Like what most have stated, ignorance of the law excuses no one. If the forum moderator were to accept your alibi, that would be prejudicial to all previous users who got banned due to the same offence since retroactivity would apply here.

Since you copy-pasted a document, modified, and posted here in the forum without giving credit, you suffer the consequence of getting permanently banned. Just move on and learn from your mistake OP.

Rules are Rules and the Source Link is missing there !
I don't think this kind of post is called plagiarism. I wrote about plagiarism, and methods to avoid plagiarism there:
[TIPS] to avoid plagiarism
There are some acceptable methods, including leaving original information inside quote block, even you don't remember exactly where is a source of it.
Quote
leaving original contents or typing what you remember that someone else wrote somewhere else

"Yobit pump alert software" Link in my signature!
Clearly , the punishment does NOT fit the crime. Greg simply copied and pasted his own work once. The system picked it up, and banned him. Greg has been a great contributor over the years, and deserves his account reinstated. This was a simple mistake.

theymos already set a rule for temp. Ban which I think is just since he gives any rank a chance to prove themselves to be an asset around the forum not just to consider someone base on their ranks or how long they have been around.

If OP thinks he only deserve a temporary ban he has a chance to prove he's a great contributor around the forum.

Well that is good news...then let him present his case and hear what Theymos says about it.

I think if you can prove to theymos you love the idea of crypto and will try your best to push this entire movement forward then he will spare your account or give you one more chance. Although don't make a long post because they are not glady received. Then again he is busy and has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders. So not much spare time.

I would advise Greg..... to not try to excuse the actions (some were not plagiarism but some look like they may be financially motivated) but just say i am sorry, it was a mistake, i will gladly forget having sigs, I will become a great member here and redeem myself. Then never do it again.

You're great. Drain a man who has been on bitcointalk for over 5 years because he has pasted a post.

Date Registered:   February 09, 2014  !!

Once again, my intention was not to assign someone else's text. I thought it was worth re-publishing in another thread and I did it.

Gentlemen ... it's best to burn me on the pile right away.

To support many projects, I have released a few BTCs without wanting in return, and that does not count as well?

I can list many accounts of the legendary, people I work with and help with, and that also counts?

Sick!

All legends should just be given the opportunity to lose their sigs for a few years rather than perm ban.

If you have been here 5 years like the OP this is not an late 2017er turned up for a quick bot spam session.

This person is observably part of lots of alt communities or has been.

All legends that are not extreme financially motivated shit posters and have not been part of any communities or contributed fuck all... should just be auto sig banned for couple of years with a note of final and last warning. Next time perm ban.

Plain and simple plagiarism. What even is "CTTO"?
Acronym for 'Credits to the Owner' where I think an awful way to credit the author/owner since it does not state or link you to the actual creator of the article.
Yeah... that's not going to work. He surely deserves a ban.

Hi everyone! I know this is kinda off-topic but I believe it's somewhat similar as to what Lafu pointed out, the only difference is that he uses a term 'CTTO' instead of the actual author/link.

I reported this to 'Report plagiarism (copy/pasting) here' but not given enough attention whether it falls under plagiarism or not.

be constructive or S.T.F.U

There is no point in discussing the obvious, whatever you posted there is not plagiarism by any means,  and i am willing to bet the house that nobody would have banned him for that.

however what suchmoon mentioned above is plagiarism at it's finest and that's probably why he got banned.

I did not intend to impersonate the texts of others, just paste a message that I considered important.
Indeed, I could give the source, my mistake.

For many people, the problem is also English - I learned Russian at school - and that is why we are trying to write something in a short way.

Irrelevant.

You copied another user's message, even modified formatting so you can't claim you didn't know what you were doing. Every shitposter can claim their posts are "important" in some way, if only for bumping a shitcoin thread.

The only route to appeal is for you to show how you benefit the forum. There is no doubt that you plagiarized so you can drop the excuses.

Just simple

If you copy an text from an other website and post it here without the source link it is copy and paste or ?

Nobody knows if this post is your written work or not !

If copy an text from a other website and just paste it in the Forum i advise to always post the source link too in your post !

Just to be sure !
He was clearly saying what he was posting is from the business. He used the name of the business and a colon.

And what about that one ?

Coinexchange:

"This currency has been flagged for delisting. It appears to be abandoned and has done minimal/no trade in the last 6 months. If you want us to continue to list this coin, you need to trade it! If there is no trade over the next 30 days, we will begin the delisting. If you are the developer of this coin or wish to conduct a takeover, please contact us. Happy trading!"

I wouldn't call that plagiarism when he clearly put everything in quotes and made it clear that this was taken from Coinexchange. Let's not be extremists here. There is a big difference between pretending to be the author of the text and clearly citing an update and where it was taken from.

Strongly agree.

Looks like a long term member that was also involved with lots of alts over the years. I would let him back with a sig ban and final chance.

Real members will have no problem contributing with a sig ban. Sigs are really just for promoting projects you believe in or supporting members you think are cool and their projects.

I couldn't find a rule where it stats that posting the source LINK is obligatory.

Quote
33. This includes both copying parts or the entirety of other users' posts or threads and copying content from external sources (e.g. other websites) and passing it as your own.

Nowhere in his post he passed the text as his own. But well, that's just my opinion.

Anyway, as you can see above ^, the user is not innocent at all. I still would like a definitive answer about the specific Coinexchange "plagiarism" you linked above and if that's really considered plagiarism by the mods. I personally wouldn't.
