Oh the good ol' God Of gamblers. I have heard of it before and I think I also saw some clips of it but I haven't finished the whole movie because we don't have our own VCD that time. It was our neighbor who has a good liking about this movie because she was also a gambler. I always saw her playing card games along with our other neighbors. When I was a kid, I also heard about Casino Royale. I think it was played by James Bond.

Yes, this is a old Hong Kong movies in the 90's if I'm not mistaken. But it was really a good movie specially during that time I was just starting to play and gamble early in the streets. The movie also has a lot of sequels, and it started a lot genre of movies depicting gambling.

Is this the movie you're talking about? God of Gamblers (1989) - IMDb
Check out the original trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRH6m3IBXn0.

I find it hard to believe anyone could label this as a good movie, even by 90s standards! Grin Perhaps it's just the trailer that comes across as too goofy to me. I've never actually watched the entire movie.

I'm not really sure if someone mentions "Rounders" as well, another great movie about high stakes pokers, starring a young but promising actor, - Matt Damon and the great John Malkovich (1998).

I agree. It's a good movie featuring Matt Damon and Edward Norton.

I don't know much about gambling movies. But before, there were newer gambling movies, I've seen the God of the Gambler movie, but I forgot which one because there are several movies about the God of the Gambler. I only know that there is Chow Yun Fat, the main star of that film.

In the meantime, I did a bit of a search on gambling movies and found several lists of sites with movies about gambling. I have never watched many of these films, but maybe my friends here have seen those films.

This one seems related to gambling as well. Anyway, the links you provide there can help someone who wants to check out a good gambling film apart from God Of Gamblers and Casino Royale, so there is no need for you to apologize.

No one will forget the scene of Casino Royale, all whales on one table and putting huge bet on it.

Uncut Gems with Adam Sandler, not only is it a cinematic marvel to me cause you get to see Adam Sandler when he's acting on serious roles, but at the same time the story is compelling, revolving around the concept of high-stake wagers and high-roll gamblers. Anyone who's watched it would vouch for how good it is and it's not that "profound" that the concept would fly over the heads of people who aren't watching movies to critique it, which is one of the things that I love the most about this movie. Another would be the movie 21, which is about the MIT Blackjack team who systematically duped the Las Vegas Casino business with their mathematical advantage, and while some of the details are inflated from how they really happened in real life, it's still something that you'd appreciate watching.

21 (2008) is one of the best cheatin casino movies I saw. Not really something that would happen in real life but it's hilarious though. One talented student who will spend his time learning to cheat casino instead of getting a degree seems sci-fi but at least it's an enjoyable movie.

There are movies that are not really concentrated on gambling but there are certain scenes where too relatable when you are into betting.

An animated movie called "Shark Tale" by Will Smith was one that I watched with my kid sticks in my mind because a character loans money to bet on a sea horse race and lost it. So the loan shark paid a visit to collect his debt but he doesn't have any money. Given a chance to pay in a limited time, this character found his savior when a girl who has a crush on him gave a sort of jewelry to pawn in order to pay his debt but instead, he bet the 5Grand to horse race again believing the tip he overheard the game is rigged.  Grin

I'm not sure if Fivestar4everMVP meant for this thread to focus solely on feature films, or if documentaries are also welcome here. Anyway, a while back, I came across a great documentary that I think would be beneficial for anyone interested in sports betting.

The movie is called "Life on the Line", released in 2013, and it provides an in-depth look into the lives of the world's top professional sports bettors in Las Vegas during the most significant betting event of the year. I highly recommend it!

You can watch the entire documentary here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=un_xwVRiSnw

Recently, I remembered a movie scene which involved a poker game. It is from the movie In time.
Basically, the protagonist puts all his life time at stake in a poker game against a very egocentric billionaire and for pure chance he managed to defeat him, just in time before passing away from running out of time in the poker table.

It is a very interesting movie, which makes me think of the importance of time and how society can be very unfair sometimes.

Here is the scene if any one of you feel curious enough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DqqSsFWcHI

There was a movie with Mel Gibson (back when he was still a good actor) about a poker tournament on a riverboat. The plot of the film was in the style of an American western, and if my memory serves me correctly, I believe Jodie Foster played a supporting role and there was another older dude who turned out to be the father of Gibson's character. Does anyone know the name of that movie? I remember finding it quite amusing, but then again, at that time, I enjoyed all Mel Gibson movies.  Cheesy

I think the movie that you are talking about, the name of the movie is Maverick. It was released in 1994. I have seen some parts of the movie on youtube. I just remembered the name of the movie based on your description. I am still not exactly sure though. But I am pretty confident that this is the movie. And yes, in Maverick, Jodie Foster played a supporting role. I am not a big fan of movies, to be honest.

In my life, I have only seen a few marvel movies, DC movies where Ben Affleck and/or Christian Bale was the Batman, and some very popular movies, like Interstellar, Inception, blood diamond. I did see the whole series of John Wick, terminator, Rocky, die hard and Mission impossible. I have seen a few older movies like Shawshank redemption, American Psycho. some Christopher Nolan movies as well. So I have not seen too many movies outside the most popular ones to be honest.
I did see that movie when it was released I remember that I was little, I was barely 10 years old and I really liked that movie, it's very good. Maverick in that movie was a player who always won and he was always looking for a card, that is, the card he imagined a particular card and he tried to draw it, there is a great scene in that one and it marks the movie very well, and he is a player who always wins because he learns a lot of the gestures that the other players do, this is something I really like, you can learn a lot from that movie, it is something that obviously shows.

When there are poker movies or Black Jack it's always good to see them because you learn a lot, at least in 21 to count, in poker a lot of techniques of course, even if it's only a movie but I know they recreate scenarios that have really happened.

The best thing one can get from movies is learning, that's what you have to get, now among the movies out there, I really like the one about Black Jack, which deals with a boy who is very good at math and is close to to that facility of earning money in Las Vegas to be able to pay for his medical degree, it is very good, I do not see things that are so fanciful, in fact the casinos in Las Vegas really show them as they are, when someone tries to get more money from them ( playing legal) they don't like it and some of the things are revealed or rather, they do so they don't return to their facilities.

In the approach they give is with black jack only with 1 deck, that is, 54 cards and they play with those so it is easier to count because the control is better, I don't know if they do things like that in those casinos or mix all the cards with other decks.

I have seen that there are many casino movie projects , also with crypto Technology such as bitcoin that I find very interesting , the ones about casinos that I like to see are those movies that I have seen , there are also more about Casinos and Games but They don't have much to do with the Strategies of the games, but rather they are focused on robbing casinos and leaving them bankrup , but that's something else.

I had never heard of that movie, so I had to look it up. Now I see that it is a Hong Kong movie and not a high-budget Hollywood production. Unfortunately, I'm not much of a fan, and the only movies I can remember watching are probably the older Jackie Chan movies. As for the actor Chow Yun-Fat, if I'm not mistaken, he also played the lead role in "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," right? That was a good movie!

I have seen a lot of gambling movies like the Casino Royale and Ocean Eleven mentioned already but the one that have stuck in my memory since I watched it is Owning Mahoney. This movies always reminds me of why working in finance and being addicted to gambling is the most harmful thing an individual could ever do to themselves. It would not only ruin their personal lives but also their career and relationships with others. Owning Mahoney, simply follows the story of a bank manager played by Philip Seymour Hoffman who is gambling addict. He keeps stealing the bank's money to feed his addiction. The most potent ingredient for gambling addiction as portrayed in the movie and in real life is being addicted to gambling and working in finance or handling money while your office has a close proximity to a land based casino. Even worse now, we have the casino which we carry everywhere in your pockets - online casino. You should see it.

The film Owning Mahoney sounds like a potent portrayal of the damaging effects of gambling addiction, particularly when coupled with a career in finance or money management. It serves as a sobering reminder of the potential impact that such actions may have on not just personal but also professional and interpersonal connections and lives. It is even more troubling because online casinos are so widely available. It's critical to understand the dangers of gambling and to ask for assistance if necessary.

Yeah, that's the one. Thanks! I might as well watch it again.

It sounds like you really like all superhero and action movies, but you've also managed to come across some truly awesome ones, like Shawshank Redemption and American Psycho. I prefer a bit more variety, so whenever I have the time, I enjoy watching a good movie regardless of the genre (except horror – not a fan of those).

But to stay on topic, there's another movie I'd like to mention that just came to mind. It's called "Casino," starring Robert De Niro. The movie is a fictional tale about gangsters in 70s Vegas but based on a true story. The performances by the actors are top-notch, and it was masterfully directed by the great Martin Scorsese. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend giving it a watch!

One of my best casino/gambling movies of all time is 'Oceans 11' by star actor George Clooney playing Danny Ocean. The story is about two good friends Danny Ocean (Clooney) and Rusty Ryan (Pitt), who plan a heist of $160 million from casino owner Terry Benedict (García), the lover of Ocean's ex-wife Tess (Roberts).

This same movie has Ocean 12, Ocean 13 and the all female cast, Ocean 8.
If you want to get to feel like a member of a casino or have a feeling of what a real casino looks like in real life, I would suggest seeing this movie. It is simply a classic.
I know my memory is a bit foggy but I think i have the one of the sequel which will be the oceans 13 and I know it stared George Clooney as one of the major character(Danny) and it was all about a heist on a particular casino. It's quite an interesting movie and I think on seeing this I would have to go back and refresh my memory abit. It's been even quite long I watch a movie although am very selective on my movie choice and for this year I think only one movie has called my attention which isn't a movie related to gambling or casino but it's actually my type of movies @nefarious

The first film of this series was Ocean’s 11. This came out in 2001. The second one was Ocean’s 12, which was released in 2004, and the final one, Ocean’s 13 was released in 2007. I don’t remember exactly about all three of these movies. Although not entirely clear on the specifics, I believe each film revolved around the art of casino theft. Personally, I find all three entries to be masterfully directed and thoroughly entertaining.

But the one that they did in 2018, I believe which was the female version of this series, I didn’t see that. Sandra Bullock starred in the movie. I haven’t seen that one so I cannot comment on if it is good or bad. But it did achieve the same box office numbers like the oceans 13 movie did. But the first one was the biggest in the box office.

Hey buds.

I am a lover of movies, not just all movies but the most interesting ones..
If you are a lover of movies yourself, you will agree with me that most times, title does not really tell if a movie will be interesting or not, in-fact, by going with title, you sometimes buy or download and watch a movie only to end up very disappointed and feeling like you were cheated..

But then, on the other hand, there are movies with very dull, uninteresting titles , but when you happen to watch the movie, you will stay glued to it till the very end due to how interesting that movie is..

And from my personal research, casinos and gambling related movies dont come with the best of titles, i mean they dont have that Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr kind of title where you feel "oh my gosh, this movie must be smoking hot, i must watch it" na na, casino/gambling related movies dont come with such titles, and maybe that is why are not always that popular because they dont really pick people's interest, but like ive said before, title of a movie most times dont tell if that movie will be interesting or not.

The best way to truly know movies that will be interesting is by special recommendations by those that have watched that movie, this is what i want us to specifically focus on doing on this thread, discussing only and strictly casino/gambling related movies, for those of us who aside gambling, loves watching movies on our spare time, we could get an idea of what to watch next from this thread...

I hope for this thread to become one of the mega threads centered only on casino/gambling related movies and its discussions only, so to keep the thread as clean as possible, and from possible hijack from spammers ...

The thread will be self moderated

Its a simple rule

Every movie suggestions
Discussions - like the movie scenes, characters, happenings, what so ever..
Must be related to the topic.

Anything outside the topic "i am sorry" will be deleted

=So if you've never watched a casino/gambling related movie before and you are interested in watching one or more, ask for recommendations, don't post shitty and off topic comments - deleted.
=For you that have watched some couple of casino/gambling related movies, feel free to recommend it, discuss it, analyze it anyhow you want,
Lets just have fun discussing something different from sports, gambling addiction and no addiction stuff, while keeping to the rule of this board.

I may sound old but for me it would be "Rounders." It's an absolute gem,  as Mike McDermott. He's a law student and a seriously skilled poker player who's trying his best to leave his underground gambling days behind. But, you know how it goes, fate has other plans when his old pal Worm (played by Edward Norton) pops back into the scene fresh out of prison and drags Mike back into the thrilling world of high-stakes poker.

Picture this: gripping poker games in smoky underground rooms, where fortunes are won and lost with each card that hits the table. The movie serves up an authentic portrayal of poker and the mind games that go on behind the scenes. And man, the performances in this flick are top-notch! Damon and Norton deliver knockout acts, but wait until you meet the eccentric and intimidating Russian poker player Teddy KGB, played by the brilliant John Malkovich, and the seasoned poker grinder Joey Knish, portrayed by the ever-charming John Turturro.

But hey, "Rounders" isn't just about gambling; it's got heart too! It delves into the complexities of friendships, loyalty, and redemption. You'll find yourself rooting for Mike and Worm, cheering them on as they take risks and navigate through this intense and unpredictable poker world.
