does education level matter in this forum?  I have seen many bachelors degree holders here yet not a single merit, posting quality does not mean they had a better education than you do. posting quality is most likely affected by interest, not by education attainment

College is a complete waste of time and money.  In the United States it's run as a business.  Students are going into debt for a worthless piece of paper.

The most intelligent people I know didn't attend college.  College just means you obey authority and are not able to carve out a path on your own.

In business you can often "carve out a path of your own". But times have changed and most well paid professions require a qualification.
Even when you are running a business some of the professional licenses require qualifications to obtain.

Apart from all the obvious choices like Computer Science, Commerce, Law, Sciences, Medicine etc.

There are some real interesting choices out there. I thought the Arts would offer the most unusual choices but the Sciences offers some unusual choices too:

Chambres de Métiers et de l’Artisanat offers a degree in Taxidermy.

Oaksterdam University offers a degree in cannabis cultivation.

Or you could do a degree in something like Puppetry, Gender studies, Surf Science, Turfgrass Science or Fermentation Science.

Wow! there is only one college student who voted in the poll, I wasn't expecting that. Well, this is not the official statistics after all but honestly what I really expected from the beginning is that college students will dominate. Hmm, this happened probably because they're not just hanging around here in the Meta more often that's why they were'nt able to participate. By the way, I'm also in college too Smiley.

Really? I don't think so (maybe just in your city/town). Schools are made intended for nourishing our minds, improving us as a person and not to cause us harm in any kind of manner like what you've said. But if there are students who still in debt then maybe it's not the fault of the institution any more but themselves — they really don't have a plan to study and only do a lot of immature things that's why they're repeating the shit over and over again.
College just means you obey authority and are not able to carve out a path on your own.
Okay, I respect your opinion. But for me, college is the last preparation for becoming a strong individual before we deal to the challenges of the outside world.

Well, I can state that I hold a professional degree, as well as a number of further qualifications stemming from that, but they are completely irrelevant to this forum. None of my qualifications are in anything remotely to do with IT, computer science, economics, etc. There are undoubtedly teenagers out there with far less formal education than me but with a far better understanding of blockchain technology than me.

Well, I think the Bachlor's? degree (4-year degree) will be the most. I got the same feeling as I usually get when I met people, academic education is nothing actually. It is proved once again, lol.

I have a different opinion. Sure, there are exceptions, but doesn't every rule have them?
In general, I've talked to people with completely different levels of education and the difference is striking. Not so much between people with bachelor's and above, but if you talk to someone with 8 classes you'll just know it without having to ask.
Character qualities always differ so an educated person can be a stuck up fool, but people with higher education tend to be more open. They know more about the world, have wider horizons. Uneducated people can be experts in their field but outside of that they don't have much to say.

Looks like no one voted for No formal education yet. So, I chose that one. Grin
So, you don't have any formal education?

Not all of here are masters in speaking and making a good post. But they are here to learn, even myself can't speak fluent but try to engaged as well as I want more information and learn as what reasons we are here. It doesn't mean your in Bachelors Degree or above you are a good in this forum, some here are collage or lower degree that they want to learn in there way, so I won't judge people by their status here but rather on how they are responding a good comment to make everyone respect.

Considering the quality of the forum, I think the result is not perfect. Most of those should be from K- 8.
Anyway, I was expecting an article here which have expressed the current situation of the forum, but it was not. Anyway, it would be nice if you used the word Poll like mentioned in Topic title style guide.

These titles are good:
- "Poll: What is your gender?"
At least, it would not be confusing.

Uhh, considering the quality of posts on this forum, I wouldn't be surprised if most people were K-8.

I was thinking that they were closer to K-9. Smiley

I think language barriers, youngsters trying to make a quick buck, and those acting ignorant to suit their agendas are to blame for this perception.
Yeah, I'm sure those things are a part of it, especially the language barrier issue.  People who can't speak your language can sometimes give off the impression that they're stupid, and that often isn't the case.  However, I don't doubt for a second that a lot of the folks from the poorer countries especially have little education.

On the other hand, I've seem some extremely intelligent people writing some brilliant things here--people who really seem to understand crypto and technology, both of which tend to sail right over my head.  Those smarty-pants people tend to be the older members, but I've seen newer members showing evidence of brilliance as well.  Overall the forum has a pretty good mix of education levels, even though it can be jarring at times to read.

Edit:
I was thinking that they were closer to K-9. Smiley
Lol, now that's pretty harsh.

LOL, no doubt.  That's been my impression right from my start here.

Now the voting results show that every second or third participant has a master's or doctoral degree Smiley
So many educated people will not find in one place.

Rofl. The vote fraud rate is pretty high. Maybe I should have made it a requirement to take a picture of your degree with a piece of paper with your username over it xD

I figured I'd target education, because the average user on this forum seems woefully under-educated.

I think language barriers, youngsters trying to make a quick buck, and those acting ignorant to suit their agendas are to blame for this perception.

I think there are plenty of professional trolls on this forum. I think there are also under-educated people participating in signature bounties and such. So, yeah, agreed.

This topic might be more appropriate in Off-Topic or something, even though it does kinda-sorta have to do with bitcointalk.  Isn't this the kind of thing they talk about over there?  What's your favorite color and the like?

I wish I'd studied other things in college (like computer science) and wish I'd completed the other degree I was working on until late last decade, but other than that I'm satisfied with my education.  Cost me a lot of money, but it was fun and pretty useful overall.  I'm done with school now, however.  Studying science was fascinating but stressful when you're trying to maintain good grades--and there is still plenty to keep up with in my field, so it isn't as though I've stopped learning.

Most communities have general surveys, e.g.:
https://insights.stackoverflow.com/survey/2018

I figured I'd target education, because the average user on this forum seems woefully under-educated.

So much cool shit in other fields. Sometimes I wish I didn't take the "Network Technology" / "Infosec" path and took the computer science path instead.

Do you like to determine the average temperature of patients in the hospital?
You probably are very bored and have nothing to do.
Maybe even ask about wages or who has what kind of car.

Uhh, considering the quality of posts on this forum, I wouldn't be surprised if most people were K-8.

Considering the majority of the users are not from the USA and have substantially different qualification systems. Perhaps you need to research it a bit better:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academic_degree

If you look at that link, most nations have similar university schemes. Sure, the standard education path varies.

Technically, we could highlight all the differences between quality of education; ie highschool in Ohio isn't exactly the same level of education as highschool in New York.  They're similar, but not perfectly accurate.

If someone has an educational level not listed in the poll, they could easily post it ._.
