I would just like to contribute that, what with various references to OpenStreetMap.org in this thread, that the developers behind OpenStreetMap.org themselves accept Bitcoin donations, amongst other methods (http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Donate)

I searched the forum and this was the only thread with significant mention of their site, so I thought it may benefit their efforts to highlight their accepting of BTC donations, although they are not strictly speaking UK based, despite being hosted in the UK. They have, as you might expect, an open standards license pertaining to their map data. There is no information that I could find as to whether their code is open source, but it's a valuable resource regardless, and has been to me for some time now (my go-to for map data, in fact).

I shall be supporting them regularly upon this discovery.

Edit: it has already been noticed, albeit only a week or two ago (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/openstreetmap-donations-in-btc-276547)

   • King William IV Pub – King William IV Pub, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales.
Here is the map: http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/node/2405236828

Ciao!

Thanks for this; going to add more points to OpenStreetMap and then to here when I have some free time.

Has anyone bought anything at the King William IV Pub yet with BTC?

I have a few pubs in the works so hope to add them soon.

Design Services East London.

Added

I've never used it but http://www.taxizen.co.uk/ is a Taxi service in Herefordshire with 10% off if you pay in bitcoin.

Spoke to Dan at Daniel Hart's taxi service and I've added him to the list.

IT consultants based in Stoke. Their services include retrieving bitcoins from crashed hard drives and tracking down bitcoin thefts!

Thanks for this; I checked out their site and realised the were already on the list.

Spoke with them on the phone. Seem an interesting lot. Have also sent them some stickers.

I find it frustrating that I cannot spend my BTC in more places

No_2 - This is an excellent thread! It really goes to show the global appeal of Bitcoin.

And I very much agree that finding Bitcoin accepting merchants is vital to broadening Bitcoin adoption. Because of this, I have involved myself with The Bit Pages project: http://TheBitPages.com.

Our Announcement: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.2918187

We launched just last week, and are regularly adding Bitcoin merchants and users. I hope everyone here will take a minute to establish their own page!

As we are still in early development, we are eager to hear everyone's feedback. And since it seems that we have similar goals, please let us know if you are interested in working together in any capacity.

Our twitter will also feature Bitcoin merchants: @thebitpages

im sorry to say that i got my hopes up that there would be a well designed place to look up bitcoin merchants and find a HUGE list of them. but i have been let down again.

WHY OH WHY do you need to login just to find merchants??

if there was a professionally laid out website that listed businesses like a yellow pages, that would be great. i cant see why general public need a login account just to view businesses..
give me 3 good reasons VIEWERS/General public need to provide login details just to find something?

think of it this way would google be as popular search engine if it required a google account just to use its search engine

Anybody mentioned https://bitpay.com/ yet?

Unless I'm missing something their website has them listed in Atlanta, USA. If they have a UK arm I'd be happy to add them.

I am going to talk to somebody today about making a "World Bitcoin Merchant Directory" website.

The idea would be that merchants email their details and then add them to the directory.

Listings would be come under headings. eg.  Country, County/State, City, Town/Suburb and then grouped with the type of business.

http://www.cjs-cdkeys.com/ allow you to buy games and movies - they seem to be UK based.
(I have no connection with them - just noticed the pound sign)

Good news; I've spoken to Jon at Carpe Diem Accounting in Jersey and convinced him to start taking Bitcoin for his organisation.

Thanks for this list, i keep checking on it
(the URL in the above link is wrong, the site needs the www. (as the site is not found without it))

Thanks
Ford
