtI

This should be much easier for most to use. It's new and rather delicate, but works from my testing. Be patient and don't leave the page until you've saved the configuration file.

Let me know how it works out for you.

This is really cool. Using Bitcoin for anonymity, what Bitcoin was meant for.
Kudos and keep developing!

Yes it is based on openvpn. I have only used those free vpns once and the speed was very bad.
With SporeStack you instantiate your own personal vpn, so the speed is very good.

Hi,

Actually i'm interested to get some good VPN.

I'm using now VPN, but in last days i met person that show me my localisation (correct - under VPN).

I will take your proposition if you give me 2 - 3 days vouch copy (all depends on time cooperation [maybe 1 day will be enough]) and i will test it with my friend.

If this VPN will be good i will pay you really good price!

What do you think about that?

Unfortunately, my phone was not able to read the qr code.

Thanks for trying it out!

So QR codes seem to only work as black on white. I have it set to print out a normal QR code and a reverse, in case you have a normal or reverse terminal.

Did neither QR code work for you? They should be flashing in opposite colors, about 2-3 seconds apart. I may need to adjust the timing or make some other change.

Ok, I did not notice the screen flashing because I had to resize the window and scroll. I scrolled down a bit and saw the black on white QR and was recognized by my phone. I did not pay because I have no time to try it now, maybe I will try later.

Okay, I think this should be a lot better for you now. Can you run pip install sporestack --upgrade to upgrade your client? 0.3.4 should have it so that it only prints the QR code once and it works on normal or reverse terminals, at least from my testing.

If you have to scroll, it should be easier to do so without killing the command.

Thanks!
