I think the best way is to create your own website and sell goods or services or promote some ads on it.

Before you start searching for online job, you should analyze your skills and knowledge. After that, you should see if you have enough knowledge to do some online work and to beat your competition which is huge on websites like Odesk, Freelancer, Elance etc. If you don't have required knowledge, I recommend you to learn and master your skills before you bid for some online work. This is primarily recommended for programming jobs because there are many professional programmers with many completed tasks. But, if you are some kind of professional, then finding some kind of online work isn't that hard. PTC sites can be attractive, but they are unstable and unpredictable. However, good luck to you!

Can you be more specific in your question?
What kind of work you seek?
Do you have some skills like programming, webdesign etc.?
Odesk, Elance, Freelancer have very good offer of small online tasks.
Or you want to do concrete administrative work like lionbridge?
Or simple PTC programs like Paidvers, Neobux, Clixsense?
