In the early days, Preev.com was THE website for the Bitcoin' price for a single reason. It was one of the first and only to do it, not much any other. Someone mentioned Google's alternative. This one came a long time after (It hasn't been that long since google has been giving the real-time price)

I never actually understood the BTC rates on preev
BTC rates on Preev aren't taken from thin air. They display rates taken from Bitfinex, Bitstamp, Kraken and LocalBitclins. I don't know why Preev become a standard when checking BTC prices, but probably it's mainly because it was simpliest and most convenient place to check it when there wasn't so many options as we have today.By default, it uses the medium rates between Bitstamp and Kraken, which I believe makes sense to price BTC trades. People could just use the exchange which the biggest/lowest price (based on if they are selling or buying) to get the best rate (for them). This way it's good for both sides.
There is also a note about this in the bottom of the page:

Why has preev sort of had become a standard while choosing the BTC rates? I mean one can simply use the rates you get on google search and comply with the same?

Maybe it's your cookies I've asked some of my friends on social media 8 of them and they all told me they are using it and it's rarely goes down, in fact, I have been using this for several days now
Apparently I can't access from my internet home unless I use an VPN. I'm not sure why this is happening. And it's not a problem with my computer, since neither my phone is able to access it with the WiFi. Some "is it down" websites also appear to show the website as down while others are just fine. The traffic rank itself isn't that good, but what I'm more surprised about is the time spent per user on the site;

That to me indicates the demand for a site that allows you to convert a ton of shitcoins where preev is stuck just supporting a few. In the stats it's also visible that preev is losing popularity, which should ring some alarm bells to start listing shitcoins too, because the demand is there. If preev isn't following the demand, people will move away.

Does it only have a ALT <> USD converter? Or you only use it for normal price checking? I can't seem to find a tool that works like preev.comA few other websites I just remember about that also have a cryptocurrency converter:

Not checking Preev rates for I think almost a year now also because of that few supported coins.
As an alternative and saw the improvement of this site as it progress, I refer to Coingecko for coin pricing now. It looks like a modified version of how Coinmarketcap viewed a coin but with a USD converter.
Honestly, probably I have never used Preev for other currencies than Bitcoin. When I need to convert other cryptocurrencies, I simply enter something like "Monero to EUR" or similar on Google and go to first website shown in search results.
That's how I end up in Coingecko back then until now.

I tried to look for Preev alternatives for altcoins, but failed to find. From what I saw, I haven't found website which would be convenient as Preev, with basic design, not many ads and other uneccessary stuff.
