Who was the actual author?
Not sure if you mean the author of the Wikipedia page or Economist article, if you mean the Wikipedia article, I'm the original author, but others have also put in some edits too, you can see the full history here:

I would appreciate that no one touches it because current information is obsolete and references are invalid.

Please do not touch this until psybits gets his content ready.

I've moved it back to mainspace as I think (with the new sources) it's now notable enough.

Great start - I will have it up to 1000 words by Monday. It's coming!

Can we PLEASE get a Wikipedia editor to get this up?

It is the second most valuable cryptocurrency by thousands of a percent!!!  There is a PPC article but no LTC at all.  LTC market capitalization is in the tens of millions of dollars!!

The haters of Litecoin who fear it is taking value from BTC due to the LTC immunity to ASICs are abusing Wikipedia.  There is room for more than one cryptocurrency, and Litecoin can coexist peacefully.  Please put away your fear and STOP abusing Wiki to keep LTC from where it belongs - with its own entry.  It is rare to see Wikipedia cencsored this badly for this long.

We need an established editor to make the article - it won't let me because I don't have a months long history on Wikipedia editing previously.

Major news articles just today where Litecoin may bot be the ONLY focus but it is a major part of the discussion:

Live and enjoy experiments

If there are thousands and thousands people around the world mining, exchanging, and speculating a digital product on daily basis, I am sure a lot of people are eager to find out what it is.

Yet Wikipedia doesn't have an entry for it, it won't  make them look good.

I have started the fundraiser and the work has begun.  Please contribute to cover costs.  Once the initial work is done I am sure there will be a lot of community feedback. Following this, I will look for people to do translations in different languages.

The scrypt articel already mentions Litecoin: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrypt
That is a first step.

The german wikipedia doesn't give a number. But a presentation on conferences is a criteria to avoid deletion.
I am not sure if the Bitcoin 2013 counts (coblee is a speaker).

Also the Bitcoin page is locked to anyone not an established moderator.

LTC meets the standards of -

The difference in scrypt vs. a pure SHA format run by a few ASIC elites is enough of a difference at this point for Litecoin to get its own article.

I have seen plenty of unique articles on Wikipedia for things with much smaller differences.

Litecoin stepped out on its own during the past month and should have a Wikipedia page.  There is abundant mainstream media mention of it.

What is distinctive is they ONLY mention - Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Ripple.  No other ALTS/services are mentioned by name in these articles.

Litecoin should have a section under cryptocurrencies, it should also have a page of its own.

I would suggest gathering possibly 10-15 mainstream/global/media references - and I do not think they can take it down - if they do they would lose an appeal when something is distinctly mentioned on its own merits so much.

This needs to get done.

How is it we do not have a Litecoin dedicated page on Wikipedia with a BIG FAT COIN up there.

This is an important step towards wide LTC adoption.  It is time to come out from under the shadow of big brother BTC.

I will help with some links -

The Economist Magazine - http://www.economist.com/news/finance-and-economics/21576149-even-if-it-crashes-bitcoin-may-make-dent-financial-world-mining-digital (comments on Litecoin as an alternative and partial clone - by NAME)

Computer World - http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9238328/Bitcoin_rival_Ripple_looks_to_make_waves (talk about Litecoin and Ripple as Bitcoin RIVALS)

Ars Technica - http://arstechnica.com/security/2013/04/hide-your-kids-hide-your-btc-bitcoin-stealing-malware-emerges/ (comment on MtGox plans to add Litecoin trading)

Daily Recknoning Australia - http://www.dailyreckoning.com.au/bitcoin-and-the-monetary-revolution-in-crypto-currencies/2013/04/12/ (Bitcoin is one of many Cryptos - LTC named again)

Someone here must be established as an Wikipedia editor.

There are enough links already in this thread to make it happen.

Lets do this - en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?search=litecoin - should NOT BE BLANK.

Again create a subsection on the Bitcoin page, citing those articles and it will be accepted to stay, even when altcoin haters try to delete it.
