They provided me with a prepaid DHL shipping label so I only had to schedule a pickup. They didn't send me any details about the problem; they just shipped a new device. Before receiving the label, I recorded a video which clearly showed the issue.
Thanks for sharing at least they handled it. I was actually curious about what companies will do when they have shipped a defective device. Probably they are doing some routine failure analysis on the shipped device or something. I haven't tried any Trezor device yet.

However, problems like this should not happen, and it is to be assumed that Ledger installed a certain percentage of defective batteries in the model X. If we know that most of the components are made in China (the body of the device), then the battery is probably "made in China" also.
Because it's cheaper to let it be assembled there. I don't know about these days though with all that's happening. Probably a lot of manufacturing delays or something.

Even without any defects or issues the lifespan of the Nano X's battery is probably 5, maybe 7 years tops.  I don't know if Ledger plans on having a service available to replace the battery, or everybody might be better off if they just offer a discount to those who's battery has served it's purpose.  Like Lucius alluded, however, the device can still be used long after the battery dies, just by plugging into a computer or a power source.
Probably a discount would be favorable or probably send in a new device just pay for the shipping, lol.

Huh.  I'm kind of happy that the S doesn't have a battery that can go dead.

Unlike BitCryptex, battery on my Nano X shows no such problems. But the battery is only needed when using the device in combination with Bluetooth, which is only possible with the mobile version of Ledger Live. In any other situation, an ordinary cable can be used to connect to a PC or OTG cable for wire connection, and the battery does not play any role in that case.

Oh dang. That's just sad. Is it up to you to ship them the device? What does it say on the warranty?

Wouldn't you kind of expect that?  Not that I know much about the Nano X's battery, but I have a variety of power banks for emergencies, and they don't tend to lose much charge even after a few months.
I did kind of expect that but I kind of forgot that feature. I mean most batteries that I have experienced maybe could stay around 80% but I don't know.

Anyway, I'm hoping to own a Nano X one of these days, but as I've said in other threads I can't seem to justify the purchase when the S is working just fine for my needs.  I'm not that into altcoins and I don't think an X would offer much advantage to me--but glad you're liking it, OP.
Thanks. If you are into traveling with your Ledger and just have your phone, you could transact using that. I can't really say for your use case but I think you could take advantage of that.

I had exactly the opposite experience than most of you. I have returned my Nano X twice due to faulty battery. Both devices were discharging at nearly 1% per 1 second which is definitely not a normal behaviour. At least, the support handled the return quite fast. Despite that, the device felt pretty solid and I would use it more often if I didn't have a Trezor T which is more convenient to use.

I mean, it's over a month already + the quarantine where I didn't use the device up until now. I was surprised that it's up by 94% battery remaining.

Can you use the mobile application with both the Nano S and Nano X to simply view your balances?  I know you can only send/receive via the mobile app with the Nano X.

If you are using Android OS 7+, then for over a year you can also use Nano S + Ledger Live mobile to send transactions, not only to check balances. That restriction has existed for a while, and although some have seen it as a dirty move from Ledger (to sell more Nano X), however, it was only a technical problem that took some time to resolve.

Ledger is thrilled to announce that the Ledger Live Mobile app has gone into full production today. Android 7+ users can now use their Ledger Nano S with their smartphone to not only check the balances of their crypto assets, but transact with them as well.
Due to technical limitations, iOS users can only use their Ledger Live Mobile app in consultation mode, meaning that keeping an eye on one’s balances is still possible.

Question...

Can you use the mobile application with both the Nano S and Nano X to simply view your balances?  I know you can only send/receive via the mobile app with the Nano X.
Yes. I only have the Nano S and I use iOS, so there is a limitation by Apple that doesn't let people use the device plugged through the lightning port (and only the Nano X has bluetooth), so I just use it to view my balances.

To do that, in Ledger Live, go to Settings, Accounts and select "Export accounts"). Then, go to your mobile app and scan the QR code that keeps changing. This will create a watch-only version of your wallet in the mobile app. This means that you can also receive coins in your wallet (but without the proper security, since the app can be tampered somehow), so you should be careful with that.

Appreciate the confirmation.

As for the different use cases of everyone here, for sure it would be different if you experienced having one. You may not really need it but the portability and accessibility it gives is a blessing to have when you support crypto. Using your mobile phone with the manager is helpful too. OTG is okay but you have to carry an extra cable.

Where do you get free or discount codes? Or this is given to old customer for the purchase before?
That's right. If you bought directly from Ledger, gave them an email address, and have "opted in" to receive updates and promotions from them, then they periodically email out discount codes for either you to use or to give out to others.

I wrote something about the Nano X when I bought it, you might find it helpful : Ledger Nano X - Review of the package.
Oh thanks. Once I purchase mine I will use your guide for the actual set up and of course as beginner probably I will have some query on it once Ive touched the device.

Some offer a percentage discount and some offer a flat discount, so figure out which one works out best for you. The codes in that link offer either 20% or $25 off, but they may well have been used by now.
Wow thats a huge discount $25" off is a lot too. Thanks, maybe I will open up a thread once I am ready to purchase. But why is the guy asking for codes here? Where do you get free or discount codes? Or this is given to old customer for the purchase before? Anyway thank you. I am gonna make sure to have a code for that huge less.

I can do uninstall/install my whole life to save 150 usd lol

Lol.  That's it right there.  I mean how long does it take to uninstall one app and install another?  20 seconds?  Unless your time is SO valuable that a few seconds of your life are worth more than the difference between the two, then there's nothing to worry about.

This is a good point. For all the time I have had my Nano S I have never needed to carry it with me to make a transaction somewhere on the go.
I've taken mine on 3 week long vacations before... used it a couple of times as I was able to buy some gift cards for the missus to get some online retail therapy when we were in North America Wink

And I have an OTG cable for my phone, but I've never used it while actually "on the go".

I also have an S that is the backup clone of the X and kept in a separate location. Always good to have compatible backups.
This is why I have the Trezor ONE. So, if the Nano S or the Trezor ONE breaks or is lost... I can easily access my funds using the other device without needing to wait for a replacement.

If anyone is considering purchasing a Nano S or X, I signed up for their newsletter and the next day they sent me an offer.

It does not appear to be a unique code, so sharing here for others to use.  I used it on the Ledger Backup Pack and Ledger Nano S in a single order and it took 20% off the total price.

Your Promo Code:

WELCOMEAPRIL

Here's how it works:

Add any of the following product to your cart products to your cart: Ledger Nano X, Ledger Nano S, Ledger Backup Pack
Type WELCOMEAPRIL in the "Discount code" field on the first step of the check-out
Save 20% on your cart*

*The discount is automatically applied on the price without taxes of the Eligible Products. The coupon is active until April 11, 11:59PM CET. Limit of 100 uses, one per customer. Eligible Products are the Nano X, Nano S and Backup Pack. The discount does not apply to shipping costs nor does it apply to past purchases. Tax and customs costs are due by the customer under applicable rules.

but we are not yet at a place where I am using crypto for daily purchases.
This is a good point. For all the time I have had my Nano S I have never needed to carry it with me to make a transaction somewhere on the go. For that I have Coinomi, it does the job just fine when it needs to. The bigger screen and wireless functionalities aren't particularly appealing to me. Regarding the improved storage space and support for 100 different apps, I wouldn't be able to name that many alts if I had to.

The Nano X has a few improvements, but I wouldn't call any of them essential improvements.  As long as the S is compatible with all your coins and has enough room for all the associated apps, that's really all you'll ever need.

Personally, I don't even see that extra room for apps an advantage. As installing/uninstalling apps is pretty fast and easy. I can do uninstall/install my whole life to save 150 usd lol

Hardware wallets are important for me due to their security, which is the same in Nano X and Nano S.

I am in the same boat regarding the Nano X. I don't have any interest in >99% of altcoins, so the extra storage space is irrelevant, and I very rarely take my hardware wallets out of the house or interact with them via mobile, so the Bluetooth is irrelevant. The bigger screen looks like a nice improvement over the Nano S, but I'm not about to spend ~$100 just for that.

Do you think its worth it if I purchase the bundle of NanoX and NanoS or just straight for NanoX? Really excited for this.
Just before you order, either post a new thread in this board or check on Ledger's subreddit for any discount codes, if they aren't running a promotion at the time. For example this guy asked a few hours ago, and got a bunch of codes within 20 minutes: https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/fxk0cq/any_discount_codes_available/. Some offer a percentage discount and some offer a flat discount, so figure out which one works out best for you. The codes in that link offer either 20% or $25 off, but they may well have been used by now.

I'm just amazed at how the battery life on the Nano X stays. I mean, it's over a month already + the quarantine where I didn't use the device up until now. I was surprised that it's up by 94% battery remaining.

Battery life is very good if you do not use the device, and I also notice that it stay almost on same % if I not use device for few days. But some users seem to be having problems with faulty battery, which I personally have not noticed so far. However, it should be noted that the Nano X can be used quite normally with a cable as well, and not only depends on its battery.

I like the concept of the Nano X, but I just don't think that in my situation, it warrants spending another ~US$140+ for "features" that I'm not sure are of any use  Undecided

I paid my Nano X about $90 at a discount of 35% which was available for last Black Friday (30% + 5% for on last day of promotion). I didn't buy it just because it has a Bluetooth or larger screen, or because it supports up to 100 apps installed at a time, but because I want to keep up with new technologies, and Bluetooth and a larger screen can sometimes be quite useful. Nano S is enough for the average user, I don't think there is any doubt about that. For those who want something new, and have no problem to pay around $100 (Ledger always has discounts), it's a logical step to invest in a new model.

Do you think its worth it if I purchase the bundle of NanoX and NanoS or just straight for NanoX? Really excited for this.  Grin

It's not a bad idea to have a spare hardware wallet, so if it's not a problem to pay a little more for both models, this might not be a bad idea. Ledger also has discounts all the time, and you can usually pay at least 20% off the price. I personally only order directly from Ledger, and this is not a problem since I live in the EU, but if there is an authorized Ledger retailer in your country, you may be able to save at least some costs (customs fees).

I wrote something about the Nano X when I bought it, you might find it helpful : Ledger Nano X - Review of the package.

I am really excited with to purchase, this NanoX ledger device. I already studied every instruction to do and create when it arrives. Based on most, feedback they say its a good deal.

By the way OP, since we are on the same country, mind asking how much was the VAT and custom tax duty added when your gonna shipped it? As Ive seen on the site its cost around 6,783php for Nano X, and 8,400php for both NanoX and NanoS bundle, since you have one, I would like to know how much will it cost.

Hope shipping wouldnt be so hard since pandemic virus is ongoing.

I also have the Trezor ONE and I believe the same applies to the "ONE vs T" situation.

For the most part yes, but the T does have one distinct security advantage.  The touch screen allows you to enter your passphrase on the device, which is really only an issue if you've been infected with keyboard logging malware.

Do you think it is worth the expense for an existing Nano S owner if you only have 1 or 2 coins (ie. not a big altcoin hodler/trader)? Is the "value add" really there for the extra expense in that situation? Huh

I second this.  I just purchased a Nano X for myself and 2 Nano S for other family members.  The features of the X are nice, but looking back I probably should have gotten the Nano S for myself too.  I prefer not to deal with the battery but I agree that the battery seems pretty good.  Also the ability to pay and receive in the app is nice for the Nano X, but we are not yet at a place where I am using crypto for daily purchases.  Although I also like the USB type C charger.

But if you have a Nano S and it works for you, I see no need to upgrade to the Nano X.

I agree that's a nice piece of kit.  I'll be honest; I prefer, and more commonly use the competition's hardware wallet, but I own both the Nano S and the Nano X.  The upgrades the X offers are pretty darn handy.  Even just the simple things like being able to see the whole address on the display when confirming a spending transaction is a convenient improvement.  The bigger display is easier on my aging eyes as well.

Considering how long a hardware wallet should last an individual, I think the difference in price is negligible considering the X's improvements and added convenience.
