Use wood instead of aluminum. The wood won't go on fire, wood ignites at like 250C and at that temp even your aluminum frame would get issues.

Aluminum is bad because since it conducts electricity it might cause a huge short if some cable becomes loose.

And here I am using a milk crate i got from the supermarket under the guise that my kid needed it for a science project...
It works absolutely great! Looks like some kind of homebrew abomination but it gets the job done.

One thing I hated about mining was babysitting the rig. Glad I'm over it but I'm always tempted to dust off the old equipment.

make your own, free or very cheap vs 150$+. it's ultra easy, and fast.

but it's totally insane to use wood for it..

i would not use wood for it you can make one in alluminium for $20 with allt he connectorsa nd tube, don't need to risk to catch fire with wood, alluminium is much safer, just use plastic motherboard standoffs

Do you know where to get aluminum t-slots? I found a place online that sells kits, but it's like $180 a kit might as well buy one prebuilt (kit probably makes more than 1 rig but don't know)

These are not cheap, but they are the best on the market imo. We have two of them and they are a joy to work with.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/222427931353?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

If you have the time, physical ability, and mechanical ingenuity for it I would build something with aluminum tubing, plastic fittings at the corners and holes drilled where needed for screws. You could also make something work with simple metal shelving, but how that would need to be altered would vary from user to user.

We have a few of these, but the price recently went up from $119 to $174....

I have not tried these, but they look good and are from a reputable place.

I have that one on my wish list on Ebay in the US and plan to buy it soon .....it looks awesome and looks worth the 149 it sells for in the US or A version of the one you linked sold in the US .

They are very well crafted. I'd say they are easily Industrial quality. He is sold out on eBay now, but I'm hoping he has more being made this summer.

i'm  using those aswell. Great racks.

I like using these: http://www.homedepot.com/p/3-Shelf-30-in-H-x-24-in-W-x-14-in-D-Wire-Unit-in-Chrome-EH-WSTHDUS-005/204466879

This is the final product (after a bunch of zip ties / fan and components): https://imgur.com/gallery/OUyaa

That looks nice and clean.

I used to use a milk crate mining rack. Was always antsy about that shit melting and burning down the house....

My next mining Rig i am using that shelf to built it.

I been building wooden rigs so far now it would be interesting to try that rig shelf etc.

Now that looks like something affordable that would work. Do you have more pictures on how the GPUs are mounted?

Here's a few more pictures from different angles. There are grooves the fit in that space the gpus perfectly to be zip tied and stay in place. There's also plastic spacers that separate the shelves that I use as spacers below the motherboard.

I just did a build of the BBT mining case below out of two 8ft pieces of 1/8" x 3/4" angled aluminum, one 8ft 1" x 2" piece of pine and #8 1/2" self-tapping screws for about $50 in parts at Lowes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5xNrlxsCVs

The only tools needed were a drill with a 3/32" hex titanium drill bit to drill pilot holes and a #2 phillips screwdriver bit. A hacksaw with a 32 tooth blade and a plastic miter box to cut the aluminum and wood. It took about 4-5 hours since it was my first time building one. The case is very sturdy and can support up to 7 GPU's. You could also use 1/16" angled aluminum pieces if you want to save money.

What is an affordable rack to house my mining components? Most I see are rather expensive and could be built for much less.

The cheapest will always be DIY. I made mine out of wood so they cost next to nothing.

Though I just ordered a couple of these (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.19063053) closed cases to see if they're worth it and how cooler it is - if at all - due to extra airflow compared to big open frames.

@bathrobehero have you received them yet? I am also looking for comparison between few open frame design rigs and a closed one, so would be grateful if you share some results. Cheers

Not yet, it'll take a few weeks to get them but I'll share my findings in their thread if I don't forget it.

cryptomined.com  seems cool if it's the same guy on YouTube, he does a lot of You tube stuff on mining and has his own store the only reason, i don't buy off him shipping can be as much or more for what I'm buying, not worth it to  me .
